View Full Version : Family tree corruption

I've read about corrupting the family tree when you make two sims marry or have a baby when they are family.
Some of my Sims are marrying their cousins, but only after I sever or suspend their family ties with the inSimenator. Will that still corrupt the family tree? Is it even possible to corrupt the family tree by marrying cousins? They aren't shown in eachother's family trees. Does it make sense if you corrupt the family tree? It's only one part of the game.
Maybe the last one is a dumb question, but since I'm dumb about corrupting a family tree I just ask it :P
If it is a big problem, my current hood is in trouble. And my gameplay. I don't matter if they're cousins, they are not siblings or uncles/aunts or eachothers children/parents/grandparents/grandchildren. I like small hoods and marrying cousins makes don't need for creating new CAS-Sims.

I have no idea , but just make sure to name some sim Jerry Lee Lewis http://oldies.about.com/od/rockabill1/f/jerryleemyra.htm , it's the right thing to do. Good luck, cuz!

I occassionaly let second cousins marry. That doesn't seem to mess anything up.

Yes, you're right about where these changes come from. The base game does not let first cousins marry (I think it does allow second, because it doesn't recognize who second cousins are). The insim hack is making the changes to family tree. This doesn't sound like the impending doom of a neighborhood, just sims forgetting the family tree. Do you have any missing memories, or missing sims?

I've had step-brothers and sisters have children together. (Not related by blood ... adopted ones only ... think of one of those dozens of mangas that have that scenario ... but the game still has the tokens for them, of course.) Did that for years, though I don't do it as much now (that manga theme kind of wears thin after a while).
I never saw any problems with the game, and actually forgot to sever the ties in many cases. (I used Insim to make the Sim pregnant.) Never saw any missing memories or anything like that. They always played perfectly normally. While I did have to reset a couple of neighborhoods over the years, the causes were due to other problems; particularly, deleting from the Sim Bin. The disappearing Sims never involved the step-brothers and sisters, strangely. You would think they would if they caused the corruption.
Sigh. Don't tell me THAT corrupts the game as well! (Bangs head against desk.) This reminds me why I like resetting neighborhoods routinely every three years now. Invariably, I do SOMETHING that messes with the game ... or the game does something that messes with me. :)
If this does, whether you get rid of the ties or not, I suppose that is one more thing to be added to the corruption list on the Sims Wiki.

After looking at some of the Strangetown family trees, I have decided that it's probably just cosmetic and mixing genetics of close family will just mean genetics are chosen from a smaller gene pool. I mean, if you think about it, the game will happily allow parents to marry their children if they're taken away by the social worker and grow up with another family.
As always though, I must add that there is a good chance I am wrong. :)

Yes, the social worker deletes all family ties.. I find that disturbing, but that's base program. It is therefore a blessing that true problems due to inbreeding don't exist. All we get is "my baby looks a lot my daddy"

I think the family tree weirdness is simply aesthetics: the game isn't programmed to understand that (for example) your child is also your cousin's/partner's child, and so only shows you and your child but not your cousin. I've played around with severing family ties in some very old 'hoods and nothing immediately corrupted -- like TortureThe Nannies said, I just ended up with sims who looked a lot like each other.

I purposely had a (CAS) brother and sister have a kid. I was feeling demented, so I let incest come into play, and...yeah. Of course, the social worker took him away later. The sister moved after her brother got jealous, because she revealed that she was dating someone that she wouldn't have a stigma with, so the brother killed himself in response.
The kid is actually kind of attractive. Ain't that sad?
