Really?? I've never seen anything like that - by chance, do you have any pictures? It sounds funny XD
I'm not sure if this a glitch or not, but when a sim of mine talks to another sim via chat or phone, either a relative or a close friend of the sim they were talking to will randomly show and come in uninvited! I'd understand if someone in the family knew that sim, but it was a newly created family who didn't know anyone yet, and it was 3 am!
Also found that puddles are pretty deep. I had a sim go mop up the bathroom barefooted, and then I noticed the water came halfway up his foot ^^;

What's funny is that they don't always do the pointing thing to sims. They often point/flirt with walls...
They did actually get together that night, but they're now avoiding each other coz they're embarrassed. ... In my mind, anyway. :D The pictures amuse me!

That's because once the child is takened away from its family, they have no recollection of them at all after they've been adopted, which is totally unrealistic if you're adopting a child. A baby, yes, but a child no.

That's funny, Beau was taken away by the social worker but luckily Dustin and her other son (she was pregnant with at the beginning of the game) were at school so they weren't taken for some reason. I then went and played Cassandra (living in that yellow mansion) and got her to adopt Beau so he wouldn't be poor anymore. Funny thing was, he had no recollection of Brandi but Brandi kept ringing him at Cassie's home and they were chattering away for ages.
Um, might be a bit silly but what do the conditions have to be for a sim to have a sponge bath? I've never seen that before.

I did that with an adopted child- got them adopted by someone else and their natural father kept ringing his child up but I kept denying him the phone to make it more realistic as his new father hates his old one.. if that makes sense lol
the only cases that I've had my sims "sponge bath" is when I was torturing them, only (for the bathroom) giving them a toilet and sink- they can't have a shower/bath on the lot.. I THINK..

If you have really sloppy, lazy Sims with empty hygene they will sometimes prefer to use a sink instead of a bath/shower.
Today I discovered that Sim children can apparently autonomously decide to throw away the game controllers into the trash. I just moved a Sim into a family and there was a games console in his inventory. After I placed it the girl went up to it as though she was going to play but put the controller in the trash instead!
A new one spawned when she got back to the house.

That there is a mistake on one of the Maxis Sim's memories!
Albany, who is married to Goneril (him and his family are in the family bin in Veronaville when the game is started) has his memories mixed up.
I like to look through pre-made Sim's memories, so I got looking through his. He had a memory of teaching Miranda to go potty, fair enough. His next memory though was of Desdemona being born, THEN MIRANDA, then the other two kids.
So, Desdemona was born before Miranda (Miranda is a teen, Desdemona is a child) and Miranda got taught how to use the potty before she was even born?

That happens to me still, occasionally. It would vary - sometimes it's a best friend, sometimes a close cousin or sibling, and once or twice a parent. I've never tried to figure out what causes it - even with 100/100 relationships, most sims will dutifully ring the doorbell and wait to be greeted ^^;
I've discovered the effects of different driver updates on the game. Some of them have given me resolutions I'd never even had available before, while others more refresh rates. I've yet to find a really really really good one though. Blah.

That happens because your sim hasn't learned it fully, and same applies to his friend. Just go back to Three Lakes sometime and use the chest pounding gesture to some locals.

Well I haven't been to Takemizu yet so I have yet to learn the bowing gesture. He didnt go on the second trip to Twikkii but his dad learned to fire dance!
*I also learned that the scarecrow doesnt scare sims. :( I zoomed in and watched while my sim played in her garden and waited and waited...nothing. i coulda swore I saw a pic of a sim being scared crapless by them.

To get spooked by the scarecrow, you have to "view" it.. although it doesn't seem to happen to everyone.. I haven't spent alot of time trying to figure it out, but some get spooked and while other's view it nothing happens, I dunno try it I guess.

What did you discover today while playing the sims?
I discovered that toddlers can go to the potty on their own and when I mentioned this, I THEN discovered you don't have to empty everytime they go!!
Thanks, LilG!!
No prob ^^ After mine are all potty train I don't touch the potties til they're like teens (I literally forget about them unless I have to direct a toddler to remember his bladder)
I've learned that the sims are addicting enough to make me deticated in finding a good driver so I can play it longer than 30 mins ^-^' And along the way, I'm learning soo much that I didn't know before... which will be great for the next time I get a new computer!

