Hello,

I recently transfered my Sims 2 w/Univesity EP files from my desktop to my new laptop (Alienware). The first problem I noticed was when I went into the home of a family I had transfered from my desktop game - game play was cool but then I noticed that when moving the camera angle around, the graphics started to "act up". For instance, I would get this wierd "starburst" effect and then jagged lines would run through my screen and then it would be all over. The game was running smooth in the background.....but the graphics were shot!

So I deleted my old neighborhood (*sob) and installed a sim into a new home. No problem. Then I reinstalled all my old files and after playing a new home for awhile - the same problem happened again!!!

Could this be a problem with one of my downloads, my graphics card (I highly doubt but it's possible), game settings, or......I'm at a loss!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

What graphics card does your laptop use? You might search mts2 for that card and see what drivers are or are not working. Otherwise, get the latest drivers from the manufacturer. I could be wrong, but this really sounds like a graphics driver issue.

I have a Radeon 9700. Where could I find out what cards are compatible with the Sims 2/University? And thank you so much for your reply. I do NOT want to lose my families.....again! *sigh

Try searching by categories (select Graphics) and you'll find a bunch of posts that have been made with that category.

Also, here are Maxis' minimum specs:

Thank you for your assistance. I'm actually playing this game on a new laptop - don't know if playing on a laptop vs a desktop would make a difference.

I asked my hubby to take a look at what was going on and when the graphic issue came up, he told me to rotate the camera....and sure enough, the problem corrected itself. My husband believes it's not my graphics card but rather some of the downloads are not compatible with others.

Hmmmm......
