I got the simcity societies box and installed it last nite. I noticed on the website there are downloads available, but of course, I run screaming from the exchange. I was curious if there is a reputable site like this but for simcity stuff?
Thanks!

Really, I'd recommend just playing the game vanilla with nothing in it for a while - to be quite honest, it's such a crappy, boring game you're more than likely going to get bored and uninstall it and a few custom items aren't really going to prevent that. I played it a few times and found it really, really bad.

I agree with HP Toni. Play it for awhile first and see if you like it enough to even be bothered with custom objects. SCS was my first sim city game that I've ever played and I didn't like it. Everyone I know told me to try Sim City 4 to see what the game is really supposed to be like

I wouldn't even recommend Sim City 4 to a new Sim City person, it is quite a bit more involved than the others - brilliant game but perhaps the least accessible to someone new to the franchise.
I'd probably go for Sim City 3 as a starting point unless you don't mind a pretty big learning curve.

Don't bother. SimCity Societies was such a waste of money. I'm going to sell mine on EBay. Back to SimCity 4! :D

Whoa! I know SC:S got a lot of non-loving, and I really feel for people who started playing it expecting a "better" version of SC4 because it absolutely isn't that, but that doesn't mean it's a completely unplayable game. I actually enjoy playing it but on a completely different level than I've always enjoyed the other SimCity games.
I know this thread is old, but I wanted to post in it to say that Societies can be a lot of fun IF a person isn't expecting it to be a zone-and-let-it-build kind of game. If someone just enjoys trying to be creative and experimenting a lot, it's an absolute blast.
I was getting kind of weary of the whole zone-and-grow playstyle of SimCity, where SC4 turned into more of a traffic manager than anything else. SC:S takes a whole other turn. I think my overall favorite SimCity game is SC:3000 because I can build a single city without having to manage a half-dozen towns just to make one grow. I found that an annoying aspect of SC:4.
I am, however, quite happy that I didn't join the original rush to get it upon release because I was able to pick up my copy later for around $10, plus bought a strategy guide for around $3.

I really liked Sim City Societies. No, it wasn't the SC5 that everyone was looking for and it was somewhat simplistic, but it was still enjoyable. I still play it from time to time.
Because the game didn't go over very well with the Sim City community, there are very few mods for it. What little there is, can be found will be at the Tilted Mill forums. (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=35)

I haven't played SCS since the day I bought it. It's a incredible boring game.
