Now here is the kicker, it was said this same ad ran on MSNBC news just last week.
Well.
Debate time.
Should ads like this be shown on any network? Ads that advocate adultery.
What is your opinion on the subject?
robokitty

It's definitely in poor taste, but the networks can run whatever ads they want as long as it's for a legal service and within FCC regs. Viewer backlash can take care of the rest. And as far as I'm concerned, there are more pernicious ideas about violence, particularly against women, being spread by the media, so adultery is somewhat low on the list of concerns for me.
Btw, it's also been said that their commercials have run on several stations, including MSNBC (not that this makes it any more or less "okay" that MSNBC ran the ad, but I think it's a little misleading to single them out):
The notorious site currently boasts over 3.2 million members with a new member signing up every 20 seconds. Ashley Madison went mainstream in 2008 when they began airing their previous commercial on CNN, ESPN, Fox News and MSNBC. This new commercial is the first time they've ever been allowed to advertise before 9.

Are people really getting that desperate? And we have to pay? This is basically a premium Match.com.
But as robokitty said, they're allowed to put whatever they'd like for advertising. You pay thousands for it (millions, in the case of large companies).

have you checked out craigslist? buttload of married *****'s on that site.
and aside from whether theyre ALLOWED to or not, its not exactly what youd call a new way of thinking. ive seen it in high school. people who have boyfriends/girlfriends do not take that title seriously any more, so they run out and bang anyone they think they can. its like a game of who can cheat on the most people without being caught....and most of the people ive encountered, do treat it as a game.
its sad, but its only rational to believe that these same people run out, get married, and cheat on their spouses left and right. they're taught that promiscuity makes them a better person, and are stupid/gullible enough to believe it.
though, i do think its amusing that businesses like that exist when one of the main reasons straight religious folk dont want gay folk to get married is because its so SANCTIONED. *giggle* you cant honestly expect that all of the people using such a business are athieses, can you?
just one less reason to trust people, for me. *whistles, exits stage left.*

Let's not build strawmen to attack here. It's unfair, divisive, and a logical fallacy.
There are plenty of atheists I'm not proud to be associated with due to our respective [lack of] religion. And while there certainly are a fair share of religious people who are hypocritical, broadly painting religious people based on that bunch is as unfair as broadly painting atheists based on Stalin.

Nah, I wouldn't read that. Never. I might try it one day and see what happens, Romance Sim style.
I was just telling my sister the other day that with all this corruption in recent years, marriage is becoming obsolete. Everyone is doing the same stuff outside of marriage.
Amish Nick was talking about the ads, not the topic itself, I believe. His wording was vague.

I don't care about protecting the sanctity of an institution this country respects so little that they'd deny millions of people access to it. It's a sham concern. By making it exclusive, marriage is valueless, just another instrument of religious oppression.
Besides, if it makes Amish Nick squeamish, it's probably for the greater good.

im not attacking anyone. just pointing out a bit of irony...how is that unfair, divisive, and " a logical fallacy "?
i never said atheists were better, i never said ANYONE was better or in the right or wrong. dont put words in my mouth and we'll get along just fine.
like i said. i just think its interesting that those two mindsets seem to coexist.

I think they are just trying to attract attention, because frankly any dating site would do for someone who wants to cheat on his partner. At least these guys are open about it, and they can guarantee to hook you up with a married partner who will probably be disease free and as discreete as you would like them to be. As for adultery, I think that's upto the persons involved. They took some vows when they got married, if they believe in fidelity to their partner and value their relationship and both partners agreed to be monogamous, no dating site will cause them to stray.

Cheating is for losers. But who cares if this is on TV.
If your that far that you want to place a dating add to cheat your marriage is worth nothing anymore. You are lying to yourself.

I think that its wrong, but that is because my Dad's cheating broke up my family when I was a kid. I have no respect for people who cheat in a relationship. Besides why would you need a service just for people who want to cheat? Can't you do that anywhere else?

Maybe because they don't want to go through the hassle of finding someone willing to cheat with them. This way they know that whoever is on that site is there to cheat on their partner with someone else's partner. Also, it's not nice that your mom taught you to disrespect your father. The issues were between them not between you and your father.

