Has cheating become part of your Sims game, or do you not cheat and play the game as intended?

My Answer (ATF 6)
Ever since The Sims (1) I have cheated, I just can't help it. I hate having to wait ages and ages getting money for my Sims to live on, and with the Sims 2, having to worry about bills. That part of life I live through so I don't like my Sims living that way. I also hate babies, I always use the inSim to grow them up, It just bores me having to look after babies day in day out, and I will face that in the future just not in my game.

Me too... I always cheat.. It makes the game easier for me, it's almost like CC... I can't play without it!

I use the occasional maxmotives, and for contest lots i motherlode them silly. General gameplay they earn their own money.

I use testingcheats whenever the game irks me in any way. Is so universally useful.

I try to play with as less cheats as possible. Buildingcheats excluded, they are just buildingfeatures we do need.

Of course I cheat a lot with lots and sims for pictures and movies etc. But I got a special neighbourhood for that too. It doesn't even have real houses, more sets. I do have InSim installed, though. So I can cheat whatever I want when necessary.

but for my legacy family, the only one I play, I use the occasional kaching (because you do need some furniture in a starter-house) and maxMotives. Sometimes aspirationLevel cheat, too.. but that is about it and I try to only do it when things get out of hand.

I try not to cheat whatsoever in any family I play seriously. If I do I feel too guilty to continue playing them. There are exceptions, but that's generally how it goes.

Except building cheats and stuff like that, of course. Still, I feel too guilty to even download Perfect Flowers even though it hinders me in designing gardens.. sigh..

i use cheats unwillingly.. the odd kaching and maxmotives
- gamplay is too boring when you don't have a goal to work towards (mine's usually money) - but then again, i find the richest downtownie to marry and have babies. thats kind of a cheat.

oh wells

oh and i always age babies to toddlers as soon as they're born. babies are borring and hassel.

I cheat as little as possible.

I used to give college graduates a ton of money, but I'm going to download the No20KHandouts or whatever so I don't have to.
But I also use the building cheats - which don't realy count as appelsapgodin said already.

Using hacks - I cheat at a majour event. Birth, marriage, birthday. I max motives with InSIM at those points.
I skip baby stage; static toddler's motives at full green so I don't have to worry about them; and randomize skills once the kids are toddlers. People are born naturally talented, why not?

i use boolprop to pull up certain moods sometimes. i don't cheat for money unless i feel like a sim just HAS to have something, but something big like a community lot. i don't use max motives because i find i get bored when i'm just watching my sims skill. having to get my sims motives up on my own makes the game a little more interesting for me.

Wasn't this just on the BBS ;)?

I give my sims enough money for a moderately nice, liveable house and enough in their pockets to buy groceries and garden seeds, but that's where the cheating stops. The game loses its challenge for me if my sims' needs are constantly fulfilled and if they reproduce at the speed of light. My enjoyment of TS2 lies within the generational, family aspect, and excessive cheating doesn't allow me to experience that.

i do that too sometimes.

also, i give a skill point each time homework is completed
and maybe more when an A+ report card is achieved.

i hate the way a sim doesn't benefit at all whilst being in school.
no skill points, nothing.

I learned the cheats, and now I can't play the game without them. I think that when TS3 comes out, I will hold off even looking at the cheats until I absolutely have to.

I used to cheat a lot more, I would have my sims' motives maxed out all the time, but it got very boring. Now I only use maxmotives when they have a guest over who I want them to socialize with for a longer time without having to worry about the guest's needs. I use money cheats a lot still because I like to have families with different class demographics, and to properly furnish their homes sometimes.

I use allow45DegreeAngleOfRotation - but that's it. I'v never used maxmotives, or gave them extra money. If my people would be rich from the start and always on the green, I probably wouldn't play, where's the fun in easy life.

I keep boolprop on because I get bored with chatting, chatting, chatting to get a relationship meter up, and because my pregnant sims have a habit of getting their most important motives depleted (the kind of depletion that leads to death!). I have also been abusing inSIM since I got it (embarrassingly recently), most notably to completely skip the baby stage. Babies are so boring! Bring on the toddlers.

