Hi Jonesi,

Can you save it out as html as well from your office suite?

I've no office suite to open it. Thanks in advance...

Jonesi, what I need is the reverse: I have a pre-NL house, that means no garage. I would like to build the garage attached to the house. Final result would be similar to the house in tutorial. Is it possible to build the garage after the house?

Jonesi
30th Oct 2005, 01:10 PM
I'm not sure...I'll have a go later and let ya know!

EDIT:-

Had a go and yeah, its possible! :) not too difficult to understand either...
I've made a tutorial with pictures and directions...in word and html format - you need winrar to unpack it...hope it helps :)

The house you're adding the garage to needs to have a straight edge on the side you want to place the garage and remove all windows on the lower floor side wall (where the garage will go) as the walls will distort...

Thank you sooo much! I have just started playing NL and was getting frustrated at not being able to build attached garages. Many of my houses have foundations and not huge lots, so it's looks better to have them attached. Thanks again.

Nice tutorial :) I have a somewhat more complex request though..I've been trying in vain to make a house that has an attached garage, but which also has a room above the garage, the full two stories and everything. I've tried just having foundation in a small section of the house, as that would also fit my needs, but I then can't place floor tiles on the second floor above the foundation. Any suggestions?

Not complex at all :) Follow the tutorial (top one) all the way through to step 6. When it comes to step 7...you will see on the screenshot in the tutorial I added walls for the second floor.....simply add second floor walls over the garage also, as well as the rest of the house...

As for not being able to place floortiles, it sounds like you are not levelling the walls properley....follow steps 5 & 6 carefully, and also make sure you have two levels of walls (step 4) BEFORE you add the foundation....

Hope this was rellevent to what you meant! :)

but what about that two-tile gap around the garage? (I say around because in my floorplan the garage is connected to the house at two sides.) if I can't place doors or anything there (or in the gap on the second floor), my sims can't get the the room above it..

When you add the two storeys of walls before you add the foundation, you must add it over the garage and x2 gap as shown in the picture.

After you've added the foundation and levelled the walls with the level terrain tool, all walls (including the x2 gap and garage) should be level. You can then add floortiles and upper floor walls to the entire area.....no gap should apply on the upper floor, it's for lower floor only :)

As a side note, some people don't have Microsoft Word, or they have Microsoft Works instead. Usually a good rule of thumb is to save the file in .rtf or Rich Text Format becasue most word programs can read this. Word saves in this as does Works & Wordpad.

Thought I'd make things simpler then you having to add html and such.

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm - is the link and you download the very top one
WinRar 3.6 beta 8

Once you click the file to download, select save and save it to your desktop or a folder created on your desktop.

Once you've installed Winrar, right click the rar file you downloaded and click "extract here"

Does this still work? I have all of the expansion packs except Holiday. It seems like it has not worked since I installed OFB.
I built several houses using this tutorial between installing NL and OFB and it worked fine. It has been a while since I tried it. I was trying it today and noticed that I cannot put the foundation in the whole house section after completing steps 1-5. I can only add the foundation to within 1 tile of any wall. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Great tutorial, by the way. =)

It still works fine for me - sounds like you're not turning the cheat on before you add the foundation

I put in the boolprop constrainfloorelevation false and now I can't turn it off how do I do this? I type in boolprop constrainfloorelevation true that didn't work. then I typed in boolprop constrainfloorelevation off to see if that would do it and nothing happened.

Asp please anyone. I am new to these cheats and don't know any of them.

Slow down and check what is typed in your cheat box. Make sure that what is typed is spelled correctly and that the spacing and caps off is correct.
The way to type it is (without the quotation marks) "boolprop constrainfloorelevation true". I guarantee this will work.

still deep breathing,
