I've looked through all the FAQ's about this issue but my question was actually formed while reading a FAQ regarding installing patches that was a bit confusing to me.

Here's a quote from the specific FAQ:

Why do I need to patch every single expansion or stuff pack? Is it not enough to just patch the most recent release?

A: You need to patch all releases because every new expansion is added on top of the older expansions, but it still requires the other releases. For example, Open for Business is a newer release than University, but you do not get access to the University features unless the Uni expansion pack is also installed. The game uses the files for all expansion packs or stuff packs you have installed, and therefore you need to make sure all of them are running on the latest version by installing the patches.

I'm confused by this. Maybe it's just me being tired but here's my question.

Is it necessary to repatch ALL EP's after installing a new EP??

The answer to the FAQ makes it sound like installing each new EP will overwrite all of the previously installed EP's and it's respective patch. Am I reading this correctly??

Based on my interpretation, here's what I'd do when I buy the next EP (Open for Business) that I don't have yet:

- I currently have the base Sims2 game installed, University and Night Life. All of the patches for these games are also installed (or so I think).

- Soon I'll buy Open For Business. After installing OFB, I'm going to redownload and install the patches for the base Sims 2 game, University and Night Life. Lastly I'll get the patch for OFB and install that.

- In the future when I buy Pets and Seasons, after installing each of those I'll have to reinstall all previous EP patches as well.

Is this correct?? Do we really have to reinstall ALL EP patches after each EP install??

Sorry, if I may sound like a complete idiot here but the answer to the FAQ is a bit confusing.

Thanks for any clarification in advance

You need to patch all EP's when you install them.
So if you uninstall everything, you need to install the base game, then install the base game patch. Then you install uni and after that the uni patch.
Is it necessary to repatch ALL EP's after installing a new EP??The answer is No. You only need to patch the EP you install, if there is a patch for it.

Thanks for the quick response Angel !!

Okay, I think I may have a problem (missing patches). When I installed the base game, Uni and Night Life, I installed each game (EP) back to back. I then downloaded the NL patch. I did'nt download the base Sims 2 patch or Uni. This was based on some apparently "Bad" information I got from another Sims 2 site. I was told that each EP install included the patches for previous versions.

This quote was from the same FAQ I referenced in my first post:

I have two or more expansion or stuff packs. Which patch do I install?

A: Install the patches for all expansions/stuff packs you own. It does not matter in which order you do this.

I'm reading this to say that I can install the patches for the EP's in any order, even if the EP's are already installed. Is that correct ??

Or......

Do I need to uninstall Uni and NightLife, install the patch for the base game, install Uni, install the Uni patch, install NL and then finally install the NL patch??

The above quote from the FAQ kind of differs from what your post said.

Here's the way I do it, and have never had any problem.
Download all the patches for the game(s) you have installed. Then install each patch in order ex:Base, Uni, NL, OF etc.. If the installer says you are up to date, move on the the next patch. That is the only way you will be 100% sure that all of your games are patched. :)
