One of my favorites is "Gridershade" from Fallout 3.
Some others if suggestions are needed...
- Dark Falls
- Grayditch
- Silent Falls
- Lost Falls
- Dawn's Crossing
- Devil's Crossing
- Silent Hollows
-Weeping Valley
- Widow's Crossing
- Hollowshire
Of course, they may already have chosen a name. :)

Yeah they might of, but since it's a COMmUNITY project the COMMUNITY should name it. Private creators could name their area personally though. I had the Idea of Bright Falls, because Prawler is making a Pierre (Brighton, used to go there all the time when I was little) and falls from (obviously) all the waterfalls, but that is just probably a ****** name (fill in as wanted). When I name my maps on Far Cry 2 I often go on Google translator or on my app on my iPod (I love making things (ESP. Towns), but I have a short attention spam) to find good names. I once just named a place 'river toll bridge' but in Swahili! Playa del Lago means Beach of the Lake (there's a playa del alto in Mexico I think, which I found out after) so maybe we should go for a foreign name so it's less obvious what it's called unless you know the language. I have never played fallout *gasp*, *horror* though.

Finding names with iPhone or Smartphone is really funny and sometimes the results are surprisingly good. I'm using the following method: Switch my german system language to english. Then use the microphone in the translation app to enter words in german. Smartphone tries to use english words. At least I translate the result into german.
Sounds confusing, right? Just try it!

Bright Falls... what a funny coincidence. Have you ever played Alan Wake? I loved that creepy little town called Bright Falls. ;)
Bright Falls (http://www.google.fi/search?q=alan+wake+bright+falls&hl=fi&client=firefox-a&hs=RxJ&rls=org.mozilla:fi:official&channel=np&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=UkLfT8_QMI_U4QTs94m6Cg&ved=0CHIQsAQ&biw=1920&bih=918)
It would be nice to have a name for the world, though, would make it more real somehow. I would like it to be an english name, though, but that's just how I feel about it. Maybe there should be suggestions and then a poll?

I never knew you were Finnish! You're english is perfect (better than mine and im from the UK lol). It is a coincidince though. Maybe it could be half-english half-spanish/french or something, theres quite a few places in the world with that combination. Another one Blackwater sounds quite nice to me.

Sorry Vampiresim, my post didnt post
If you are German then heres my only German Wilkommomen
I dont think it'd work for me, My Blackberry wouldnt work most likely, and even my iPod is rubbish, probably just stick to translating my own language (English - Highly overrated) into another language. Meddling with words in your own language (or others) is quite fun - Londren and Fronttriveira are names i just made up miving up London and Londres, and Riverfront and Riviera.
The Town should have a Name, otherwise its not really... A town. :(

Thank you. I've been using english since before first grade and love it. I wish I could speak it 24/7. :)
Blackwater does sound very nice and I like it, too. I think it could be a strong candidate.

I guess with their own language, people become more liberal and take shortcuts. What about fronttriviera or londren (more rubbish I know)
What was that post you got thanked for, I can't find it on your page?

I wonder of this could be attracted to general attention it could become official or other ideas could be put forward.
I hope all us as creators stay together after the project, because it is around 3 weeks now and we still jel well (get on well together) Simpocalypse CC maybe?

Blackwater is a cool name, but it's actually the name of a videogame (made by Zombie Studios). Ironic. :|
IMHO, I'd totally avoid using names already used in video games.
It would lend confusion or expectations of likeness to the actual namesake,
not to mention possible copyright infringement.

Really, I never know! Feel free to suggest names, because as I said earlier, a town without a name isn't really... A town.
Oh and BTW, Bluewater Village in TS2 OFB is named after a Southeast English Shopping Centre (or Mall)

PAV (Post-Apoc Valley)... formerly known as Yourtown
Dystant
(not a typo! The prefix "dys-" means something is abnormal or bad in some way) ;)
Hells Landing
Malido or Mal Landing
(the prefix "mal-" means bad or ill)
Endemi City or Endemi
(^ play on words: "endemic" means localized to a certain area/people.)
My fav but prob not possible...
Romero :lovestruc
(^ I was in the zombie Walk of the Dead @the Monroeville Mall!)

We were thinking that the town hadn't changed its name after the disaster happened. Maybe Sataniton or Los Pyros? Or Vulcan Falls. Plutonia. Hades County as well. Give me your opinions!

Los Pyros sounds awesome. I don't know why, but it does. But it's more for a big and destroyed city of city proportions.

Cool, Playingsafe had some good ideas too. Los Pyros literally means The (los) and something to do with fire (Pyros, as in Pyro in Pyromaniac) So 'The Fire's' or somming like that.

I'm not too keen about spanish style names, sorry. I think we need more options still because none of these really strikes me as being "the one". Hmm, this is getting hard now. :)

I would personally lean towards a name that makes it sound idyllic. Maybe just name it after the terrain? A great deal of horror stories are set in nice, innocuous sounding places, like Castle Rock (several Stephen King books/movies), Crystal Lake (the Halloween franchise), etc. I just don't see why anyone would want to live in a place with a sinister name, and obviously people (or sims) wanted to live here at one time or another. Or why anyone would ever want to live in a house with the number 666 (I'm house hunting, and that place has been on the market forever! What were they thinking?).
If sinister is the way everyone wants to go, might I recommend something like Slaughter? There is a town near where I'm from that used to be called Slaughter, in honor of some famous general from the area, and the local inn was called Slaughter House. The town's name didn't last long, as everyone hated it and it was embarrassing, and who wants to sleep in a slaughterhouse? The family's still around though, and Ms. Slaughter was a frequent substitute teacher of mine (she always told that story in her introduction).
There's also the middle road, with something like Paradise Falls (playing off the falls in the town, where it could sound nice, but also has some foreshadowing of doom if you read "falls" as a verb).

Agreed but the name could still have some character to it, the same way Silent Hill, Bright Falls and Sleepy Hollow clearly stand out with their names. I wouldn't use anything biblical, though, since they almost always remind of horror films, especially the kind I really don't want to watch because they're just too gross.

I don't think it should sound too dangerous or sinister, but then again it shouldn't sound too idyllic. I don't think the town would of changed its name after the apocalypse struck. Try not to name it after something in a movie or videogame. When my brother made his MySims agents game a few years ago, he named it shadowville. So yeah...
I can't think of any more at the moment, and it's the last day of the school year, nothing major though, I'm in year 8.
Edit: Pierditch was another idea I had

I agree with Varpunen. I think it should sound only /slightly/ creepy, but very creepy when applied to the settings, like Silent Hill.
With that in mind, here are some suggestions (off the top of my head):
Echo Mountain
Culling
Birdroost
Merrytown
Dusty Plains
Sour Tree
Blackrose
Weak Hill
Weaken
Shadowlight
Dancing
Redding
Thornhill
Richmond
Firetree
Foxes' Run
Yeah, I assume most of them aren't very good, but maybe it can inspire you!

Branwen (White crow)
Cinder Hills (Cinder -> ash)
Delora County (Delora derivied from delores -> sorrows)
Hemlock Hills
Perdita Falls (Perdita -> latin "lost")
Sanctuary
Shade Falls
Dark Falls / Shores
Widows Peak
Failing Falls

@yzisme, there's a Richmond right near I live, like within 20miles of my house!
I'd like Delor or Perdita to be the name, they sound nice and cool! B)
