first, i just want to say thanks so much for this tutorial. its so simple and easy to follow that even a newbie like me can understand. =) Thanks!
ok, now about my problem:
i have tried to follow your tutorial countless times, and each time everything goes as it should up until the part where i am supposed to select the table top in Wings3D (with the intention of saving the bounding box, cloning the cube, and scaling/moving it to saved BB.) When i manage to select the proper area (without going down too far) i always get an error that reads:
"Internal error - log written to c:/ PROGRA~1/WINGS3~1.32A/wings_crash.dump" (i'll try to insert a picture of the error screen, but i don't know if it will work.)
I can't figure out what is wrong, and im frustrated!!! lol
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Wings3D several times, but that doesn't change anything, and in fact sometimes it won't even install properly (depending on what website it get it from- the official website won't work!)
i really hope you can help, even though now that i think about it this may be something that i have to contact Wings3D about. But im really hoping that you and your brilliant, experienced mind will be able to help. =D
thank you SO much.

What scale should I use when exporting/importing to/from 3DS format? I am trying to make a chalkline fence but the line keeps coming out way too wide and long in the game, while the post is much smaller--yet both are exported/imported to/from 3DS format exactly the same. I even tried making the line the same width as the post, and much shorter, but it still got scaled up in the game! Sheesh...

I did everything you wrote and made the tutotial table, it works fine
then i made a sofa, i looked at the tutorial while i were doing the sofa, so i don't think there's a problem while i was making the mesh, but it seems like this in the game:

I hope I don't come off sounding ridiculously stupid, as I assure you I'm not...However, I can't seem to find the answer to my question, as follows:
I try to download both part 1 & 2 of the tutorial (blender).
I save these files to my desktop.
They are TS2 files, and if I click on them, I get a pop-up message alerting me to "click on a custom content file to install it"...
What am I doing wrong?
Same thing happens if I "open" the file, as opposed to "save"....I get that same pop-up message from the sims2 installer.
I need this tutorial, I am brand spankin new to this and have so far only gotten as far as downloading the necessary programs (SimPE, CEP, UVMapper and Blender)
I hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance.

Swordslayer,
I've never heard of your program, but if it has the right output, it might work. For most meshing work, you'll need .obj files. Have a look if it exports those. there's workarounds though. I believe people who make meshes in 3ds max, for instance, sometimes load their mesh in Milkshape, to export it as .obj from there.
tonyNadele69,
hmm, the blender tutorial is in a .rar file, and the actual content is a .pdf.
To open the .rar, make sure you have Winrar installed. If it still tries to open it with the sims installer, try saving the file to your desktop, then right-clicking and choosing 'Open with/winrar'.
Same goes for the pdf. You'll need something like Adobe acrobat reader or Foxisoft's pdf viewer to open it.
utdzeo,
for simpe to register your guid online, you'll definitely need an internet connection, so that's why you get the error.
But you can also register guid's manually.
Go here: http://sims.ambertation.de/en/guiddb/ and register an account and some guid's. Write them down.
Then in simpe, simply type in the guid yourself, in the Object data tab, instead of clicking 'get guid'. Then update, and commit, and all that.
Just make sure every line in the object data of every item you make, has a unique guid.

emperus,
thanks for the offer, translations are always welcome, though they're a huge amount of work on your part :)
I think the best person to send them to, is Numenor, since he added the other ones. He's on holiday till somewhere in september, I believe.
Open your eyes,
Please read my reply do tonyNadele, two posts ago. This should also work for you.

