Hi, I'm trying to build an L-shaped staircase. I tried using http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/buildedit/houses/multilevel/stairs.php , but I have an issue when I go to place the upper staircase. Namely, it refuses to be placed. Instead of stopping at the landing tile, the staircase will extend past it all the way to the ground and says 'must place on floor'. Is there any way to make it work?

Do you have the "moveobjects on" cheat enabled?

Have you tried placing the stairs from the top down?

(Thanks for moving this to the right topic!)
This is what happens when I try to place the stairs: http://i46.tinypic.com/23j2uev.png
I tried both with the moveobjects cheat on and off, and with cfe on and off. I don't THINK the terrain is the wrong height, I followed the tutorial exactly (and was quite a pro at stairwells in Sims 2). I also tried removing the foundation and leveling the terrain outside, putting walls up, etc. Didn't work.

I had troubles recently placing a staircase like that. I had to knock down the twisted back wall. You can probably put that up later again.

I'd suggest trying two things to solve this issue
firstly - as you are placing a stair between two floor tiles on the same level as eachother, make sure that both the top floor tile and the lower one have flat level around them (i.e. that the slope you've made is wider than you need it to be by at least one tile on each side at the top and bottom) stairs seem to be much happier to be placed if this is the case. So in your case this would mean ensuring that the top height is squares wide and so is the lower elevation, for a double width staircase this would be four etc etc
secondly - I'd try getting rid of your wall on the higher floor just while placing the stairs, you can rebuild it and it can interfere with the placing of tricky things like staircases
That's all I can think of for now...
