View Full Version : Is it possible to make an object for two seperate functions?

I was thinking about learning to create objects, because one object I'd really like to see is a modern japanese toilet. They have a sink on the top of the toilet tank for you to wash your hands. I didn't want to spend weeks learning all of this only to find out it wouldn't even be possible.

So, my probably horrible question, but I skimmed the guides and didn't find it.....

Is it possible to make an object do both the toilet and sink functions with seperate animations? Or should I not even bother?

Just an idea in case this isn't possible: You might be able to make two objects, which, when placed together, LOOK like one object.

I would imagine it to be possible. You could have one set of functions for toilet use and another set of functions for sink use. You would probably want to have two different means of making the Sim come to the object, depending on its intended use for the object (i.e. have the Sim approach the object from one direction for toilet use and another for sink use). Otherwise, a Sim might stand in the toilet part of the object to wash his/her hands at the sink. I agree with gonkski222 that the easiest way might just be to have a sink and toilet and simply place one over the other.

So theoretically it is possible to somehow make the object.... Better get to learning how to do this stuff. ^-^ Thanks.

if you look at some of the stuff in the Grand Trianon collection (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=76172), you'll see that it is very much possible, but it's also of the kind of complexity that only people like Numenor can pull it off. It hasn't been done much since.
Not to discourage you, but i'll be honest here: you'll need colouring, meshing, basic animation, bhav-skillzzzzzzz and possibly routing techniques to make this into one object.
I you take the suggestions above and make two seperate objects that fit together, you'll need all those, without the routing :D
I suggest you start by trying your hand at some recolours (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=102356).
Then you can go on to making simple objects (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=104795), learn about basic animation (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=86295) and only then should you start fiddling with placement bhavs to fit the two objects together.
Good luck :)
