View Full Version : Silly Question

I can't seem to find the answer to my question...how on earth do people make their neighborhood deco look so crystal clear while in lot view?
Usually when I am playing a family...I look beyond the lot perimeters and my neighborhood deco buildings tend to look very blocky and ugly. Is there a way to fix this for storytelling purposes?

I'd say: forever. As in like, everyday game-play.

What?
OP: I don't think I've ever paid attention to the surrounding areas of a lot before. But honestly if the story is good the background really shouldn't matter...especially if it's just the neighboring lots. I mean great detail all around would be great and obviously make the scene look better but you just have to worth with what you have. Are your graphic settings turned all the way up?

Yeah my graphics are turned all the way up, i have a pretty decent graphics card too. I was just wondering because i've seen pictures on peoples albums and the background hood decos look crystal clear, I was thinking perhaps there is a secret trick I am not aware of =]

Isn't there a graphics option for objects on neighboring lots, or am I imaging things again?

Maybe you can create a film lot to making shots for your story, instead of using neighborhood decoration. For example, if it's a city scene, make tower facades, and roads and a park, or something. Like so:http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/4/3/1/2/8/9/5/MTS_d_dgjdhh-1302968-storytelling3.jpg
Now if it's for things like stop signs, traffic signals, etc. that don't come in the buy catalog, then that's a different story. Perhaps those objects exist for download.

Wow...so those things arent neighborhood decos? Youre right...maybe I can just build a wall and put windows on it....but not have anything inside. Kinda like a hollywood movie set!
Can't believe I didnt think of this earlier!

I remember when I wanted to try out the whole storytelling thing they also recommended that you make sets like this that way. Also for rooms you make them like real set so not all the walls are closed in so you can have better lighting.

Those lots are amazing! What a creative idea to just make decorative lots!

I do not think there is a way, besides creative photo editing or fake hood buildings, like deco.
In this photo, my buildings look blocky, too:

But I just have a lot of hood deco to disguise it a bit.

I don't mind it, really, unless it's where there's a roof up against the side of the house and it exposes and upper floor . . . ugh.
Liv, where'd you get that mailbox cover to the far left?

What?
*Sigh* What I meant to say is to keep the deco "crystal clear and well defined" forever, not just for storytelling purposes, i.e. everyday gameplay, not only for a while.
I can't believe no one understood what I was trying to say.

I can't believe you assume, based on one person not understanding, that no one did. :p

Well, I got 7 'Disagree's' so...??????
Anyway, I hope everyone now does. :D

That just means that 7 people didn't understand you. 7/258 is still not a bad percentage. :)
But I hope you're right.

d_dgjdhh, wow! that looks great. Giving me some ideas now for my neighbourhood :)
I think there is options in the graphics section that makes it somewhat better? Something about nieghbourhood lot view?

"Disagree" doesn't automatically mean "I don't get it." In this case, it could mean, "I wouldn't want such a mod because on my computer, it would make my game lag like a mo-fo." ;) eta: At least, that was my thought. Not about my own computer (and I didn't hit the disagree button, btw), but it's something I can imagine a number of people thinking.

Oh okay. Thanks for the clarification. They could've said that though.

It didn't make any sense to me..
1. Because of how you stated it..like it was just a blip of a sentence and
2. She was asking how people get their backgrounds so detailed
So I didn't understand the answer you gave her.

As in straight jumping to something. I get it and I apologize, I just thought you might understand what I meant, straight-forward(-ly).

It's a mailbox default from avanti entrance set at simgedohns, you can get it at the booty:

The problem with making a film lot with towers like that is that the wall tiles get used up fairly quickly. So, don't expect making elaborate rooms, lol.

If I understand correctly, you should be able to get around the wall tile limit by creating new modded wall scripts which are identical to your existing wall scripts.

Sets are always good option. That's what I did for all of my city scapes when I entered sim modeling contest. Then of course most of my set didn't even make it into my pictures. Before spending a lot of time building sets think about what is actually going to be in a picture and the shots you need. I eventually came to prefer multilots. Park/Rink/Groc or Tavern/Club/Coffe shop I found that kind of building gave me lots that were both functional and good for photos and storytelling. :)
