Dead elders freeze my game

i tried to find an answer to my problem in the former threads without finding anything... so i'm sorry if i missed something.
Anyway, my problem happened several times: when an elder dies, i can't quit my game anymore. I click on the "..." button, and the three icons (save, neighborhood & quit) are not available.... so ever time i lose what i did without being able to save.
Is there something i can do to change that? Is someone else has ever had the same problem?

Is your game patched? This was a problem of the original game, but they fixed it in the patch.

My game is patched, and I've had the same problem before. Is there another reason this could be happening besides the patch issue?

I thought that with the dvd version of the game i didn't need the patch... So obviously i need it all the same....
