Does anyone else here actually end all of the other processes before they play? Do you see an improvement? Also, what else does windowed mode change, other than the edge scrolling thing that I turn off anyway? I've been losing long tracks of time to this game... I need to be able to see the clock.

I end alot of background and unnessary programs in my task manager/ processes and have an 99% improvement in running my sims2/Nightlife/University/Open for Business. However, I haven't ran my game in widowed mode since Sims 1 and and fixed that when I added more memory. So I am unable to answer your second ??.

Windowed mode will allow you to switch windows back and forth without a huge lag - I wouldn't play my game any other way. It allows me to keep up a couple small programs (like XChat and Trillian) so I can still talk to people while I have the game up, but ending processes of everything else that I don't need at the time DEFINITELY improves performance.
For some reason for me, running windowed also improves my game performance. I was getting a lot of graphics driver overloads and crashes before I started running windowed 100% of the time.