I'm using the Milkshapetutorial, and have a problem when saving my new table mesh over the original exported .obj file.
I followed the tutorial exactly and my new tutorial table shows up correctly in the game with a new texture and catalog description but still has the old shape.
As I am used to Bodyshop meshes and rigthclicking exporting GMDC with Unimesh 4.09, I went to check my tutorial table in Milkshape that way and yes, it was the old shape. So I redit the part of the tutorial to prepare the mesh for reimporting back in Simpe several times by importing obj in Milkshape, regroup, rename and export as obj but it seems that somehow my original exported obj does ask to be overwritten but after confirmation isn't changing the shape of the mesh.
So I've read all 52 pages of questions and answers here and only one referred to this problem (post 910 from deelo) and I don't really understand what was done here to correct it. It should not be neccesary to rename anything by hand otherwise it would be mentioned in the tutorial??
So I guess it is something simple like a setting in Milkshape, or overwriting the wrong file so I tryed a new table, but must have made the same mistake as again no change.
Could someone please tell me what/were I did something wrong as I simply don't see it.
edit 18-8: I had the regouped mesh overwrite the file table2map and imported that in my tablemesh, and my meshshape is there, but thats not how/what was written in the tutorial. So I still need confirmation that it is OK to do it like that.
edit2 21-8: No, the table is not as it should be, it has all the textures from the original table in it. And an other decorative object mesh I've made is not recolorable. :help: The trouble is that overwriting the original exported .obj is not working/not changing the meshes shape and importing the changed mesh with another name results in strange recolor behaviour.
I did another deco object and this time checked "create stand-alone package" in the clone options, but that didn't made any difference, tryed a Tools-Fix Intregrity-not click update-OK, and that didn't made any change. Read Numenors tutorials about recolorable objects, and still don't know what to do !
Edit 22-8: Did another Tutorial table, this time overwriting the original exported obj did work, and changed the shape of the mesh, but meshed up this time by updating MMAT for all parts. Luckely I've found information how to re-use my guids, thank you Numenor!!!.
By reading all kind of info and tutorials about recolorable objects, thanks Numenor and IgnorantBliss, it turned out the decorative object (sculpture-chinavase) I cloned to make another deco mesh, in itself is not recolorable, missing a designmodeenabled block in the GMND, so I think it is the CEP that made it look like it was recolorable. The fact that several other creators used that china vase object to clone from, made me think it was recolorable, but they must have made it recolorable themselves. And I suppose I am not permitted to clone their object just to have the extra designmodeenabled block in the GMND, or can I ?? :help:
I haven't been able to make my own objects recolorable, as in my Simpe 0.68 everything looks to different from the info/tutorial pictures. :help:
I think I have to find myself another object to clone from that is recolorable, but that has to have the same possibilities as the china vase, at least be placeable on the table and on the floor, and preferable with a nice room score, 1 mesh group, no shadow and from the basegame, so the resulting new mesh will be basegamecompatible. So I found a tutorial to make Simpe only display the basegame objects (thanks again Numenor!!) Found a list of objects to clone from IgnorantBliss, but that doesn't say anything about placement, roomscore interactions or shadows and stuff.
Would somebody please give me some advice??? :alarm:
In case anybody is actually reading this and is walking the same path to make objects, here are some links to usefull info and tutorials I've found on the way.

hello,
now i´m trying to make my own neon light and i´m using neon flamingo, which has orginally five colors, but only the blue one is exported. or i don´t know how to describe it - those who allready used this flamingo light for something probably knows what i´m talking about - there are all of the colors in the pacage, but it shines blue anyway.
so the question is - what do i have to do to make it shine pink or yellow? or any other color. because my last experiment crashed the game (which i´m used to) so i had to do something terrible again with the whole pacage
(i was trying to read numenor´s and jwood´s modding infocenter about lights, but i´m apparently not advanced enough to understand it for now, i´ll try to read it later)

I just have one quick question. If i want to scale the legs down so they aren't as "wide", what axis do I work on? The x-axis? And do I uncheck the others? (under the scale tab) I just don't want to make the table shorter lol, so I thought I'd ask. Any help would be great. :)

hi newsteenfan, may i help you. I'm argentinian so, i can't express all of my ideas in english.
Well, you have to convert the legs to editable poly, and select "edge". Then, select the scale button, and move the gizmo in order to your idea.

The name you see - if I understand correctly - is not very important. However, I strongly suggest to follow the tutorial exactly, at least the first time; go back a couple of pages, where the tutorial explains about the Scenegraph Rename Wizard: I think you have missed that point.