Actually, you just need a group of about 8 sims on the lots that are all related to have a family reunion. It doesn't matter if you haven't seen them for a long time. And I believe it has been there since the base game.

Interesting info. If it really has been there since the base game, it's amazing I never caught it before!
I didn't, however, throw a party or have more than eight related sims on the lot. I had a woman living by herself who invited her father, stepmother, and three half-siblings over for dinner to meet her fiance (using the "invite household" option). Together, that makes seven, but the stepmother and fiance weren't technically related to her. Then sometime later, the father's family invited the woman, her husband, and her two children over (again via "invite household"), but no one got the reunion memory. I wonder why the second one didn't take.

I would be careful with the family reunion memories. I have a few sims with ten pages worth of nothing but that memory.
I had several pages of "Family reunion" when I had a family invite their oldest son and daughter home from college for kids birthdays. As the mom turned out to be a baby factory who always has twins and gets pregnant every time she tries there were lots of birthdays before I got the house cleaned out. Then I saw the memory pages and used SimPe to clean some of that out as well.
(Now I have 8 kids camped out in the student bin, but that is another story.)
There is a hack on MATY which prevents redundant memories.

I've just bought a new laptop, and after installing Sims 2 (I have all expansions), I realised just how much I had been missing when playing on what now seems like my crappy pc!! I always thought my graphics and sound were good, it ran fine and so on. I've now discovered that there are cut scenes (yes, i had heard rumours but its always nice to see for yourself!). I was sooo happy when my sim woohooed and a cut scene kicked in!! Also found there's a cut scene when you first move a sim/family into a new lot. Not found any others yet, just the various woohoo ones and the moving in one.
I've also discovered the sound is so much better too, I can literally hear the sound of the sims walking on different types of flooring and the difference in the sound as they change on say.. wood to concrete!! And so on.
Ok so maybe this is old news to alot of people, but it's made my gaming experience so much better, and actually seeing those 'mythical' cut scenes for myself has made my day!!

I have not had Bon Voyage installed very long so I do not know if this is supposed to happen or not, but I loved it. I had sent Tara Kat on vacation to Three Lakes and she was staying in a tent because she could not afford anything else. It was the beginning of winter and very very cold. She had on her outerwear but she was still cold. I had her warm her hands at the campfire and she was doing this when she turned around and started warming her backside. It had also been raining. She stood up and walked away from the fire and there was steam coming from her, only a slight mist of it floating from the back of her coat and from the back of her head. This lasted until she changed out of her outerwear. I thought "how realistic".

Yesterday I discovered that Nina Caliente is shy. I don't normally like Romance Sims a lot, but I decided that with the Romance Mod from MATY, and ACR, her and Don Lothario would be a perfect couple. As they are both romance sims, they could have sorta an open marriage, and neither would get all that jealous. Well, turns out they have 3 lightning bolts, and are totally head over heels. And every time Don compliments Nina, she does that little I'm so shy move...I checked, and she's only got 3 outgoing (maybe four).

The goth downtownie does have some horrible genetics, escpecially that nose. Some offspring who inherit those features get really big ears too.
If you clear your game of characters though and generate a few new downtownies, sometimes the game will generate another goth who is a teen version of a rockabilly sim that's also a hidden downtownie. He has some odd customized features that some may find homely, but there's no big surprise in store when he ages.

For example, a dog needs; a bed, a chew toy, food. A cat needs; a bed, a toy, a scratch post, a litter tray and food (although you can use fish). That for some reason Shiela had an "Ammu" ("shoot" in english) option when I clicked their maid. Timothy didn't have this option although he lives in the same house.
I tried that and that actually meant she would dismiss her from the job. Blah.... I kind of hoped she would have been able to shoot her .
And one more thing... when I made Shiela to "shoot" the maid, the description of that action in that icon que was "FIRE!" like that the house would be in fire O_o
Wtf?

The woman on the milk carton is Bella. Sometimes you will also be able to see the picture of the Social Bunny or Sunny the Clown from Sims 1. At least I think the clown was called Sunny. I know its the picture of the one who used to come and bug depressed Sims.

