My game is freezing at random times

The game keeps freezing on me but in a strange way. The sims themselves will freeze but there PlumBobs will continue spinning. Im not sure the problem. Ive already tried deleting the Cache files. My sim did have twins with a town sim and when the family option came (to decide which sims would join the household) I only chose one of the twins. Could that be the problem? And if so how do I fix it? I do not have any expansion packs.

I have deleted the chache files and removed my custom content. It still is freezing.

Well, the good news is that it's not CC. There is a third step in that FAQ to try....