I've seen some mention of this, but is it possible to use other 3d modeling software to make objects? I have 3DS Max AND Rhinoceros and I'm a bit hesitant to install yet another piece of 3d modeling software if I don't have to. It doesn't seem that sim pe recognizes these file types. Or is there a file type that I could export to that sim pe can recognize?

Hi all there, I am working on new mesh of curtains, I follow this great tutorial, all is ok, but I am not able to make good texture - I mean this : in front view all is ok, but from back view there is nothing visible. I'm using Blender3D, and this I see when I set "textured" view in "objects mode", and then in game it's the same. I do some mistake, but don't know, where, so, is here anybody, who can help me ? Thank you very much
Oh, and I must say - no changes of texture value I've made in SimPE, this I'm planning after I'll fix this first problem.
I am new in meshing, so thanks for patience

Hi, I wasn´t able to place it here earlier ... so, I´ve made similiar mesh to the one I've talked about before - I´ve used the same way to make it. So, if you'll be able take some time to look at it and help me fix it, I´ll be happy !
I´ve tested the package file in game and all is ok, only one side visibility is bad :( . The link to file is
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SIWN3AD1 - I´ve placed there only mesh, no package, I mean I did any mistake in Blender, no in making package file. The curtain mesh is from two parts - the texture of the box isn't also visible on all sides. Thank you and see you soon !

GAH! Help! Where can I get a "mesh exporter"? SimPE says I don't have one!
Numenor
17th Feb 2009, 09:34 PM
In order to export the mesh you have to select the GMDC and click the button "Export..."; SimPE comes with several built-in exporters (when you click "Export", a window will open up, allowing you to choose the file format and the filename).
Perhaps you have to reinstall SimPE, and be sure that all the components are checked.
Exactly, when simPe says you don't have a mesh exporter?

While importing the new mesh you should see this window:
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/5062/pic1xu5.png
(the mesh names will be different of course, this is just an example).
Use the selector marked in red to choose the "Replace" option, and the green selector to select the mesh that you want to replace.
You must modify the selectors for EACH mesh listed on the left: when finished, you should read in the "Action" column (on the left) only "Replace", and no "Add".

Hi, I just started importing the file to wings3d. I tried following the tutorial but then I realized that on my wings3d program, all the options on the top bar are in cube form and in the tutorial they are all in pyramid form. Does this affect the tutorial in any way and how do I change it to pyramids?

Thank you for this great tutorial. My table works fine in game I only messed up the texture of the tabletop. The wood texture was supposed to go in another direction.I'll try to post a pic here of the table. It's not much to look at but I want to show it :)

Hey! first i have to say thanks for this really good tutorial before i sharing my confusement. It was very easy to follow and it had a good way to make me understand what i did. :)
So, now my problem: i have some years experience with 3D modeling in my spare time, but im new to Sims2 modding. I decided to try it out and made a quick model and simple texture, but instead of making a table, i made a desk. (i used the Wings3D tutorial but modeled with Sketchup because i'm most used to that) After modeling i used all the other tools i was supposed to use, Wings3D too in the grouping and exporting part, and everything was done as should be done. but, when i imported to SimPe some of the faces were missing, i think some of the faces have been inverted or something, so they shows the inside faces which is basicly invisible in most 3D programs, but i dont know for sure, thats why i'm here to find a solution. Anyways, in all programs i opened the faces were normal and having their outside faces out... :help:
i know posts like this comes all the time, so sorry if i'm bothering u guys. :(
and here are some views you may could see my problem, hope this thread arent dead yet.
EDIT: I found something that may clear up a little, when I open the OBJ file exported from Wings3D into UVMapper it comes a warning that says: "The model you have loaded contains out of range UV coordinate data" and ask me if i want to correct this. Then when i press yes/ no it seems like some faces are gone. It's like UVMapper dont want to read them so it deletes them instead... i guess thats the reason why the faces are gone/ invisible in SimPe and Sims2... D'oh :faceslap:
So, now i have to wait for someone to help me to solve this if i dont figure it out by myself.
Finally solved it!
the problem was in my Sketchup exporter, i forgot to export with triangles, not weird the UVMapper didn't like my model. Anyways, gotta thank JWoods a lot for this tutorial once again! My model works like it should, but looks poor since i didn't use real textures.
Just one more question/ problem to solve before i can stand on my own feets: When the model are showing in-game it's really "Smoothed", and that doesnt look so nice, there's smoothing lines all over it and i dont know how to fix that. Anyone who knows how to make it "flat" like all Original Maxis models are? :wtf:

