View Full Version : Sims 2 freezing when attempting to go to Dowtown B/B mode

Ok every single time I attempt to go to Downtown Buy/Build mode to edit lots, the game freezes, and all I can do to get out of it is to restart the computer.
It usually freezes on the Downtown loading screen, but once it froze after that, on a blank screen. When it does this the music continues to play, but nothing else happens.
I have no problems going downtown with a sim or a group of sims.
Aside from hacked objects, the only other hacks installed have been listed as working in Nightlife.

Yeah I had read that. That's why all the hacks I am using have been said to be working for Nightlife.
All the hacks being used are from TwoJeffs, Carrigon, JM Pescado, dizzy2, Inge, and the Insimenator, and only the ones they said are ok to use with Nightlife. There's also hacked objects, but they don't do anything except provide new meshes, and none of those are on downtown lots, because I haven't been able to get into Downtown B/B mode to put them there.
Edit:Removed all custom content {the entire downloads folder} to another location on my hard drive, and still got the same result.

Ok. Well I did a complete uninstall and reinstall. Went through all the downloads and deleted any that I had no clue what they were {just a bunch of numbers and letters for a name}, got rid of duplicates, and a few other things that I weren't sure should be in there.
I'm still having this issue, except this time I was able to open up the task manager {previous times the computer did nothing except remained on the loading or a black screen and played the music} and it seems my processor usage is jumping up to 100%.
Does no one have any idea what might be causing this?

It sounds like the loading process gets stuck in a loop. What are your system specs?

~e5.0001 is someting that EA does. It loads with the game and closes with it. Try closing every task that is running with your user name in the User Name collum except Task Manager and Explorer.

This happened to me on one lot, right after putting a new hack into the game (one about auto lights) and it loaded all the blue bars but after it finished loading them, it wouldnt go into the actuall lot. I could hear the music and stuff still, but it just kinda hung there forever. so I then got rid of the hack but then i also had to replace that lot (was a maxis one, so no biggy) but after that it all worked fine.

I have been having problems with that too, and it happens on any public lot. I even moved all of my downloads to a different area, and I still can't access any public lot. It doesn't matter if I am just building one, or loading a pre-created one.
I've got a pretty fast computer and enough memory, so I have no clue why it is happening.

I think it was called smart lights or something.

I don't think I have that one, but it sounds familiar. I also have a vague recollection of either downloading it and not installing it, or deleting it from my downloads/mods folder.
Edit:Nope. That one is not present anywhere on either of my harddrives.

I would recommend you work through this (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=81491) guide which should fix your issue.

I do not believe it is a conflict between downloads.
In my first post, I had stated that this problem exists even with the entire downloads folder removed to another location on the drive.
Still, I will try what you suggest.

SystemError5150 said in post #10 that closing all other running programs before hand stop it from happening. I think we should look for conflicts there.

Yes, though something must have done something. Right now I am at downtown. It's loading fine for me, and I didn't close any programs.
I did try step 2 in the link, so maybe it was that.