Oh, and to go over the family limit. I'm not even sure if it came with insim or what, but my current favorite household has twelve members, with a thirteenth on the way.

I hate having more than 2 sims on a lot, so I don't bother with anything that will increase that. Otherwise I use cheats to fix mistakes I made or to facilitate something I am doing. If I need my new family to be living in the 750,000 castle I just built, they get enough money to move straight into it. If I am watching relationship scores, they get maxmotives every couple of hours so I don't need to keep track of motives. (My newest family hasn't eaten or slept in over a week.) And I have aging off almost all the time unless I have a baby or a child who doesn't have an A+ report card yet.

(Although I just discovered a purpose in the baby stage: Have parents invite guests in, then leave them alone near the baby. When the baby becomes a toddler they are either friends or close to becoming friends with anybody who has spent much time with them. And a toddler with influence to burn is fun! As I mentioned in another thread, I was able to have a toddler get revenge on his nanny for being incompetant. He used influence to have Kennedy Cox fight the nanny!)

I think I am probably going to be cheating to give toddlers more influence in the future.

I used to cheat like heck when I first got the game, especially with money cheats, but now I rarely use cheats. I use maxmotives if my simmies are highly involved in an activity I want them to continue, and of course I have the Imsim and Monique's motive painting (because I cannot live without them). I rarely if ever use money cheats now because I've found that there are more than enough money making activities in the game... even to the point of not sending sims to university anymore because I feel they make too much money!

The only cheat I use pretty much all the time is for money, primarily because ever since I got Nightlife, none of my Sims have had jobs anymore. Why sit and stare at their empty house waiting for them to come home when I can watch them cause drama at a club/park/bowling alley? I enjoy the game a lot more when they're always where I can see them, so they all earn their money through cheats and the occasional painting.

I've occasionally used Insim to boost motives, but only when they'll die if I don't. I like trying to pull them out of red motives myself, so that only happens for extreme emergencies. The only other cheat I use often is moveobjects for stupid stuck things.

I usually go through periods of no cheating at all, and then going a little crazy with the cheating. When I get a new ep, I usually spend a lot of time without cheating, trying to figure out what the new features are and and waiting for hacks to be updated. Then, I'll go through a period where I am sick of taking care of the sims motives so I keep raising them with maxmotives so I can have them spend time doing activities that I want instead of sleeping.

At the beginning of a new neighborhood there is some cheating to set things off the way I want, but once people are settled into their homes and I've got all the families in the right place, I usually stop cheating often. I use it as a tool to mold the game but usually not in place of playing out certain features.

I have to agree. Waiting for my sims to make money is just bores me to tears. If I play the game as intended my sim would be poor until they die.. They can never seem to get a break from something always taking their money so I have a hacked computer where they can write the novel faster and another hacked computer where they can work from home writing articles and gain skills at the same time or I can use the other hacked computer and get all their skill within a day. Maxmotives have become part of my game play as I just can't sit and watch and wait for them to spend hours and hours filling their motives and not get the important stuff done. Or I can send them to this hacked shower that fills their motives and mood full. As far as babies, it doesn't bother me to deal with them.. It's the other mundane stuff that really gets on my nerves.

I use mam motives occasinally when my sims get up late for work and i want them to get a promotion, but I don't use motherlode as much as I used to.

I do cheat. The main cheat is the no aging. Some family age and some don`t. As a result I do not use the aspiration points much although I do use the elixir in some families.

Other than that, a little else. I adjust their motives occasionally, mainly to bring it down so they can do things. Like talk on the phones with their friends for more than a few seconds etc.

I use the motherlode cheat quite a bit and Insim to keep motives hig, mainly like fun, for kids to do their homework. The money is mainly for some of the cool houses I download fully furnished that I want a certain sim to move into. Otherwise, that's it.