Hey! Your turtorial is great and very simple. Its been a great help so far, but I just have one question. I'm trying to create a desk instead of a table, using your tutorial. It's just supposed to take up one square in game to leave more room for other stuff. I'm sure its been done before. Anyway, When I got rid of the extra part of the table, the mesh came up broken. How do you make a thing to cover the whole in the meshes?

psych, You didn't give the object new GUID's, which replaced the original instead. Read over the tutorial, You'll see the part in SimPe where it goes into Object Data.
TOW, There are a few ways. You can use a ''Plane'' to cover up the area, or you can join together vertexes to cover it over. Usually people delete some of the middle part, then join the two outer sides. :)

Hello.. I have been using your tutorial to replace the scalpel in my game with a cute pencil, and so far everythings been great, your tutorial was very helpful, but in part two I'm a bit confused. You said to click the object data, the main object data file, and maybe it is because I am not making a mesh for a table, but I can't seem to find the object data file. Is this normal for scalpels, and I should just skip this step? I wanted to check because you said to follow your tutorial exactly. Thank you so very much, -kyra.

How do you make an item Base Game compatible?
Is it dependent on what you clone?
If not, please explain.
I have been making meshes for a while and honestly never gave this much thought, unfortunately, but I have a request for an item the must be BG compatible.
Thanks

In order to create a basegame-compatible clone, start SimPe, go to Extra -> Preferences -> File Table and deactivate all the expansions and stuff packs. Then click OK and RESTART SimPE. Now your clone will be really base-game compatible :)

Dj Music

I don't think there's tutorials as such which will teach you about making beds/counters etc. as you've learned the basic editing and meshing techniques required to make just about any object mesh.
However, Just do some searchs around the Object Meshing boards and posts, and you'll find some very useful information. Such as that if you edit Maxis Bedding, animations on the bed will go funny etc.
Numenor has a template if you want to try a counter in one of his ''Articles''. If you want to even just look at the package and it's make-up, that will help you learn more about it. :)

It looks like you have invisible faces or there facing inward. If your using Milkshape I think by selecting the object, and aligning normals the faces will point outward. In Wings the closest I've found for normals is selecting the faces, right click material, assign default. Not a clue about Blender.

The type of map you use will depend on the shape. Box, plane, cylinder, sphere, etc, each mapping technique corresponds with the shape of your object. Look at other tutorials in this forum, there are several for different examples of uvmapping. There is one for Milkshape, Lithunwrap, Wings, and one by Numenor for UV Mapper Classic.

I thought it had something to do with the unimesh plug in but I think it was the tutorial needs some updating... object making Start to Finish
it never mentions to set defaults or to uncheck "reference original mesh"
it only says uncheck "change description"
but the unchecking the first one made the files appear on the save screen so I think it will work now. I did uncheck both. I am working on the talking table tutorial to be specific.
I have saved the file but my simpe doesnt look anything like the windows in the tutorial.
there is no "type- group- instance- offset" window... just the resource tree to the right of the screen I highlight or click on the GMDC but nothing else loads. am I missing something? should I try and reload the saved file?
it says object is saved and loaded on a screen that says "previous, a greyed out next and start over" the tutorial says to click on the cataloge describtion but I cant there isnt a window for it.
you have to manualy make sure your in the object workshop and select from the windows menu resource list... ah ha... there it is at the bottom next to the object workshop appears a new tab, click list. now they are selectable.
all went well from there until....
further in the tutorial while in milkshape it says select groups tab then select "Box01" mine says "Box13" but it works the same.
given all the differences I am opting to write them down.. as I go.. it might be useful later if anyone wants it.
I got thru it and completed my ugly table. the most issues were in simpe and one or two in milkshape. but I just kept fiddling until I got them working
the texturing didnt look so hot because I am using GIMP and I have had it for years and never really learned how to work most of it.
anyone know a good sims2 tutorial on Gimp? and whats next? I still want to learn about more intricate designs and animation...