Don't try to influence Big Foot to hug another sim, especially if that sim is your partner. I did it with a couple who are married elders, and first the wife got a slappin' from her husband, then the husband got a slappin' from the wife, then Bigfoot gave the wife a slappin' for apologizing to her husband and giving him a hug. And in the wife's memories, 'had an affair with Bigfoot' is appearing. After a chat and a hug! Sims get jealous way too easily. So then the couple spent the rest of the holiday furious with each other, got home, and the husband promptly died of old age.
Those crazy sims!

well, if you were to "fire" someone, in American English at least, it would mean to terminate their employment.
Yeah, but now it was translated as "tulipalo" ("fire" in english) and in finnish this word only means the kind of fire when some object is on fire. This word has no synonyms. Same thing with that "ammu" ("shoot" in english) option. In finnish it means that someone shoots a gun or something similar. What a way to fire that maid XD.
But yeah... like sidneydoj said, I just discovered the joys of a game where the translators seriously messed up

yeha, that's pretty weird. I've seen some poorly translated stuff before, but you'd figure a multimillion dollar enterprise would be a little more careful. (lol, you should apply to be a translator!)
ani_
7th Nov 2007, 01:43 PM
The reason those spelling mishaps happen is because the translators don't see the game when they translate, they only see the text seperately - and well - you can translate a word in many ways :)
Thrior - you really play the game in finnish or is it just a phase you are going through? I just read the review for BV in one magazine where they played it in finnish - Janus Goottinen - that name is just sooo bad >.<

Yeah... I installed the finnish version because of my sister and I regret it. Those names are SO bad. I have been changing them tough and I never give finnish names to my sims.

Not to go off-topic: I discovered that having too many enemies in the game can be a real pain in the butt. Trashcans of Rael's house are always kicked over and after he has just lift it up and got back to sleep, another one of his enemies comes and kicks it over again . For some reason I have never encountered this aggressive behaviour for example with Gordon *points avatar* but maybe that's because he's awake at nights anyways and they prefer to go kick those trashcans at nights.

It's not a new discovery, but it worked for me: put a fence with a gate around a little space, move the trash can there with move_objects and then lock the gate for all sims that are not part of the household. That way you'll just have your sims trashcan-kicking enemies standing in front of the locked gate. Haven't found a way to prevent them from stealing the newspaper, though ;)

If you really need a newspaper after it has been stolen, use the bathroom with a bladder score of 50% or lower. You can click on the paper they read while seated. (Another advantage to females, although you need to be pretty quick if their bladder wasn't very low.) And I keep one in my sim's inventory if I'm going to need one for a picture. So anybody who steals the paper is just doing a favor.

That just because someone feeds your a baby doesn't mean they've met the baby. Lola Singles had a baby. I had her flirting with her husband instead of feeding the baby (his backdrop was a nice dark green, not even yellowish a bit). Then I let them go to feed the baby and Vidcund comes down the stairs with him (I have no idea how/when he got into my house - though dad had just been on the phone with his son). Feeds him, puts him down and says it's getting late and he has to go. But neither he or the baby have any memory of meeting each other. And he's not on the baby's "known" list.

A perfectly level floor inside a foundation that was build before I leveled the terrain is considered to have a slope so I can't add the stairs. Or a wall. Stupid game. I'm debating whether I want to bulldoze and start over (It is an unoccupied lot) or just use cheats.

what I do is I take one of those connecting stairs, (have the lot flattened or level around the area first) then in 4 segments which should do the trick. then I add a foundation, lower the terrain around some of the foundation then remove parts of the foundation to add walls for windows, there's a basement.

That was what I had done, except I had forgotten to level terrain across the entire lot first because it looked like it was already level. It apparently wasn't. I couldn't even put in a wall. Even after I leveled again and put in a floor I got "Cannot build on a slope." I bulldozed the lot to start over.
I get the exercise thing in college too, it is caused by a coach who comes into the place and starts making everyone work out.

And if they write more novels the amount of money increases. I ended up with one sim who was bringing in 10-12 thousand simoleons from each one after a while. (Of course I was using the "faster novel" function of Christianlov's easy computer.) It got funny. He would finish the novel, the phone would ring, his wife would answer with a "What Now?!" attitude, the money would come in, the husband would start a new novel, and the wife would say "Aw Frek!" and start throwing a temper tantrum because she couldn't turn the computer off. But she was more than happy to spend the aspiration points he got from writing best sellers to buy Elixir of Life for herself, and spend his money to upgrade her house.

Its not one that you can actually select to build. I'm not sure what causes it but its like how a Sim can build a broken robot or a kite that will always electrocute the user. I think its more likely if the Sim has a lower skill.
