Relationships don't end after partner died

When my sims have a relationship, it doesn't end when my sims' partner dies.

I've had the same thing happen and I don't know that you can do anything about it. The relationship is kinda based on how the Sims interacted with each other. If there were no breakups when they were alive, then the relationship status is still the same when they die.

As far as I know, the relationship link doesn't break or end at death. That would probably involve too much difficulty for the programmers, as it might break other links (such as memories of being married or family link in the family tree).

Either get the deceased's urn, place it in your house and wait for the ghost to come out at night and then break up
or
install the MasterController mod and edit the relation manually.

I kind of wish mine would not break when one dies. I would like to show the family tree as they are still together (in a sense.)

If you're already using Awesomemod, there's a setting to set this globally instead of individual Sims (if that is what editing Relationship using MC entails). They can either forget the relationship and not have it affect future romances or have it retained.
