I thought we could make a thread to link to some Sims 1 tools, as well as to give information about how to use those tools.

Here are a few I can find, please add your links, and of course, any information.

FAR Out (PC): This program allows you to create and manage FAR files. FAR files are like a special archive for Sims 1- if you have many IFF files you can pack them all into a single FAR which allows the game to read them more quickly.
Get FAR Out at Paladin's Place. (http://www.paladins-place.org/FAR_Out.htm)

Sim Wardrobe (Paladin's Place) also has many other Sims 1 tools here. (http://www.paladins-place.org/EditingPrograms.htm)

FAR Extractor (PC): A little program to extract the files from FARs- get it here. (http://www.mikesvb.co.uk/Programs/FARExtractor/FARExtractor.htm)

IFF Pencil 2 (PC): IFF Pencil 2 is an editor for IFF files that edits almost everything: STR#, FAMs, TTAs, CTSS, OBJD, OBJf, BCON, BHAV, TTAB, DGRP, and so forth. Get it at Simprograms. (http://www.simprograms.com/the-sims/the-sims-1/the-sims-programs/programs-the-sims-object-editors/)

Various other Sims 1 utilities are also available at Sim Programs. (http://www.simprograms.com/the-sims/the-sims-1/the-sims-programs/programs-the-sims-miscellaneous/)

The Sims Transmogrifier (PC): The Sims Transmogrifier is a tool that lets you clone The Sims objects, and edit their name, price, description and visual appearance. Get it from the Transmogrifier website. (http://www.thesimstransmogrifier.com/) The site has some documentation too, so that you can learn how to use the program.

IFF Snooper (Mac PPC): An editing tool for IFF files. Also allows editing of wall files ( .wll files), floor files ( .flr files) and .FAM files since these are all IFF files with alternate file extensions. Get it here. (http://download.cnet.com/IFFSnooper/3000-7513_4-55432.html)

FAR Sight (Mac PPC): Allows you to preview and extract FAR archives. Get it here. (http://www.strout.net/macsoft/farsight/intro.html)

Including Sim Show and Simpose, which you really want if you're skinning.

*edit* Oops yours was a different link to the page that has these 2 progs...I see your link has file cop though, which was great for checking meshes and skins that would make your game misbehave....and not just for creators, for anyone installing custom clothing, so much quicker than going through them manually.
Link to the page containing SimShow and SimPose (http://www.simprograms.com/the-sims/the-sims-1/the-sims-programs/programs-the-sims-skinningcharacter-editors/)

*edit2*
Sim Show was really for previewing skins (on a 3d model) you'd made without loading the game up. But more than that, it would allow you to drop your skin onto ANY mesh you had loaded into it, so you could flick through loads of meshes previewing your skin on all of them in a few minutes, then you could pick which one you wanted it to sit on, and code your bmps accordingly...also, sims 1, unlike 2 & 3, did not let you select a hairstyle for a face, the hair came attached to the head file and you couldn't change it in game. Sim show will allow you to drop a head bmp in and flick through the hair meshes you've loaded into it allowing you to quickly select a new one or one you think suits it better, or even to select a handful for a fave sim, then you can code the bmps or many copies of the bmps to pick up your fave meshes...this could also be done with any clothing you'd downloaded too, of course, so you could easily see what a standard looking long dress, or even a top and trousers, would look like sitting on a ballgown mesh, or straight legged jeans as flares etc. An amazing prog and very simple to use. For me it was one of the most useful progs I could have had next to paint shop pro for skinning. A must have. Loads of fun to play around with too even if you aren't making skins.
You could sit any gender or any age group clothing item on any gender or age group mesh as well (make sure to disable the filter before you do this or it will crash).

Simpose was great for posing your skins on models for screencaps. I think most everyone used it to put up preview pics of skins for their websites. Again a fantastic prog, and simple to use, you could save your own custom poses too, people used to have pose collections available for download, don't know if any of these are still around. The program provided a lot of control over each joint on your static sim, and you could load more than one sim into it at a time...think you could load 4...it might have been 3, but you could individually pose each one, great for making group pics. Again, great fun to play around with even if you aren't making skins.

Feel free to add some detail about those, ChickieTeeta- perhaps you could mention it in your skinning article, too. :)

This page has object editors, includes things like rug-o-matic and Sims Art Studio...great for making your own rugs and paintings if you don't know how to use T-mog.
I bought the full version of rug-o-matic...wonder if I have any chance of remembering the code to unlock it :(
If anyone downloads this prog could you let me know if it's the full version unlocked that's available now, it may be since the interest in TS1 has waned.

Loving this new TS1 forum, and thank you for moving my thread here from the TSM forum =)

SimEnhancer was the best for fixing skins - don't know if it's still pay though I can't see how it would be now:

I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the links to CC thread. This site has the archives to the Maxis "Get Cool Stuff" such as the add-on skin packs, some Maxis houses, objects and programs such as Make-A-Date, Make-A-Celebrity, Home Crafter, Face Lift, File Cop, etc...

I just visited the site, because I wanted to play around with IFF Pencil 2...and it's not there. (Had to change some "s" to "z" in the text above. It wasn't flowing correctly with the MTS site trying to add links to them all.)

Unfortunately , I just learned that all the Links at Simprograms are GONE! Yes, the page is still up, and you can go there and click on the download Link. And when you do you get a "404" error page :( .

If you join CTO sims (you have to join and make 10 forum posts to have access to all their downloads, but they're really pretty nice, and there's more downloads than you could ever hope to download!) they have a link to a download with all the programs on one of their forum posts.