I play with only a few cheats. The occasional maxmotives is useful, like others have said, and I also use cheats to place things at an angle or off the grid. When I had the inSim (stupid Hobbies), I would use it to summon someone to the lot who I wanted my sim to meet, and I almost always use some kind of hacked object to buy clothes, as I hate having to send my sims to a community lot to shop. Still, I rarely use any money cheats, and I do most of the other things normally!

I used to use motherlode all the time, but I realized it wasn't as fun. Playing the legacy challenge made me realize I don't really need to cheat.

I don't want to come across as holier-than-thou - one time or another I've used every cheat possible, money, motives, relationships, etc.

But I've found that gameplay/sims life becomes pretty boring after a while if I don't have to struggle for a bit. I wouldn't really know what to do with my sims if they had perfect lives without needing jobs or no motive decay.

The only times I still cheat is for motives on community lots (I've got looong loading times because my computer is kind of old, so I don't want to leave after playing there for 10 minutes after I've waited 10 minutes for the lot to load). Or I use the Summoner if I want my sim to meet a certain someone that they haven't met naturally after a few days

I don't use any cheats like that(motherlode, kaching, maxMotives) very often at least, I ONLY play a legacy in my game now days because I really don't have the time to jump from 1 house to another, the only time/cheat I've used to any extent recently was the maxMotives cheat when I fell asleep and woke up to see my founder near death.

I always cheat, depending on what I'm aiming at during gameplay. Sometimes I just like to build so I use a lot motherlode and buildign cheats, if I'm playing for relationships or other things, then I use maxmotives a lot. i actually live with cheats, i play the game 95% of the time with cheats, but that is cause of the movie making, it would be strange if you need to play for like 5 sim weeks to be able to buy that housethat you use for the 5 second shot in th movie.
and boolprop is put in my startup file. so my game is always i n debug mode, but for those 5% i'm not cheating, at least barelly

I barely ever 'cheat'. I never use moneycheats or maxmotives, I've only used boolprop a couple of times when a Sim got stuck. I do use some hacks that make gameplay more enjoyable, not easier, like the coffeecuphack. It just seems stupid to me when a Sim has a perfectly good counter right next to them, but they will go three stairs up to put the cup on an empty endtable.

I don't think I've had a single sim who's actually earned their money from scratch. xD I motherlode like hell, baby.
I've been using max motives a lot more recently, though -- I really ought to stop that. Meh.

I'm not a builder, so I never use building cheats, and I stay far away from the boolprops as well. Well, except for boolprop snapobjectstogrid false. I abuse that. And I'll occasionally speed up a sim's pregnancy via the Tombstone of Life and Death.

But other than that, I'm clean. :p

Edit: Oh, and I use moveobjects allll the time. How can you not? xD I didn't even count that as a cheat, since I use it so frequently.

I usually cheat for money, I like to furnsih there homes with different styles and give them like a "class" as in like rich socialites and a poorer class which the rich look down there noses at. I max there motives sometimes, like if I want them to build a skill or socialise. Sometimes, I max their motives befor work or school, just so there not dying when they get outta the car or bus! I've moved away from using money and motive cheats as I've got better at playing the game.

I use building 'cheats' but don't consider them as something which effects the sims life one way or the other.

I tend to use maxmotives at community lots, for loading reasons mentioned earlier.

I use kaching if I've moved a sim out of one house and into another, and their total family funds is not what it was prior to the move.

I've stopped using motherlode for most families as there are a lot of ways to make money in game.

Also, I do use maxmotives when I am playing a 1 x 1 residential lot, as they're usually too small to place the reward machine to perk motives up.

I think that's all!

um...Usually I just play normally, with the occasional maxmotive. I used to boolProp like crazy, and motherlode, too, but I stopped playing Sims for like, a year, then moved on to challenges and legacies where you're not 'allowed' to use cheats. So I stopped, but now sometimes I'll turn boolProp on, then turn it off when I get to the lot. That way, if there's ever an emergency, I can fix it. XD I also use moveobjects quite a lot...

