View Full Version : Game locks me out when I install downloads

I have Sims2 and University. I have numerous downloads which have all been categorised and tested with the Sims2 Clean Installer as late as 2 days ago.
Since then, I have had to reinstall the game 3 times, following a complete lockout. (The game won't load at all)
Here is what happens each time I reinstall.
1. I save the Sims2 folder to desktop
2. I uninstall the game according to EA\Sims2 instructions.
3. I reinstall Sims2 and University. No problems so far.
4. I reinstall the backed up copy of Sims2, except for the Downloads and Neighborhoods folders.

Then, one subfolder at a time, I install all my Bodyshop files, Walls, Floors, Game objects and Hacks, (in between testing the game of course). Still no problems.

At this point I have yet to install the Neighborhoods folder, and the subfolders for my 'object recolors', 'terrain paints' and GGiles 'transparent floors'.
As soon as I reinstall one of these folders and load the game for testing, nothing happens. Not even the splash screen responds.

I then remove every single download and the same thing happens. The game fails to load even the splash screen, yet there are no downloads at all. This leaves me no choice but to uninstall and try all over again. I'm going around in circles.

Please can someone help me I'm about ready to give up on the game

Trilink, I am having the same problems. However, I can't even get into a clean copy of the game (no downloads, no neighborhoods). I was playing fine until last Monday when the game decided not to open. I have installed/uninstalled numerous times. Yesterday, I even created a new user account and reinstalled. It worked. I then added my neighborhoods. it worked. I then decided I could not play with only Maxis defaults. During the last uninstall, I stupidly left my downloads folder in the game. So, I went to start redownloading. A couple hours later, I again tried to get back in the game. Same thing...load the splash screen and then wait for the computer to tell me that there is no disc in the CD drive.

I read soemwhere that some people are thinking that there was a batch of bad CD Roms sent out. I am beginning to think this is true and that I now have bought two bad copies. I know it's not my computer because all other games (Sim City 4 and Civilization II) run fine.

Update: Yesterday, I gave up on the downloads. I installed the neighborhoods. Finally the game opened. Then, I installed the hacks and fixes that I can't play without (I have one of those huge neighborhoods). The game ran fine. Will start adding downloads now.

Update: After two hours of trying to get into the game on Sunday, the computer finally told me that it might be due to the CD Rom drive. Best Buy confirmed that my drive was bad...the entire reason for all my headaches the last couple weeks. So, to everyone who can't get in their game...check out your drive...the lens may be bad or need cleaning. Mine needed to be completely replaced.

I tried to avoid reofmatting the computer but after six months of trying with everyones help I still had to reformat the hard drive.
I had been hit by spyware malware and scripted to (they removed my houses from my computer and caused my game to crash) now I use a lot of other protection. I hope it is just a simple thing, have you tried to remove the entries from the registry this worked once or twice?
good luck

I'm sorry, but this thread really doesn't belong in site tech support. This section is for help with the site itself, not the game. That would explain why you're not getting answers.

I'm moving it to Sims 2 Help now.

trilink2002, this sounds like every other Download conflict I have come across. If the game crashes AFTER you start adding your custom files, then I don't see where else the issue could lie. I am so glad you are using Clean Installer. Are you running it on Teleport, Saved Sims, and Packaged Lots as well? Check all your folders, these objects can sneak in with other things.
