View Full Version : ENOUGH !! The neverending crashes of my game

Hello. I posted because I seek help, I have enough of this crap !!

I have a MacBook Pro with TS3 base game, WA, LN, GEN, Pets re-re-reinstalled, plus patch 1.34 and a load of custom contents in sims3pack. If I let it with only these, my game is working.

BUT. I tried adding my mods (packages) all up-to-date, I have 4 folders in my Mods file (installed with the MTS Framework, so no pb with the resource.cfg file) containing all of my packages: there is "Clothes", "Body", "Build" and "Game Mods".
I threw away the old "Hair" and "Clothes" folders I had because my game wouldn't load, and replaced it with sims3pack versions of those files, even though I trashed several beloved packages too.

And NOW, some files in my "Body" Mods made my game stopped working! It is a nonsense as they shouldn't be able to do so (it's not some game hacks), but "Hair" wasn't too, and did it even though.
I know it's these files that are making my game crashes, because I tested with and without various combinations of my package folders.

My game wouldn't load if those folders "Make-up", "Animals'Bodies" (sliders and splotches and so), "Tattoos" and "Hairs" (brows, beards...) were put inside the Mods' folder.

When I load the game with these folders in the Mods' folder, it lets me with just a black blank screen, with my desktop mouse icon (not the sims' blue one). Sometimes I get an error/debug message, but rarely.

When I loaded the game without these folders, my game would show a normal black screen+ desktop mouse for a minute or about, then change the mouse's icon and turn in the sims' blue one, and finally the black screen would turn immediately in the Pets' blue load screen.

So when I thought that I would abandon the idea of using my beloved body mods, I tried loading my game without the faulty folders and TA-DAAA! My game was blocked to the black screen !!! But before all that, remember? I said it WAS working.
So I am currently smashing my head to my keyboard because of incomprehension.

I tried authorizations repair, rebooting, and of course trashing those nasty caches files several times.

What do I do now???

I passed 3 hours yesterday, just to reinstall all of my EPs, patching and reinstalling my sims3pack files, I don't want to do it again soon !!

I repeat, I have a MacBook Pro, and I am not at all an expert in those computers, so help me pleeeeaaase with simple steps to repair my game !!

Thank you and sorry for the long post ! :bunny:

I made my game work again, sorta, without the faulty CC ( ), if "work" is the word...

The image loading in CAS is very low and the graphics of the game are all messed up and pixellised, like it want me to become epileptic, and then the game quit on its own with an message error/debug OxOOOOOO... This is not the first time it does that, but the first time it is so messed up I can't even play !
See the screenshot attached for one example of the problem. :wtf: :(

Somebody please give me an idea! Something !

Please someone ?

I know it's a long post and a little confused, but if you want more info, or details, just ask me :)
I really need some alternatives to just throw away my mods or reinstall...

Could you post your specs (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:System_Specs)?

Could you post your specs (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:System_Specs)?

Of course, here you go:

MacBook Pro 2,4 GHz, Ram 4 Go
System version: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
Core version: Darwin 10.8.0
Graphics:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU, PCIe x16, Ram 256 Mo
and Intel HD Graphics (integrated GPU), Ram 288 Mo

Is that all you needed or did I miss some info ?

I think my computer is not to blame am I wrong?

Make sure that you are using the nvidia card and not the intel one when you play.

Make sure that you are using the nvidia card and not the intel one when you play.

Can I change that ? I got this computer last year, and I am not totally familiar with how to modify things like that yet.
But I think it's the Intel one that my computer is using, because it displays a range of info about my monitor, but it says that no monitor is plugged on the Nvidia info.

EDIT: okay I found an application that changes that. I will try launching my game again, I'll be back to tell the result ;)

You can change it in System Preferences > Energy Saver, then choose 'higher performance'.

You can change it in System Preferences > Energy Saver, then choose 'higher performance'.

No I don't have that parameter: I got "suspend hard disk activity as soon as possible", "reactivate when there's network access", "automatically reduce lightning before sleep mode" (not actual titles, I just roughly translated it from french), and that's it.
Nevermind I managed to do it anyway :)

About the result, now: it is slightly better, but there's a lot of glitches and big graphic problems even though (see the screenshots I managed to take during epileptic moments).
The game completely froze after 10 mn when I was building a house, so I had to force the computer to shut down because Alt+Cmd+Esc didn't work!

And this doesn't solve the problem with my mods that unable my game to launch. I tried with minor mods (like tattoos) and it didn't load. I removed them and it loaded... :faceslap: :wtf:

If there was a problem with the graphic card, why did it worked before all that ? I managed to play for many hours before, created many households... I think patch 1.34 destroyed my game  How to explain all that mess if not ?

I am gonna try without any CC in my Mods folder, I'll be back to tell if the graphics are better (though I highly doubt it, as I see no connection between the 2 problems) (but I am desperate)

Okay. that's weird. The game perfectly worked without all my CC, no bugs. Now I have to know which one is causing those glitches, I think I'll have a bad time testing all that beloved crap.

That is so frustrating !! Why is it happening now ? It worked before, I updated all the mods that needed it. Why hair and a bunch of minor mods would cause graphics failure and loading issues like that??

I'm on snow leopard still, they probably changed where that's set in lion.

I missed that it worked without CC. Try this: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Finding_Problem_Custom_Content. It should help you locate the bad CC, the 50/50 method will probably be the best way. The wrong graphics card, while not the cause of the problem, certainly didn't help, so it's good you're using the right one.

There's no such thing as a minor mod. Anything that modifies the game files can potentially break with a patch. If you follow the link above, you should be able to narrow it down. Good luck!

Oh, and you can use the edit button in the lower right of your post if you need to add something.

Yes I know about the edit button sorry for the double post, I thought it would be clearer like that.

I am aware of the 50/50 method, I am trying it right now ;)
Maybe I have some mod conflicts, but apart from testing the mods isn't there a program to check conflicts like there is on Windows?

So you're saying even hair packages could break my game? And I thought I was quite experienced with CC problems...
Damn I have so many CC... even though I removed most of them for caution... I might have to be on this all night ! The things we do for "fun" ;)

EDIT: I might have found a way to use Delphy's Dashboard on my mac (by using Mono), but I have yet to test this method.

EDIT 2: I am now practically sure it's a problem of mod conflict, because every packages folders I have previously put in the Mods' folder are working perfectly with the game when there're separated. No graphic bugs to report with those same separate folders.
Mono won't work with Delphy's Dashboard because of an unknown error, so hello endless mod testing ! I think I'll be going slightly mad in a matter of hours...

So.... I don't know yet what caused this never-seen-before massive bug on my game, but I found a way to temporarily avoid it, by playing in a window (who'd have known it would be so easy to solve? damn!)... At least I was able to play about 2 hours before my game froze on CAS (I saved just before that \o/ ) So it appears this thread has no reason to be anymore...until the next bug at least ;)
