And I am not sure why no one brought up:
Enya
She has an amazing voice. And I love her voice :D
YES! Totally! Lots of people (teenagers and young adults) don't even know who she is, as of late. I don't want to live on this planet anymore. Oh, Terra, where Lil Wayne, Justin Bieber, One Direction etc. still exist.

@Gabrymato: She is very outstanding. I own all of her albums. I usually listen to Enya when I am going to bed. Her voice, as weird as this may sound, her voice soothes me too sleep :)
@The Creeper: I don't know how people can be into Justin Bieber. I can't stand him. He can't sing.

Hey guys. Just popping in here.
I'm confused when you say that Justin Bieber can't sing. He started with videos on youtube, he did have an incredible voice for a little kid. That's how he got famous. But he's become somewhat of a joke because everyone says that they hate him when in reality they don't mind him THAT bad. It's just a mainstream thing. Puberty ruined his voice, though. He can't sing, anymore. The genre he normally sings, Canadian Pop, is one of the few genres I dislike. I only like 1 or 2 songs by JB.
I like practically all genres except hard core country, repetitive pop, and slow jazz. And I generally dislike when the singer screams. Like screams so that they strain their voice. Ugh. Don't confuse it with loud singing, I mean full on screaming.
I love R&B, rap, occasionally pop, alternative, alternative rock, some hard core rock, soul, retro, ragtime, blues, broadway... well, that's all I can currently think of.
When I say that I like JB, it doesn't mean I only like him, and I worship him. I just enjoy one or two of his songs, and I don't really mind him all that much. And what I'm really trying to say is that I kind of like all music. Except bad music. I mean like, music that doesn't sound good to anyone.
I like everything, and when I say that I don't mind JB all that much, I get so many people saying that they really disagree with that. People on this site, you guys really must have some problem with him. A lot of you act like you're out of the mainstream, but you kinda aren't.
I'm so sorry that this kinda turned into a vent in the end....
Well to answer the question? I love Avril Lavigne. All of her old songs. I don't mind that she doesn't have a super range soul voice, I just love everything about her as a singer. She's my favorite singer. No doubt about it.

Best singer in the world?... Oddly enough the pretties voice I have heard was a random mermaid character in an episode of Season 2 of CSI:NY, no idea who she is. But her voice was amazingly pretty, I remember wishing I could sing like that. The band Blondie's main singer has quite a pretty voice too.
For men... Michael Bublé has quite a soft voice, the kind of voice I'd like to hear forever in bed but that I wouldn't trust precisely for that reason, lol, My favourite male voice of all times is Claude McKenzie's. You probably don't know him. If I have to pick someone you know I could possibly mention George Michael. Always thought his voice had something warm and comforting.

I stand by Amy Winehouse as one of the best female voices I have ever heard. There's just something about her voice I fall in love with over and over again, and, she had the best stage presence.
Also, Allison Sudol. Her voice is so clear and her lyrics are so deep. And India.Arie is my favorite for the same reason. I think those three top-all for me, because, there's so much more than just lyrics to what they're saying.

Michael Bublé is just... Lord have Mercy. Definitely my top pick. But, he's got a great personality - He's super witty and a joy to watch in concert.

I love Britney Spears, because she has got a real piece of amazing voice (we can see and hear it, her real, stron voice on the videos from her young times). She is really talented. And also she has got such a strong persionallity, but she is like the girl next door. That makes her amazing person and artist.
But, if i have to choose someone with the best vocal on the world, I would choose Leona Louis probably.

I love Damian McGinty's voice! Absolutely beautiful! But there are so many great artists, I don't know who would be the "best". Damian's just my personal favorite. :)

HUGE CT fan!! They're almost all I listen to lol! But sadly, I've never been to a concert and they're not coming to Michigan on this year's tour. :(

Amy Lee! But I sound similar, so just wait until you see my electric blue popper concerts! There's a bit more girliness to it, like Amanda Seyfried in whatever the scene was where she sung a bit to guitar. Kind of Michelle Branch, too. Goodbye to You, so sad, right?

Rihanna's latest skanky outfits, Adam Lambert's make-up and Taylor Swift's hairstyle.
Okay.. But what does this have to do with singing?
Anyway, I'd say Serj Tankian. An amazing voice he has.

Adele and Amy Winehouse(sp?) are my two females.
As for men, that's a hard one. I listen to so much with different genres. I like it all just about - hm, To me best singing is different than performance/song etc. I'd say Elton John IMHO simply because his voice always makes me stop whatever I'm doing to listen even if I've heard him a thousand times.

1. Freddie Mercury, I don't think I have to write why? Even dying he had amazing voice and was able to record "Show must go on". So powerful. <3
2. Enya - so calm and pure, always makes me relaxed.
3. Tarja Turunen - I've heard her on the concert and I was just struck that she sounds so great not only in studio songs.

Alive: Sir Elton John
Dead: Frank Sinatra
If only Sinatra lived to do a duet with Elton, it would have been AMAZING!!!

Maybe not the BEST singer, but I like Damon Albarn's voice.

My favorite singer, one who's definitely among the very best, is a relatively unknown stage actress heard (and dimly seen from the back only) in this video of a silly karaoke night she enjoyed with some castmates from South Pacific wherein she played Bloody Mary a few years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUD5QJ_xuXY
She also happens to be one of my dearest friends. I'm deliberately not typing her name, because she'd totally kick my ass if she were to see this post. ;)

There are so many very talented people out there, and everyone has a different opinion on who the absolute best voice in the world is. Some say it's Celine Dion, some say it was Pavorati, some say Josh Groban, Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, and some say Reba Mcentire. But there has to be only one Best singer in the entire world. So who would it be for you?
This man. THIS MAN.
One of those rare singers that's even better live than he is on recording. The day I saw him in concert was one of the best days of my life.

lol, james hetfield taylor swift lisa loeb. james hetfield, really?
I would say Beyoncé if she would just sit down and sing, and not jump her hips around like house of pain. Watch a live Beyoncé, but mute it, and tell me it's not hilarious.

I'd say I love the voices of the Click Five singers equally, but I also like the voices of Kim-Lian van der Meij (Dutch) and Xander de Buisonje (also Dutch).

I dont think theres a 100% ultimate BEST SINGER but heres my opinions: i think Robert Smith is unconventionally great. Freddie Mercury is of course one of the very best, Elton John is great. On the lesser known realm, i love the rawness and pureness of Connor Oberst's voice. I like hearing emotions in a singers voice, and in Connors, you can hear the sadness and i love it. Grimes is very good, im sure some of you would find her annoying because of how high her voice is but i find her voice very relaxing. Zach Dela Rocha's singing (its kind of sing-talking sometimes isnt it?) but he has an interesting voice, and im really into unconventional singing. i like to be interested in what im listening to rather than just listening to a "good" voice. Yes, a lot of the people who are expected to be listed are/were great singers but that isn't enough for me sometimes.
Oh and Charles Manson REALLY had a good voice. Seriously. Put everything you know about him out of your mind and just listen to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYJUx0TobqI (i obviously dont support charles manson, and im saying this because im sure someone will try to twist my words)

He is an amazing singer. He lived near where my mom grew up, or he was staying with someone there or something. In Charleston WV. I know at least one person that has heard him sing in person before.
The best singer imo is Emilie Autumn. There are a LOT of singers I think are amazing, but she's probably #1. Her voice is amazing.

She died, but Aaliyah was the best singer imo.
She had the most calming voice.