Well... I've had InSim for about a month or so and have been cheating like mad since then. :o: But before that I really only try to use the cheats to enhance the game. MaxMotives being the most abused.

I have some hacks I couldn't live without now though too, like the homework sometimes hack and the hack that has the kids automatically check for homework at the same time each night. I pretty much try to have them make their own ways though. Of course I have some filthy rich sims that have started with a ton of money in their bank, but thats typically for a roleplay standpoint.

I cheat when I make stories but for the most part I've gotten better with my cheating.

I usually cheat to give Sims the job I want without having to wait for it to show up in the newspaper, or to max their skills if it's not a challenge/legacy lot. I also use it to get Sims pregnant sometimes.

I use maxmotives occasionally, if my Sim is in that awful situation where their hunger AND energy are bottomed out at the same time and are too tired to eat, and too hungry to sleep and eventually die. Or if I have a lot of sims on my lot and they all start having motive desperation at the same time (ahh! Insanity!).

I don't use money cheats unless I'm building a super-house or something. My legacy family has accumulated $160,000 over four generations without any cheating at all.

I don't cheat a whole lot. I would sometimes use the aging cheats for my character themed sims but I'm trying to get away from it. I never use money cheats anymore, though I used to, especially for character themed sims. The only time I use mood or any other cheats is for when I'm making movies.

I hardly ever cheat, really. I use move_objects when theres a stuck item/sim that can't be moved otherwise, and I use boolProp to age a sim if theres a glitch and they won't grow up.
I also use the familyfunds cheat to take money from my sims, for example if a sim comes back from college and I merge him back into his parent's house, he automatically adds 20,000 o_O which is pretty unrealistic, so I use the cheat to take away that.
I have used maxmotives maybe once, on a pregnant sim who would've died without it, she was too tired to eat and too hungry to sleep -_-

Besides that, I don't cheat :) I find the game boring if I cheat my way through everything.

I only use move_objects, and only when necessary. I have one neighborhood that I have barely played, that I motherloded everyone and moved them into crazy awesome mansions though. There's one very, very small "cottage" in the neighborhood, for the sims to go to "while they wait for their inheritance to arrive" which I leave them in for almost one day, long enough to meet some of the neighbors but not long enough to age.

Cheating takes the fun out of the game, for me. I'll sometimes use maxmotives when a family first moves into a house, and then spend the next few hours a bit bored until their motives start to go down again, so mostly I try to avoid it.

Money cheats - unless it's for a family I want to live in a specific house from the start, for the purposes of a storyline - I just don't use. It's so easy to make your sims rich in less than a generation, and it's fun, too! My sims work like dogs early on in their lives so they can enjoy the benefits when they get older.

I use decorating cheats all the time - couldn't live without moveobjects on (for decorating purposes) snapobjectstogrid or allow45degreeangleofrotation. But I don't consider that cheating.

And I do have a couple of hacks which I guess some would class as cheating. Sometimes in university, if a sim has done all the skill-building/friend making that he/she needs to do, I'll use the college clock to fast forward the semester, but I try not to use that TOO much. I also use the clothing tool to buy clothes/make sims over quickly at the start of each age transition. I'm getting a bit better about this now, as I realised my sims were rarely going to community lots, so I'll try to buy clothes there now, but if one of my sims has aged up in fugly clothes, I'll whip the clothing tool out straight away.

Usually, I don't use too many cheats. I age transition townies and have them die of old age, but that doesn't count as cheating to me. Same goes for changing the recessive genetics of townies.

I do, however, rather occasionally (maybe in a half-dozen play sessions ever), use maxmotives on a community lot. Usually when I'm trying to find a mate or meet a specific person (getting seasons and inviting over household helped with the second bit).

I have used SimPE to removed crushes from autonomous flirting a couple of times, and to mend relationships three times (twice because of an unreturned crush and once because of the cow). And also made a visitor selectable so that I could do the flirting and such the way I wanted. That's totally cheating.

