View Full Version : Glitch in my custom world that affects transporting Sims from place to place?

As far as I'm concerned, I believe this is the best fitting category for my topic, considering this topic might fit in other categories or none at all.

Me and a friend have just finished building a world in CAW that took ages to create. So, I load it into the game and we begin populating the world and building things in it like the rabbit hole lots, night clubs, houses, etc. And begin populating it too. We get into the stage far enough that to turn back would be awful. Anyways, it's the first time I've decided to actually use real bridges. So, we do. Well, there is something weird with them and will be described as follows:

Say for example I'm on the 'Mainland' part of the world and I want to get to the 'Island' part using this bridge, it's a small bridge by the way. If I just select a lot to visit from my current position, the Sim will instantly complain about something being in the way right there where they stand. They won't even move. So, I make them go to the bridge. They stand in front of the bridge and then I make them go across. Okay, no big deal. Then I send them off to that lot I wanted to go to.

But for some reason if you direct them to some place that's across the bridge, they won't do it. It's annoying and inconvenient. I don't want to use Subways constantly. I hope you know what I mean. And I know it has nothing to do with custom content, I've already ruled that out. Anyways, here's a map with circles and a legend:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-1_fQIX7jAQY/UAguZTDjVYI/AAAAAAAAAkU/JBXukOlJkLI/s1008/Diagram.jpg

What the colours mean is:
The red circles mean there is a bridge there
The purple circle is where the only access road for the main downtown area is
The blue circles indicate areas that can only be accessed by those smaller bridges

Bad news- it's most likely a bridge routing issue which means that you'll have to go back into CAW to fix it.

These threads have some tips about what to look for:

Okay, that may be the problem. Just a couple of things:

I'm able to get my Sims to cross all the bridges completely without issue, if I get them close to it.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0J9acAz31y8/UAg4CBzuoII/AAAAAAAAAkg/vCXI56KIVUY/s924/Across%2520the%2520bridge.jpg

Secondly, how on Earth would I be able to get the world with it's current completion into Create A World? Like, without losing my progress. I'm aware that I could back up all my lots and families, but that would be a pain in the rear at I might end up forgetting something, or making duplicates, etc.

But thanks anyways.

That may be, but if they won't plan a route using the bridges, it shows that there is a problem.

Something you could do that may help is to use Twallan's Overwatch to find stuck sims, but of course that will only show if they do actually become trapped (and not if sims routefail).

Another thing that would be good is if you could show some images of the route splines taken from in CAW (click the 'show routing' button and take some images of the bridges, but with the bridges hidden).

This is why world building is so tricky, and why it's important to playtest the world thoroughly before 'going live'. You can lotbin the lots and then place them in the world in EIG mode- that way they will be part of the world itself. Also, you can import the sims to the world too, so that the world is pre-populated.

And more help can be found in the CAW forum (click Create> Sims3> Create-a-world at the top of the page).

I already use the Overwatch mod to prevent any problems like that from arising. If I try to 'play test' the world, for some reason it corrupts, along with trying to edit it in game. So I can't do that, not even a re-installation of the game and CAW work to fix that, so I just went with what I had.

I'll reference to the link you posted, thanks for that. I hope that'll help.

Considering the fact that I do not know how to hide the bridges, this is the best I have:

I don't understand what you are saying here- you are able to play the world in-game now, that is no different from play testing it. I was meaning that, before you began to add your sims and set up the scenarios and play it for real, you could have used a mod to rapidly populate a test version, to test the routing.

Considering the fact that I do not know how to hide the bridges, this is the best I have:
View> Layers> untick 'object'

Are your roads connected to the bridges correctly? The little squares are usually pale blue if they are.

Oh, okay.

I thought by 'play test' that you meant edit in game, which corrupts the world if I do something and try to edit the world back in CAW. So I'll have to revert to a backup.

Here is what the routing data shows when I hide the bridges:

Here is another picture of one of my bridges:

How do I fix this so the bridges work correctly and the Sims will plot routes with them in mind, without them complaining about something being in the way? None of the above threads linked seemed to help me.

We cannot even see the blue spline in those pictures. That may have been the problem.

The threads simsample linked to all mentioned that the splines that span both banks need to be visible and not have a sharp dip in the center that it makes a V. Have you tried this suggestion?
Or, you're saying the suggestion has not helped, even when you have raised the terrain to make the spline straighter? Then, that needs further investigation...and experimentation.

The problem is that there is no set formula I can give you to magically make it work- it depends upon the location, and is not something you can always visually determine.

To make your pictures better, you could show the same thing but with the fog turned off so that the water is transparent.

Try resculpting the riverbed as Ellacharm3d suggests- backup your world first, then just experiment to see what happens (you can always revert to your backup if you make it worse).

The way to do it is to change something, save, export the world and install it in-game to test. You need to either give it a new name (in the world details) or else uninstall the old version first, if you already have it installed. Or better still- create a fresh set of user files by dragging your Documents/ Electronic Arts/ The Sims 3 folder to the desktop, so that you can install the world to a clean game to test. Then, uninstall the test version and go back into CAW to make any changes needed, and repeat until you have it fixed.
