Title: 17 Magical Effects for Apartment Life
Purpose
- inspired by a request for green fire from pykkadilly at Plumb Bob Keep, to provide a set of Apartment Life magical effects, available from the Decorative/Misc buy mode catalogue for §19 each.
General Description
The effects have the following features: they may be placed on locked tiles and beach tiles, may be struck by lighting but are non-flammable, cannot be stolen or repossessed, and they remain in place if the lot is sold. For maximum flexibility, these items are flagged to allow placement on all types of surfaces. Although the catalogue descriptions may in some way categorize an effect as "Good" or "Evil" based on its original function, actually these Effects have almost no affect on Sims or other objects. For example the fires are completely harmless and do not cause panic. Note that Sims may come to see a newly placed effect, as they routinely do when new items are placed. All effects do have a slightly positive affect on environmental scores.
The catalogue descriptions also indicate that these effects are "Sinkable" meaning that they may be placed underwater or under the ocean. They are also height adjustable using the square bracket keys: []. I have included a "Magical Effects" collection file in a separate archive.
Contents
Magical Blue Smoke, Magic Circles, Magical Cyan & Pink Stars, Magical Gold Fire, Magical Green Fire, Magical Green & Yellow Stars, Magical Large White Orb, Magical Large Yellow Orb, Magical Light Beams, Magical Red Fire, Magical Red Smoke, Magical Small Green Glow, Magical Small Pink Glow, Magical Small White Orb, Magical Small Yellow Orb, Magical White Smoke, Magical Yellow & Orange Stars.
Note: please use caution when placing effects, as they may cause slowdowns on older machines, or in large and complex lots. Fires are particularly resource hungry. When using effects, less is more.
Terms of Use
You may include these effects in uploaded lots, whether for free or pay. Please include a credit and link to this page. I would be enjoy receiving a PM with a link to your uploaded creation, but this is not required.
Additional Credits

How To Use the Effects
The effects can be particularly useful when placed with objects that would otherwise be inert, such as placing a perfectly safe magical fire or glow in an unlit EA fireplace.
When first placed in buy mode each effect appears as a two dimensional magical symbol. Once in run mode the symbol disappears and the effect itself begins to be displayed. If you decide to relocate the effect with the mouse, the symbol will reappear in buy mode so that you can pick it up and it will stay visible until you return the game to run mode. If you prefer, you can select the included invisible recolour so that the symbol is never displayed at all.
The Magical Light Beams are a unique case, in that they are the only effects with a menu option to turn them off or on. By default the Light Beams are always on, and they light up a large portion of the lot - inside and out - centred around the magical symbol. To make it easier to access the menu option, the magical symbol remains visible while the game is running, although you may recolour the symbol invisible if you prefer. When placing this effect, note that the light beams will point in the direction of the object tile's green placement arrow. I suspect the Magical Light Beams would be of most use in fantasy lots or those that are predominantly outside, such as a sunlit park.

This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below for more information.