If you need a more updated object creation tutorial with screenshots that fit the current versions I have one on my site (link in my signature). It has a short section on MilkShape, too. (Actually I should probably see if I can upload it here, too).
As for moving on to animation and other stuff, why don't you check out the other tutorials in the meshing and modding sections here. Otherwise practising and messing around in MilkShape and your graphics program is really the best way to learn how to do more intricate designs. Sometimes taking an object that you really like, and opening up the package to see how the creator made it can also teach you a lot.

I must say I really liked blender better.. I have horible eyesite and extremly poor depth perseption. so blenders larger one screen with massive ability to zoom helped. I am wondering If it might be easier to make the sculpter in blender and then export/import it to milkshape for the rest. I could do a table by itself in blender but I thought it might be nice to add some custom table interactions with the finished product. I just want to be sumwhat knowledgeable with the basics of milkshape, UVmapping and Gimp befor moving to animation. I am sure the clothing tutorials can help me with Gimp though I am not really interested in that part of it. hair could be fun.

Hi i created a tabled using simPe and blender and when my sims put plates or anything on it the objects are floating over the table. Why would that be happening?
moune999
13th Apr 2010, 07:19 AM
Because your table is too low. You either have to raise the tabletop (a dining table top has to be at 0.8 on the Y axis) or change the placement slots. The easiest thing is definitely to adjust the height of the mesh. You can use the original mesh from the table you cloned to see exactly how high it should be.

Now when I want to search for the table, the game ends with: error occured, shutting the sims 2 down press yes. The game's closing. When I remove my table from the downloadlist, the sims is working again.
What is wrong here? Does somebody got the answer? Please help because I'm doing this for days now and it isn't working for me :(
Thanks!

It being invisible was most likely because the textures weren't linked right. After you changed the name- there were most likely other places it would need changed, which would cause your game to crash with the table in it.
Could you post the .package so someone can look at it for you? (You need to archive it with WinRAR or a similar program to be able to attach it to your post.)

Here is my zipfile. I added the texture with it. I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here..... hm.... when you found it, please tell me what was wrong so I can check this part better with a new mesh etc.

OK- some of your table I would know how to fix. There is no TXMT for the table, just the shadow. That could be fixed by cloning the existing TXMT and editing it. There is no MMAT for the table- which would be needed if you wanted it to be recolorable. The only TXTR is for the shadow. The texture you included in the zip is a .jpeg- textures need to be in .png format. The shadow TXTR could be cloned and edited with your table's texture. What table did you clone? The tutorial used the Talking Table, I think, and it's name is tabledining, not surfaces.
However, I got an error in SimPE- there is no Parent CRES. That I don't know how to fix, I've never ran across that error.
You COULD post your table in the Object Repair thread. In this case, I think the easiest thing to do would be to start over with brand new .package. Be sure to not delete any of the TXMT, MMAT or TXTRs - follow the tutorial carefully and take your time. If you run into any problem with any step, post and someone will help. :)

I did the tutorial all over again and found this problem:
1: my table is showing now but it's lying down, the topplate is now the frontside of the table. I put my mesh the same as the clonefile that I loaded in my 3D Max program. Also the table isn't on the right place with the boxes of the game, the 'place-box-things';
2: my texture isn't showing on the table, only the texture of the Talking Table itself;
3: the original Talking Table isn't showing anymore in the game when I click it;
4: I made a .simpe file of my obj like the tutorials tell me too but my table isn't showing proper.
Hopefully you know what to do about this, sorry for bothering you with this. Thanks again!

