Ok, I apologize if this has been covered already...I'm sure it has, but I've been searching for some time now without luck at finding it. How exactly should subfolders be named? I saw in one post something like this: "Downloads - catagoryname". I tried that, with the dash and all, and it didn't work. So, the question is, what will? And after that, what names/types of subfolders for downloads would you recommend?

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated :D

I name mine by creator. It doesnt matter what you name them. The only items you can NOT put in a subfolder are body shop items (clothing eyes, skins, etc)
For example i have one folder thats names Hacks in my downloads folder, then the other ones you can name by item type or whatever suits your organization needs.

i've found that some hacks/mods don't like subfolders so leave them in the download folder. this just seems to be me though. everyone else can seem to do it
otherwise i name mine "build" for floors, doors etc
decorative for paintings, vases etc
kitchen
plumbing
fabrics for bedding and curtains
the grand trianon set has its own folder
children for cribs, toys etc
furniture
lighting
i also have some food which came in its own folder and i have left them in them

i like them like this so i know where to look for something. i'm sure i could have a better system but it works for me :)

Thanks for responding guys! So...are you saying you would lable a folder "somethingIfoundonMTD2" and then just drop that in your downloads folder? I tried that with something and it didn't work. Maybe it was as anelca said, that some mods don't like folders.....well, I could keep trying I guess.

Thanks again for the feedback. You're the greatest!

Here is the guide for subfolders and what can (and cannot) be put into them:

Subfolder names (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=46633)

Hacks/mods are the most difficult to work with - some can be placed in a subfolder and some cannot. Also if you have a number of hacks the order that they are loaded can be a reason why one works and another does not IF they affect the same BHAVs as one will overwrite the other yet both could work in a subfolder if they were seperate. So really pay attention to what they do and with what they could conflict.

This leads me to a question. My folders are labled by site that they came from. That works for me until some house dumps stuff in the main downloads folder. Anyway was running simpe today and wanted to see if I had any missing meshes. Said I had quite a few. Mostly recolors of other people's work. However, since the original meshes are in the folder of the site that made them and the recolors are in the folders of the sites that made them, are they not seeing each other? I opened an explorer window to check for the files and for the most part, they sure are there. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

Glacier, I love your quote. It made me pause and reflect.