I use maxmotives far too often, but I'm trying very, very hard to stop. :P Other than that, I don't use too many cheats- I'll occasionally use motherlode to build a nice house, but after I'm done I'll usually use the familyfunds cheat to give them less money.

For me, cheating depends on the scenario/neighborhood I'm playing. I'm sort of doing a prosperity challenge in one neighborhood and no cheats are allowed there, though I do use some hacked objects to make the game more realistic. And I don't consider the building/decorating "cheats" to be cheats at all, so they don't count. But in this other neighborhood I'm playing there are a number of immortal people because they're based on ancient gods/goddesses. So there, I'll use SimPE and/or Merola's painting to extend those particular character's lives indefinitely and to increase the length of some of the life stages. I don't turn aging off completely because I don't want ALL the Sims in the neighborhood or even on one individual lot to be immortal. Or in this other neighborhood, I have a family I created in CAS that were meant to be filthy rich from the get-go. So, I familyfunded them $1,000,000 plus the $500,000 to buy the mansion I built for them to live in. I also have this one lot that's a self-sufficient group marriage commune where everyone is married to everyone else, so there I use a hacked wedding arch that allows polygamy and I use InSim to turn off jealousy completely or else there'd be chaos. :) I also have to use the "more than 8 Sims on a lot" hack for that one, of course. I also have a couple of Romance Sims with Family as a secondary aspiration, so I allow them to have more than one spouse to cure that "Woohoo everyone" itch while also curing all the family-related itches, so again it's hacked wedding arch and no jealousy. And lots of babies. :)

Otherwise, my Sims earn all their money, and I really only use cheats/hacks/hacked objects to make the game more realistic. For example, I use Monique's computer to allow Sims to take out mortgages to buy a house they don't have the money to buy outright. That's simply realistic. I doubt there are many people in the world who can just buy a house without financing it. :) Then, of course, they have to pay back the mortgage with interest. I do have some hacks that remove game annoyances, like the endless FT hobby phone calls and the weather reactions, but again, I don't consider those cheats because they don't affect actual game play.

I never speed up Uni or use maxmotives or any other cheat that artificially improves moods, aspiration levels, or motives. I'm pretty ruthless, really. If I have a teen who's going to transition to adult in near aspiration failure, so be it. If I have a pregnant Sim and I negligently allow their hunger and energy needs to simultaneously tank...then they die if I can't fix the situation without cheating. Even if I really like the Sim in question. That's...just life. I find that making everything perfect and easy makes for a boring game.

I cheat a lot nowadays. I never used to, since I was addicted to playing legacies fair and square some time ago. But now... hehe. New house?! Oh, let me give you a motherlode for nice looking furniture<3 Toddlers need to learn all the skills? -- maxmotives maxmotives maxmotives. That one sim I want to befriend doesn't want to come over? Oh, let's just summon them...

I mostly use building cheats and moveobjects on that I quickly turn off as it's really frustrating to not have windows and doors snap immediately into position. And if I'm doing a photoshoot, lots and lots of cheats, posing hacks, and anything within imagination and availability. When I play a family though, I actually prefer to keep it as cheatfree as possible though I always have testingcheats on. It comes on automatically everytime I load my game so I no longer have to keep typing it in. Then I just slide their motive bars up and down at a whim. Pregnant sims especially since I have inTeen and you have to watch that hunger and energy meter or they'll miscarry. And it's good to get really hard-to-get powerwants always taking up space in the wants panel. If they need a quick motive boost and I can't seem to get it for them naturally, then cnt+click any want and they get the points and the boost but of course not the memory. It's also handy for those annoying party wants that popularity sims have, and since invites last longer and seem to get more interaction and enjoyment out of the guests, I get to satisfy that want in a not-so-cheaty sort of way.

