View Full Version : VPU recover problem and crashes

Hello,guys! Here are my specs:

CPU: Athlon 3700+
RAM: 2x1024 DDR3
Video: ATI Radeon HD 4730
Video RAM: 512 mb DDR5
Motherboard: ASUS A8N-E
PSU: Gigabyte 460 Watt
OS: Windows XP

All drivers are up to date.

So...here's the problem. While playing, usually in CAS or chaging colours, appears the following thing : VPU recover blah, blah blah... of course ..it recovers for a minute or more, but then again and then all fails ahahaha bullshit! This is really annoying.Another thing is the random crash while playing the game(the game is not played at all maximum: edge smooth high, texture high, sims high, visual effects medium, shadows medium, tree medium, draw distance low,1 house available... So...can you give me some help how to fix this up,both the VPU recover shit and the random crash...Or at least the VPU recover...Some time ago, when I played The Sims 3 again, I only had the random crash and very very very rarely the pixels due to the VPU recover...SO...I hope you give me some ideas how to fix my game in order to play...

PS I'm a SIMS' fan from the beginning...So you can understand how this hurts not to play the game :D

General - Check Temps
In some cases, game bugs/crashes/general computer issues can be caused by your computer overheating. To ascertain whether or not overheating is a cause of your problem, please follow these steps:

Firstly, download and install HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html). Run the program - you should see lots of numbers; if you don't know what any of them mean, don't worry - you don't have to. :)

With HWMonitor running, use your computer normally for twenty or thirty minutes - no games, just browsing the web, using IM, playing minesweeper etc - and at the end of the twenty or thirty minutes, take a screenshot of the HWMonitor window and save it.

Then do the same again, keeping HWMonitor open, while you play Sims for twenty to thirty minutes. If your game is crashing before the thirty minutes is up, just play until it crashes. If your computer is freezing, shutting down, or restarting itself, play for as long as you think you can before the freeze/shutdown/reboot, then quit the game. Take another screenshot of the HWMonitor window.

Finally, attach both screenshots to a post in this thread - you can upload them to photobucket or tinypic etc, or you can hit "Go Advanced" in the Quick Reply box and use manage attachments to upload them to MTS.

Hmm, there are a couple of potential problems with that card. I'm struggling to find benchmarks for it, but a few reviews are comparing its performance to 9800s and 4670s, which suggests that it should be powerful enough for TS3. I am a little dubious of that, given the model number. I don't suppose you still have links to, or remember, the sites/reviews you used when you bought the card?

There are also some worrying reports of serious overheating issues for the Sapphire card using this chip - I wonder if that's the one you have? Whether or not you have the Sapphire, please check your temperatures using the instructions above.
Another concern is power: the 4730 seems to be a very inefficient card. I assume that your PSU is from the SuperB range, as that's the only one I can find any info on when it comes to Gigabyte PSUs - correct me if I'm wrong. With that card, 460W is cutting it pretty fine, and that's assuming that the PSU actually outputs 460W - most don't output what they're rated at, and since that one isn't rated 80PLUS (at least 80% efficiency), I'd be very surprised if it were actually providing 460W. Assuming an efficiency of about 70%, you'd be getting around 330W from the PSU, which is very very close to the minimum for that card - I haven't factored in your other components, so I don't know precisely how much you'd need. The rail ratings also don't seem to be terribly impressive for that PSU, but I'm struggling to find info on what the card requires from each rail.

That's not a machine equipped for Sims. Sorry. :(

Weak CPU, 2GB RAM and a dubious GPU performance - all make a very very bad combo.

Just for comparison sake, I can still run sims 3 on my old comp without issues.

Asus p5ne-SLI
Intel Core2 q6600 2.4
nvidiaGT430 1gb gpu
4gb ram (1024x2, 1024x2)
550w NZXT PSU

You could build something comparable for very little, although i'd suggest an upgrade to a mobo with LGA 1155 socket
