View Full Version : Can Playable Sims Move Into Dorms When Move-In Option Appears?

O.K., I did search both here and in the "answered" forum and found a couple of references to the fact that the move-in option was never available in dorms. However, before I installed OFB I was using a hack that allowed move-ins to happen in dorms. I unfortunately lost all my families and lots and have been trying to recreate the relationships I had before. I sent Stella to college, she was in a dorm, and I had Matthew from the Greek house fall in love with her and then he moved in. Now I can click on the option, but it just drops out before the action can occur. I guess a hack made this happen, but I don't know which one. I thought maybe it was the InSiminator, but I have put in the updated version and still the action icon drops before it happens. Anyone have any ideas about which hack may have made this work?
Any and all help greatly appreciated!

The only way to find out is to disable your hacks using the clean pack installer. People won't really be able to tell you which particular hack is causing the problem as sometimes combinations of hacks can conflict. Make sure all of your hacks are up to date.

Yes, I had used Clean Installer to move all my hacks to a separate file. I moved out the file, but the action still drops. But, let me just get this straight, is another sim supposed to be able to move into another sim's dorm if the relationship is high enough?

Yes, it should be just like moving any sim into any family. A 'dormie' (Maxis sim) will automatically move out to make room for the new sim.

Actually, I was able to 'combine households' in one of my university dorms with a newly created Sim with a pair that are seniors without any issues.

Yes, I can combine also. I'm talking about a sim from another household moving in to the current household being played. I get the option to "Propose...Move In", but then it just drops out.

I think it is a bug since NL ...

In one of my dorms, even if not all rooms are filled, and my sim still can't propose to move in ... The command to propse to move-in will be cancelled automatically ...

The only solution that I have is to change the lot zoning to residential, and then the option to propose to move-in will again function normally ...

Bug since NL? I was able to do it before I installed OFB... I am going to try a different lot to make sure the lot I'm playing isn't buggy.

O.K., really getting confused now. KKai, your saying that you were able to move "playable" sims into dorms when the "move-in" option appeared, before NL, but after NL it didn't work? I've got a help thread going over at the BBS where someone is telling me that it was never an option for playable sims to be able to move-in to a dorm when asked--that the action will automatically drop. And I've got EA Support answering my same query as tho' this should be possible (who knows if they are actually reading it tho'--LOL).
But I know that I had Stella and Mathew (a playable from the Greek House) fall in love and then Stella asked and he moved into her dorm and became playable there. Now he won't.
I thought I had a hack that was making this happen, which I thought was Insiminator.

I guess what I need to know is: Is this action even possible in the game with no hacks or cheats?

It should be possible to move any playable or non-playable sim into a dorm with you if the relationship is high enough. Try again with all of your hacks and custom content removed, and all cheats disabled.
