I resisted buying University for months until I broke down and installed the ##@$! last week.At first, after following EXACT instructions, things looked good.
Although my college Sims wouldn't attend class,I had fun with the new
game additions. But then I wanted to go home to Pleasantville-and this is
where my problems begin.Houses would not let me in-they would load until
I gave up and escaped out of the game. And when I could get in, some furniture and
and appliances were bright blue-these must be the "non University" downloads I've read about! I searched in these very forums for help-so I uninstalled, clean installed and reinstalled.Going back into Pleasantville 90% of my families and homes are gone and I panic-I try everything that's been suggested.I delete the neighborhood file and paste my backup neighborhood
file into the newly installed game-nope,GONE.My downloads folder works fine in the new game, but treasured characters and homes are missing that took months to create. When I go through the "clean Installer' and put my saved
game through,my Sims all show up as still in the game. The "groups cache"
continually shows up after loading each game,so I delete, empty trash, and
relocate the file to my desktop-still it comes up in the EA Games file like a
bad dream. And I don't even know what this has to do with my missing neighborhood files but I know it's bad(I read it here again)I've installed
the patch at Sims2.com and I've reloaded the game without the patch-still
nothing.As a final effort,I uninstalled everything,reinsalled Sims2 only,deleted
the entire file and replaced it with my back up file..and still nothing.
Again,it's my custom homes and families that are gone-but still in the backup
file.If there is anyone out there that can help,I will donate another 10.00 to this site as a thankyou fee,if you will. And if it's an obvious mistake on my
part, you can humiliate me and sternly tell me to check the FAQ's nextime-I
don't care anymore!Or if my familes have somehow ended up in your own games, send them home to me-no questions asked,I promise.I am in so
much trouble with the OTHER Sims player in the house, that I may be deleted
and put in the family bin....Please help me! Thom

Not sure how much help I can be, but maybe can help on a couple of things here. Is your back up copy of the game from sims 2 alone? The way I installed mine was install sims 2, added copy of back up game, installed university. A back up game made after installing uni will not work for just the sims. Most non uni downloads, excluding hacks, usually won't cause a problem with loading. Need to remove all hacks and downloaded careers from game. Careers will cause the problem of not being able to enter a lot. Need to re-download uni version of hacks and careers.
As far as the group.cache file, it will be regenerated everytime you oad your game. It is not a problem unless your game will not load. You get a red X when you try. It tends to get corrupted sometimes, somehow.
I am not sure any of this will help but I will keep looking, if I find anything else I will post it. I hope you can get this worked out. :)

Adding! :) Remember to NOT install Maxis patch!!! Uni will patch it!

Back up your stuff. Uninstall "University" then "Sims 2", look under "Program Files/EaGames/Sims 2" and delete everything in there. Look under MyDocuments/EAGames and delete the Sims 2 folder. Dump your trash bin and re-boot your computer. Reinstall the game but DO NOT use the update patch you got from Sims 2 site! University will patch it for you! I sure hope this helps :( Don't put ANY user content in yet! Play the game with Maxis' neighbourhoods ONLY for now and see what happens. Its possible that your neighbourhood could have gotten corrupted somehow and if it did, it could mess up your entire game!

As for your objects, you probably need Color Options Enabler:

I don't know if you'll have to update your objects using SimPE to make them compatible or not....but most likely if you go to the site you got them all from you can download an updated copy!