I always run thru the game without cheating once, then I start cheating like a monkey on amfetamine!
I like to see how much I can bother my game before it crash :smash:
Cheating without doing the game without cheats first is for stupid people driving a Honda Civic and eating noodels with forks!

I try not to cheat, but I usually end up doing so. Until InSim is updated, I have been playing without MaxMotives which is kinda hard for me because typically the only houses I do that with are my two Legacies. I also use hacked objects a lot because I like realism.

I cheat all the time. Sometimes, I want my Sims to do something like cheat on a spouse rightbefore the spouse comes home so I'd rather have them cheat than eat hamburgers.

I don't cheat with skills because I only have a few Sims go very far in their career ladder; most of my sims are mid career or below and will stay that way.

Building cheats and the college adjuster. That's about as far as I go with cheating. For non-legacy sims I might also use the hacked coat rack to quickly get them a nice outfit if they age up in something totally inappropriate. Depends on how much money the sims have.

I use the cheat command move objects on/off regulary, but that's the only one. I find money easy to come by in Sims 2 (too easily, unfortunately; it was harder in Sims 1 - made every promotion cause for a small celebration), and cheating with motives feels cheap, too ... if they got nothing to do except study skills and work on social relations, then they become supersims too fast, and the game becomes boring.

I use Insim all the time.

I set my sims interests, hobbies and skills when I start playing them - either randomised, or if I base off a rl person the way I see that person.

I regularly cheat motives. Not static, but just to avoid disasters :p

I disable aging. I hate that my sims suddenly become adult while the neighbour teen I've been dating for months remains a teen unless I start to play him myself. Ok - with one of the expansions you can now raise 3 sims to your own age. That's a *start* I guess. If Sims 3 has a completely dynamic neighbourhood I might decide to play that with aging on.

And I disable jealousy so I can have a ménage-à-trois home. Which got me in a lot of trouble when I went on island vacation since I realised too late jealousy is specific to the lot. I spent my entire vacation going from one community lot to the next and got caught 'cheating' in almost every single one of them before I realised my error. :D

Also, move_objects on when I make snapshots. I hate it when I want to make a perfect holiday picture. And some fat, ugly, elder guy suddenly passes in front of the lens when I click the button. :smash:

There are somethings I'll cheat with and there are others I never do. I stopped using money cheats a while ago because I found I had far more fun playing sims who had just enough money to survive and had to earn every upgrade rather than sims who had more money than I knew what to do with.

I used to abuse maxMotives but I found that annoying when I wanted to improve the mood of one sim rather than them all. I now play with testing cheats enabled all the time so can just tweak the motive bars.

I do cheat to give my sims the right jobs if they've spent more than a couple of days looking (with all the new careers it can take ages). I also tend to reduce the job level (again to make money harder to obtain).

I use the building cheats often but don't really count them because that's more about looks than anything else.

The only time I cheat in a big way is during university, I find it too boring not to.

I always cheat. I use the money cheat to furnish my house. Then they have to get by on wages. I never max motive. I use insim to auto pay bills so I don't have to remember. As a mum of four I should be ashamed to say I always use the age baby up cheat I usually stick out toddlerhood though I quite like that stage. If I am looking for a promotion I use the cheats to gain friends quickly. mmmm no the wonder my kids hate me being banker at monopoly, yes I cheat on that too. I don't know if it is control freak action but if there is romantic involvement with another sim I always use cheats to make them perfect partners. I find though if my sim gets married, I lose interest altogether so that rarely happens in my game. I do like my little sims to have a daddy present so I never use the have baby cheats or adopt as a single parent.

I find that if I cheat, it takes all of the fun out of the game. I use building cheats, its just the money and motive cheats that ruin it for me. The funnest part for me is the process of making my Sims Wealthy, and managing their needs.

Yes, I cheat, but that depends on the Sim(s) I am playing and what background (in my mind) I want to give them. One Sim might be good at dancing --no need to become neighbourhood's ridicule till he/she becomes an excellent dancer. Another one might be a shy, introvert and sort of philosophical kind, which means he/she should have some meditation or logic skills; or he/she might be a poor artist with great talent in writing or painting. Or, he/she might be a wealthy silly Sim who has to learn everything from scratch.

