View Full Version : Windows won't go the right direction?

I'm building a new house, and in one section, the windows absolutely refuse to turn the right way. I know it's difficult usually, but this is absolutely impossible.

The house is on a foundation, with a basement. It's comprised of two segments- the main house and the master suite. Between the segments is an open driveway(1 open space on each side), and the segments connect by a hallway on the second floor. The two walls that look onto the driveway are the ones that won't window correctly. There's an issue in the same area upstairs, as well, but only for one or two windows.

I tried the moveobjects cheat. The windows work fine when they're facing the wrong direction, but when I turn them the right way, the game makes it so you only see the window frame, not the panes, and it lowers it to the level the window would be if there was no foundation.

I tried removing the driveway and disconnecting the two segments(I left some of the hallway still there), with minimal success. Fixed two windows, and the rest still give me issues.

I just don't understand what the problem is; why the game will not allow me to rotate the windows. At this point, I'm almost ready to give up, but I know that will probably make me dislike the house from that point on.

Explanations? Ideas? Suggestions? Help meee?

Does the white grid show on that area? If not, try placing floor tiles (on the outside of the house), starting in a spot that DOES have the grid until you have tiles going underneath the area you want to place the windows. See if that helps.

You can also use moveobjects on/off cheat to place stubborn windows and doors.

Do you mean like, as in the wall blocks the glass? If so, then don't worry, all you need to do is leave the lot and get back in it.

Usually that happens when you're trying to place a window on an occupied wall, or a wall that has part of a roof blocking it.

I've also had success by temporarily deleting nearby walls. T intersections cause problems placing walls sometimes.. If I keep the intended wall there, but delete intersecting wall segment, windows place easier. You can replace your wall segment after windows are good.

That part right there is why I suggested the floor tile "trick". It's something I figured out way back before I knew there were forums you could ask questions in. :)

An occupied wall can make windows not place. Roofs can, too. But if there's a foundation and NO grid lines in the area you want to place a window (or door).. adding floor tiles will make the grid appear, which will allow you to place windows/doors if there was nothing blocking their placement to begin with.
