I wasn't sure where to post this, so I went with here, but if it's the wrong place maybe someone would be so kind as to direct me to the right forum?
My friend recently re-installed sims on her computer and asked me to help her out with some mods. We downloaded files from here, expecting the .rar's and .zip's to extract, blah, blah, blah. After downloading a good number of mods, all different creators and types, we looked at the files - to our surprise, they didn't seem to be 'files' at all.
Everything downloaded from the site, when it claims to be done downloading in the browser, shows up as "getfile", no file extension, with a google chrome icon. It doesn't matter what the mod is supposed to be or whether it's downloaded from chrome, IE, firefox, anything. The file won't extract using winrar or 7-zip, and neither of us have any idea how to fix this. Anyone know?

Are you using a Download Manager of some sort? Can you download from other sites? Do you right-click or just click?
By the way, what theme were you using on MTS when downloading?
Do you get the same thing downloading the FrameworkSetup.zip from the SimsWiki?
Both of you have this issue, on both your MTS account names, on any computer?
Or just one account (whose?) and the one PC?

She didn't feel like going through the registration process so I downloaded things from my account on her computer. My computer is totally fine, everything works. She can download from every other site we've tried, and we used right-click, save as to save the items. She downloaded the framework just fine and custom objects from other sites function fine in her game. No download manager.

Used right-click on all browsers? What happens if you don't right-click, just (left-)click? Still get the same "getfile"?
Also, does the browser prompt for what you want to do with the file or downloads automatically?
Why not register? Takes only a few seconds and she can ask her own questions next time or download using her own account and keep track of the downloads for future redownloads and keep track of favorites. Also, if you're thinking of sharing accounts, you know that's not allowed, right? See the Site Rules & Guidelines if you're unaware.

Same thing happens when we left-click. The browser opens the little window that lets you choose the file name, where to save it, etc.
We know, don't worry! She just wanted to download a couple things as a one-time thing, so I figured using my account on her computer would work just fine.

Downloading one file at a time?
When you're prompted with the Save File window, the filename is still "getfile"? Even when you right-click the file is not renamed?
Can you do a manual rename once the download is complete? And rename it to whatever the file is called on the Download tab? (While we figure out what is causing this)
You didn't state the Theme you're on?
The Download tab pop-up fine? There's no other issue with the site other than downloading? All images show up and the dropdown menus work OK?
This is the first time downloading from MTS on this computer? At her house? Is this a laptop or desktop, and is your own PC a laptop or desktop? If both are laptops, can you try downloading at each other's houses?
Is the computer on Windows? Which Windows version?
And what versions of each browser are you using?
Firefox 14.x?
Chrome 20.x?

One file at a time. When we're given the window the file name is still getfile, no visible file extension. We can choose to rename it but the functionality of the file doesn't change.
I'm not sure what you mean by theme, sorry :S
The download tab and everything else are totally normal.
Both computers are windows 7 with freshly downloaded browsers, so definitely newest versions. Hers is a laptop, mine is a desktop. We've only tried at my house but I'll try at hers later.

The MTS Theme - the style. From the dropdown at the bottom of the screen? It has names like Calm Storm, Experimental RO, Moddeth Thine Sims?
Have you logged out of all MTS tabs, clear all cache, cookies, history, close down browser, run CCleaner just to be sure and then try again?
And...I'm getting confused, sorry. :)
This issue is when using her laptop with your MTS account at your house? Is the downloading OK if you do it on your Desktop then, at your house?
If laptop is not OK but Desktop is OK, then we need to determine what different software you guys have - antivirus, firewall, running background processes? The laptop and desktop is connecting to the Internet the same way - wirelessly on both (or wired on both) - while at your house?
And back on the MTS themes - same on both laptop and desktop?

I've only ever managed to download getfile.php when I've accidentally misused a download manager or, as ella says, used right-click -> Save target as. Getfile.php is an "invisible" page on the site, which you go through every time you download a file: you're on the download page, you click the download link, you go to the getfile page, and then that page starts the download. What's happening is that instead of going to the getfile page, you're actually downloading it, so you never get as far as starting the file download.
Did you ever click "Do this for all files of this type", or similar, when you were trying to download using right-click?