Sims I like and matter to me have their aging off for some time. Not because they are immortals, but because I feel the in-game time passes too fast.

That's all.

I agree with this, too. I like that it's like real life, the aging process, but it's too short.

Since the game itself does not provide some banking system, I should say I use this kind of cheat myself, but only when it comes to parents/kids relation: I "withdraw" money from the parents and pass it over to the kids to start their new life in another house.

Once in a while I will "withdraw" some Simoleons from a parent to give it over to his student kid, too. [Hey! It was a hard semester, the kid needs vacations! Don't be such a Scrooge. :D]

I BARELY use maxMotives since I think it defeats the purpose of sims. I do use it when modelling and things.

I always use familyfunds and moveobjects as well as motherlode. I use boolprop when something foes wrong or if I am bored. :D

I used to cheat a lot by using Motherlode and Tombstone of L and D. Now I do my best and use the Tombstone only when it's really necessary for the planned game to age up certain Sims in the family and then kill them off. I did that with the Ottomas family in my reset neighbourhood and kept only the girl alive, she's the only one that turned out decently looking, aged her up to her teens. And the same with the Travellers, aged up their daughter and left her alone as a teen in Family Bin.
I noticed that playing without cheating is more fun and makes your Sims to work harder to achieve their little goals; more realistic too.

But I've been into decorating lately and use moveobjects and allow45degreenagleofrotation if I want the rooms to have a look I wish them to. Can it be considering as cheating? ;/

I use InSim mostly to make friends quickly or to maximize motives (but I usually only do that on community lots or in the morning to give my sims a boost before work). Otherwise, I try my best not to cheat. I usually fail, but at least I'm trying!

i can't remember the last time i didn't use cheats throughout nearly the entire game. when i go to a friend's house and they don't use cheats - or at least, not as many as i do - i just can't understand how they aren't about to rip the computer off the desk and throw it out the window.

i don't think cheating is really cheating in a bad sense of the word, because you can't win or lose at sims. it's just playing how you want. i like that sims 2 is so alterable, so you can play it basically any way that you want to.

usually i do cheat, not tons tons tons but a good amount. once i set the family $$$ at the amount i want though, they usually have to live with that. for my legacy family, the only cheats i use besides building cheats are "move_objects on" <--- can't live without! and "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" but JUST for moods. They gain their own aspirations, skills, relationships, etc.

Plus I have my own rules for moods cheats in my legacy family. You can't use any mood cheats on pregnant people or elders. You can only raise moods three times a day plus while they are at work, but you can lower moods as often as needed.

So I do put restrictions on my cheating, although some may say that defeats the purpose...

When I first discovered cheats in TS1, I was such a Cheatzilla! However, it really sucked the fun out of the game for me, so I don't use cheats anymore with families that I develop and play. I do use Insimenator and the money cheats when I'm making up a family that's just going to be part of my neighborhood and not a family I play regularly.

I cheat a bit but only to age Sims up or summon someone that my Sims wants to talk to and I can't get a hold of on the phone and maximize motives but only when my Sim is at their business and too many employees have low motives

I cannot imagine how to play a business lot and not to use maxmotives, I'd have to send my employees home after 6-7 hours and that's too little to be able to gain a decent profit for the day, and that's why my Sim and his/her employees spend at least 24 hours working before I send them all home.

At first when I got the game I used the motherlode cheat a LOT. But now I only use cheats when I'm building houses. Sometimes when I've just start a new family & I don't have a lot of money to pay their bills & buy furniture, I'll buy the dream catcher and sell it the next day (it goes up in appreciation by 1000 in just 1 day). I only do this when I'm really really stuck btw.

I never cheat: it's bad and ruins the game for me. Cheaters never win at sims or beat Kuro Wallbanker in the end of the story arc.