1. I think that has to do with the xyz order in SimPE. There is a drop-down box right in the GMDC, right under the boxes to import and export a mesh. The 'place-box-things'- your table isn't in the footprint properly. Try re-importing your mesh and changing the xzy order. (Before you commit, change it before you even import the mesh.) If your table is upright but still not in the footprint, it got moved somehow while you were meshing it.
2. Your texture - see 3.
3. Did you get a new GUID for your table? The original table isn't showing- that's most likely why. You didn't get a new GUID for yours and it's over-writing the Maxis table. When you do that, your texture should show.
4. .simpe file? The mesh you create and import should be in .obj format* and when you save (after all your changes to the clone) it needs to be in .package format- which it must be or you wouldn't see it in game.
*You use 3D Max, which I'm not familiar with at all. I think there are other formats you can import, like .3ds.
BTW- You're not bothering anyone. This is what this thread is for- questions. If you try the changes I suggested and your table still doesn't work right, post it in the Object Repair Workshop thread. You're a lot closer to having a working table this time than you were with the table I looked at. :)

I have now realised the wrong ive done, i can do the tutorial, until it comes to Uvmapping. I have the latest version of everyting used, and it says make 2 UV maps one for the tabke top and one for the legs. And then rei-mport into Wings3D combine the whole mesh, rename it to tabledining, export the mesh, open in UV mapper, save the model, and then import to SimPE. I realised simpe picks up two different obj.'s because it has two different UVmaps. Is there a way to combine them?

Hi I'm using the version 2.1 tutorial, and I follow all steps but when I go to the object it's just colored the mesh doesn't show; do you know what I am doing wrong? (Sorry if this was already posted, there are 57 pages and I have a short attention span lol)
I did the tutorial twice and both times the mesh didn't show. I also didn't use wood I used pictures, and on "Importing your texture file" step, when I put the picture on it gets cut off and so the picture repeats itself on the table, do you know what I can do to fix that as well?
Thank you so much :)

Because my internet explorer isn't working, I am unable to register the GUID. Is there any other way for me to do this?

I don't think SimPE needs Internet Explorer to register a GUID, so you could do it that way. The function 'Get GUID' is in the OBJD.
If it's because you can't connect to the internet at all, what you can do is find the last GUID you used and then use the next number up. When you get back online you can enter the GUID manually at the database.

Thank you for responding! I forgot to update last night but, for some reason, I did need internet explorer working to get the GUID. I was only able to use firefox on my computer for a while. I just restored IE to factory settings and it worked fine but, in case I have that problem again, and it's not IE, I know how to work around it. Thank you so much!

I am having a problem with a step that is fairly early in the process of creating the dining table in this tutorial. It is on page 9 of part 1 the Milkshape tutorial. The tutorial says that a “Geometric Data Container” file should show up in the resource list but I can't find it. I have tried starting over three times and I checked to make sure I didn't miss anything but it still does not show up when I get done cloning the table. Am I missing something?
Any help provided is much appreciated.
*Update*
I figured it out! I had the "reference original mesh" box checked for some reason. But now that I have fixed that it is working just fine.

hello, so if this question was already asked, i went through 11 pages and nobody had asked and i really didn't want to read every post in the other 46 pages.
Well firstly, thank you so much, it was my first 3d creation. But I do have a question. The Talking Table, the Maxis item we cloned, no longer works in my game although the table I created does. The Talking Table shows up in the catalog with the thumbnail image, price, and description. But if I click it to try and buy it and place it nothing happens. Is this supposed to happen? If not, what can I do to fix it?

Hi, FallingAwayFromMe. :)
Make sure each of your custom table's OBDJs have a different, non-EA GUID. Every GUID must be unique and it cannot be a GUID belonging to an EA object (such as the Talk Table) since you are not making a default replacement.
(Also make sure that any previous attempts are not in your Downloads folder...I can't tell you how many times I accidentally left an older version or a back-up version of an object in my Downloads folder.)