What mite be worst of all is just imagine if a child has the same name as Ashley Madison. I have to wonder how they came up with that name for a dating service and I am sure that poor child is probably being ridiculed by others.
You could say the exact same for Levi Johnston, Andrea Yates, George Bush, Britney Spears, and all the other loonies. Look on MySpace and Facebook. There are real people saddled with those names.

Yeah but that all depends on where your mind is set. I have known a pastor named Dick.
Umm, yeah, we had a guy in sixth grade and he was a Marshall Mathers. Embarrassing... your parents thought, "That's the most wonderful name EVER!" Ten years later? A criminal arises and has the exact same one. Or it's already been around. I bet you people will and have crown an Ashley Madison. Look it up.
If this was about Cheney, he was really a Richard.

Well, you said it right. It all depends on where your mind is set. If all you can associate the name of Ashley Madison with is a dating agency who's to blame for your thoughts? A real living person by the name of Ashley Madison, not even remotely connected to the dating agency, or you for making biased associations?

According to these posts, apparently there are people who still go by the name of Hitler.

From just a cursory glance it's not a crime - there's some vague allegations of abuse that got the kids taken away, but in this case what's going on is sealed or I at least didn't see it in the minute I spent looking through links.
I think it's clear though that your parents might have other problems beyond their choice in naming you, if your name is Adolf Hitler these days. Beyond that, there's just the normal stuff of someone denying the child service because they didn't want to make out a Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler! cake, and that sounds on the level too.

The difference between what I said and you said are very different. Kids are known to get picked on for their last names or names. Especially if they know that their parents split up because of an affair. Kids seem to know a lot of things.
I have never heard of kids talking about the word Dick related to sex in the way you meant it. Maybe the kids now a days laugh at that word so much but I don't ever remember kids laughing about it while I was in school.
They usually made fun of other people's names because it reminded them of something else other then sex. If they watch television chances are they will know about that site when advertised especially if it's advertised when the Simpson's are on.
The fox network picked up here in Canada seems to do quite a bit of advertising for Ashley Madison so most likely the kids will learn about that site and associate it with the name. It has nothing to do with being bias.
Yes, you're thinking inside your box. Kids don't make fun of names like Dick because they have been taught by their parents and teachers that that's an OK name to have. If parents and teachers would do their job properly, no kid in their right mind would make fun of a kid named Ashley Madison just because they saw that name on TV or because it reminds them of whatever. Shallow parents create shallow kids and vice versa. And like I said earlier, parent's affairs should not influence a kids feelings towards either of his parents and smart parents should know better than that.
I also suspect that the country you are living in that kids there tend to pick things up very quickly in Europe. Don't forget the age for learning some things will differ then here in North America.
From my understanding kids in Europe tend to be allow things that North American kids aren't. I base that information on what I have been told by my ex-boyfriend who grew up in Europe.
I'd appreciate it if you woudn't modify you posts quite so often. As for your concern regarding kids learning things, I'd say that kids will be kids for as long as you let them be. They'll eventually grow out of it anyway.

Lol, knock yourself out. Sometimes any reason is a good reason and sometimes no reason at all is still a good reason if all you want is to pick fun. A young kid will tell his mommy, an adult might tell his lawyer.
Teachers don't always have control over what kids say to other kids in the school yard during recess unless of course a child has been hurt and they tell some one.
The name Ashley Madison isn't a bad name but what it is associated with kids can pick up and they use it to tease people with provided they had that as a name.
I haven't forgotten what it's like to be a kid because even when I was young I got picked on and often times people made fun of one of my name's and they made fun of it. (I am not going to say what it is either.)
I will agree with you on some of your points and yes parents need to really teach their kids well but often that may not be the case when both parents work.
The world isn't just perfect in the way you think how people will live it out. It's one thing to say what you think but it's another thing when it actually comes to people doing it.
Usually they have a sitter or a relative look after them while the parents are working. That seems to the norm as how I have seen it in my own country.
If we think like that than we are all doomed because, like I said, some people can't think outside their box.
