Problems

1. Lags (I happen to have them from months ago, I don't know where it started, but the score of my graphics in my PC went down when I did a hard reset on my PC. I tried installing a few drivers, but I think it got worse. Now this is my second hard reset (installing a new OS, from Windows Vista to Windows 7) and I haven't installed any drivers this time. For the record, my brother have the same laptop as me and he has a better graphics score than me. They were both bought the same day, they are twins.

2. My sims disappear. When I'm on a game with a family in Bridgeport, if my Sim is upstairs and I go downstairs to the fridge, the Sim disappears. The icon is still there, but if I click on the Sim the screen moves to where he supposely is, but there is no Sim there. This is solved by copying the family in edit city and pasting it again to the house. I've tried several houses, they all have the same problem (they are original houses of Bridgeport World). The Sim appears again when I do this, but occasionaly it happens again. If the Sim is upstairs, I often do moveobjects on to take him downstair to avoid problems, but sometimes it just happens or I forget it. It doesn't happen to just one Sim, it happens to all the Sims in my lot if I go downstairs.

3. If I'm downstairs, I can see my Sims upstairs laying on the bed. I'm on the first floor, but I can see them on the second floor with no bed. If I go to the second floor, the bed appears.

4. Sometimes a Sim is having a shower and he sends all the Sims of the lot out of the house because he was being "disturbed". But the Sims didn't enter to that room, they weren't even close to it! This has happened twice, the same shower. Two Sims laying in bed on another bedroom (second floor), and one Sim in the kitchen (first floor), and they all have to leave the house.

5. My Sim was on level 9 of Police job. I noticed his improvement on the job was going down for one reason. I checked this once while he was sleeping and I realized that it appeared "missing job". It wasn't his job time, but I sent him to work, and if it was 7 pm (more or less), he was working until 0:30 am, when he was supossely finished. I sent him to bed (obviously, he was really tired) and on the following morning I realized that he appeared as "missing job" again, (not in a work day, not his schedule), so I sent him to work again. He was from 10 am (more or less) until 0:30 am working. He finished and I checked RIGHT AFTER he finished and yes, it appeared "missing job", so he is supposed to wor 24/7! He got to level 10 and I phoned for his retirement because he could no live like that! One of the times that he got to work he was dressed as a cooker, although he worked as a policeman.

6. Other of my Sims works as a nanny. It gets really difficult to do a good job since the lags make it really hard (she spends more time than the usual to do a single task) and when she has done 3/4/5 different tasks with the kids, she stops doing anything. The action is on the queue, but she does nothing. I tried deleting the first one of the queue, moving the Sims to other places with movebjects on... it doesn't work, and I ended up losing my license twice.

7. The lenght of my Sim Teenage is about 20 days. I have had the message of prom like three times in this time. Then I can't ask for prom and it doesn't take place.

8. My teenager gets the desire of learning to drive. She learns to drive, unblocks the desire and then the desires comes again later. The same happens with a desire of wanting to have an extracurricular activity, it appears although she is one already!

I don't remember any more issues, but I'm sure there are a lot more I'm forgetting about. These issues are on one lot in Bridgeport. I have been playing in the previous months with other lots with no problems (well, the problem of freezes and lags is there since the hard reset).

What I have done

1. Copying the lot and moving it to the same house/other house. It solves it temporarily.
2. Deleting cache files.
3. Deleting .packages files and DDCCache.

The problem is still there.

I ended up deleting that save and problems seem to not show up again, but the lags (but of course, I understand my laptop is not good enough, although I don't have enough money to buy a new one).

I'm amazed that the Sims 3 even runs on your computer! I understand you can't afford a new computer (I know how that goes!) but are you aware that playing the sims 3 on that computer could damage it? You computer is way under spec and you should read the following articles:

Yes, I know it, and I've read those articles, thank you for the information! Yes, it runs pretty well, a little slow but about 2 minutes to load Sims 3 and the game in total, it actually performs better than Sims 2 did. But today I got a file corrupted of another save and that save won't load, the others do.

I seriously want to buy a new one, but I can't afford it plus I only play Sims 3 when I'm on summer holidays and I have time, so it's not worth it... but yes, I read some problems that other users have in better computers than mine and I'm amazed because my game has NEVER crashed and in other computers it happens.

I am worried about damaging my laptop, although I do backup very often, I lost my hard drive once (well, I didn't lose any of my data because what was broken was the part of starting the disk, the other part was ok and I could restore everything. I don't know if I explain it well in English, in Spanish is named "disco duro de arranque"). Overheating is sometimes bad in summer, but I do have an external fan and I clean my internal fan very often, so I don't have problems of that kind. Arggg I want a new laptop :( but they all are really expensive. Thank you a lot for your help.

Edited: I have owned this computer for 4 years and I've been playing Sims 2 and Sims 3 ever since and game has never crashed, so I've been lucky, but I know I have to buy another one :(

Edited 2: Weird, I went to www.systemrequirementslab.com and it says my laptop has the minimum requirements.

I suggest you look into getting a desktop (once you've saved up your money). You can get a desktop that's good for playing the sims 3 at around the third of a price of a comparable laptop! If you need a laptop (for school, for instance), it's cheaper to get a desktop for playing and a secondary laptop than it is to get a laptop that can handle both. I suggest you check out the hardware forum.

Also, Can You Run It? is a notoriously inaccurate.