I fallowed this tutorial many times and always end up with the same problem... A floating table, the legs doesn't show up in the game; I can't get the legs and the table top combine with Wings3D. Even if I do combine them they don't stay together therefore when I import my mesh into SimPE I have two mesh into the ''Mesh Group Importer'' window. I tried to get that fix it myself, but it just doesn't want to stay as one.
Is there someone that is still around that could help me?

Hi,
I'm trying to go through this tutorial and it's very well written. But one ugly problem: since I'm using the newest SimPE version, the buttons aren't always were they are in the tutorial screen shots, so I always spend some time searching.
I got as far as finding the right table and saving it as dining-table-tutorial, then clicking on the "Geometric Data Container (GMDC)" file.
Now according to the tutorial (page 9), there should be another window, "Type" where I should highlight "Geometric Data Container again". Only there's no "Type window. I spend 45 minutes opening every possible window, trying some of the little icons, checking the windows again, checking the tutorial, repeating the last steps of the tutorial to make sure I didn't miss anything ... nothing.
And it's probably a tiny thing like "open menu XY". I hope someone will help me, it's just too frustrating because I really want to learn this.

And then perhaps you can help me with my issue once you get to that part lol. :)
OK the window you want should be right where it is in the tut.

Hi Grangerpup,

Yes it should. It just isnt'!
I know there should be a window saying "Resource List", and what it should look like. It just isn't there. Screen shot:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v336/fourth_moon/modthesims/Troubleshooting2.jpg
If you look at the icon bars at the bottom where all the other windows are shown (for Plugin View, Ojbect Workshop, Finder etc.), there's no tab or icon for "Resource Tree" there.
I tried checking "Resource Tree" in the "Windows" drop-down menu (top of SimPE), and I can check and uncheck it, but it still doesn't turn up either with the other icons or as a window.
So what I need to know is: how in heck to I get the "Resource List" Window to be visible so I can use it? Is this a bug? Known problem?

This tutorial is great, and I've managed the table with few problems. However, I can't seem to adapt it to create paintings as I'm very new to modding/meshing etc. Is there a way to use this tutorial to create paintings? I want to create a new one rather than re-colour an existing one.
Thanks!

I'm having a bit of trouble with the export obj. file part. I tried to export it as the Blender tut says but I have ver 2.62 so everything looks way different. When I exported it, it saved it 250 times in the designated folder and will not come up in Sim PE. When I imported one of the files back into Blender, there was an extra cube and cylinder that shouldn't have been there. Help Please!
EDIT: okay I fixed that part ^^ but when I tried importing into SimPE I got an error. When I looked the error up, it said I had to convert the obj file using UV Mapper. Anyone know how to convert a obj file with a negative index to a positive index using UV Mapper?

Thanks to all the gifted people here on this site who dedicates time and energy to help people like me have a smooth go in learning different things on this site. I am quite stumped on this one. I have cloned this table a lot and I am not understanding why the table top will not show up in the game. Could someone please help me.
I need some assistance on cloning the talking table. I follow everything to a tee. Then when I go into the game to view it I see only table legs. I have done this creation over and over about 5 times and I am missing the table top. What do you think I am doing wrong? I use Wings 3D; update SimPe for Mansion and Gardens and Apartment Life.

?? Graciouse... Here are a couple of ideas. I don't know if they are valid in your case but they do happen to other creators from time to time.
Do you have too many group names when you imported the mesh back into the package? After you make your new parts, and map them, you need to make sure you regroup your parts into the original group names before you import them into your package......
or,... maybe your polygons are reversed? The texture can only be applied to the 'front' face. Looking at the faces from the backside will be invisible. You can check that in game by looking at the bottom of the table and going inside the table if your camera will let you. If you can see the insides of the table but not the outsides, then your faces are reversed.

nice tutorial
I have been searching a lot of these and this one is very detailed
but is there one that does NOT start with clone an object from the game?
I mean like start from scratch with a complete imported 3D shape in milkshape , how do we get to game item from that?

The same way. You still need to clone a game object and swap out it's mesh/textures for yours.
