Hi to all,
I started out in the gaming world with the lovely game called 'Starsiege' I've played that game since 2000, I STILL love that game.
My all time console game has got to be Halo2, it is the Best I have played so far.
I haven't gotten around to getting my xbox consoles online YET. someday maybe I will.
Who knows? One thing at a time.

Favorite game, favorite game... Where should I start? I've played games from every genre: RTS, FPS, TBS, RPG etc. While I enjoyed every single one of them, only one managed to get the title of favorite: Gothic...
This game is just pure awesomeness! It was actually the first game I ever managed to finish without cheating or getting bored. And when I got my dirty little hands on Gothic 2 + Night of The Raven... Farewell, sleep! :)

Ooh. Tough one. Might be Ninja Gaiden/Ninja Gaiden Black. As far as recent games go.
All time favorite, I'd have to say Alpha Centauri or The Sims 2 (yeah, I still play it, way longer than I played the first Sims game). Warcraft III as well, probably my favorite RTS of all time, along with Close Combat III and Company of Heroes.

I'd say the one that started it all for me:
Super Mario Brothers 3

Picking an all-time fav is difficult. The games critic gig means I have to play so many games that narrowing them down to just one is impossible.
A handful (10) of my favourites is a little easier though I would consider a number of titles not in this list equally valid choices.
Civilization IV
Ultima VII: The Black Gate
Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds
Planescape: Torment
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (this is probably what would rank as all time fav)
Fallout
Deus Ex
System Shock 2
Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom
Thief: Deadly Shadows (the beautiful wrapping up of the Thief story and the inclusion of the scariest level in a computer game ever is what makes this my fav even though the first two games had arguably better mechanics)
My first game i ever played was "Gran Turismo", so far i played all of them and i think that is my favorite game. To bad there is no comp version
There are significantly better race simulations on the PC than on the consoles. Go look for anything by Simbin (http://www.simbin.se/) as a good place to start.

Umm....it really depends if I'm going to be playing by myself or with friends. If I'm playing alone it would be a tie between Bioshock, Fallout 3, or Resident Evil 5. If I'm playing with friends I'd have to say Left 4 Dead 2.

Hm, i find it hard to pick only one seeing as they all are so different and from different times, also mixed expectations/view of good game mechanincs and so on.
I dont think i would be too happy if i tried replaying some of the games i got good memories with
Anyways i really loved Bioshock. I have played through it multiple times by now and i really just like the place and the theme in general. Also the different plasmids, story, upgrades and whatnot.
If i where to pick a second one i would say Fallout 3. I havent had the chance to play the previous ones (had not even heard of it when 3rd was released!). I just love these sort of games with a theme of 1930's - 1960's worlds.

Well, my absolute favourite PS3 game is Enchanted Arms. I'm not very good at battling/shooting/not screaming when random things pop out of nowhere so I really enjoy the strategy combat mode in this game.

probably The Sims, because i've played ALL sim series, with ALL expansions.

If limited to PC games then my favorite is Mass Effect. I like it so much that I am even more comfortable with the whole of Mass Effect than I am with Star Wars. I played it three times through, even tolerating the ridiculous insanity difficulty with a sentinal class. All of this just to sift through the story again, try the DLC, and last mission.
If you are asking for my favorite game on any system I don't think I could make up my mind.

currently, all things sims, and .Hack//GU for the PS2. i played the first series through as well [ and loved it, as well, ], and couldnt stop until i reached the end. im still utterly amazed at how real they made the characters seem, yet so diverse. im not talking appearances, though. i liked how they balanced graphics with visual effects/animated cut scenes, though. :D

The only game I haven't ever stopped playing is Sims, it will probably be my favourite game forever. It's the only game I really play now.
Sims aside, my favourite all-time game would have to be Crash Bandicoot 3 on PS1 - I loved that game. You also can't beat a bit of Guitar Hero now and again.

i really liked super mario 64. my older cousin had a nintendo 64, and i used to play whenever we visited. i like it most because it was taken from me so soon; he sold his system, and I still have a want to play and beat that game today. i loved the 3d, the sound fx, the castle, the water, the paintings. i still sometimes dream about the haunted house world.
also, i love spyro 1 on ps1, sonic on sega genesis, and soul calibur on dreamcast.

Hmm. It's always hard for me to pick just one favourite of anything. No One Lives Forever 1 & 2 are games I never tire of--I love the storylines, the humour, and it seems like every time I play it I notice some detail I never noticed before. It's just a great series. :lovestruc
I also like Operation Flashpoint. It's a game we don't really go out of a "phase" of for long. I play it with my mum & brother. Very fun. I often find myself saying "roger" instead of "yes" in real life.
I also like playing Need for Speed: High Stakes with my mum & brother. Fairly old, yes, but still entertaining--when we can get it to work properly. Heh.
Obviously TS2 is on my favourites list as well.

Has to be Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The greatest game ever. I still have the console, and I may play it one more time - the graphics are worn, but the gameplay is awesome. And what a storyline (the fish enthuses happily.....)

I first got into gaming through Pokemon Emerald, which is a bit silly, but there you go. A younger sibling gave it to me to play during study breaks, and when I discovered there was a strategic community online (via Smogon.com) I starting taking a real interest. If not for that game, I probably never would have started gaming at all.

Yes, glad to see I'm also not the only one with similar taste - mine would include the System Shock series and Fallout series minus 3, as well as Deus Ex (best game ever), The Longest Journey, and Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Also love the Monkey Island series when I want a good giggle, The Sims 1 & 2 for further good giggles, and the original Doom was fantastic back in the days when it was first out.

Then you need to play...
http://www.orble.com/images/system-shock-2-box-art.jpg
And then for the scariest experience in computer gaming simply grab a copy of Thief: Deadly Shadows and play the Shalebridge Cradle level. A single level so terrifying that it prompted the following article by Keiron Gillen.
Journey into the Cradle (http://gillen.cream.org/thecradle.pdf)
You only need to read the introduction to understand the Cradle is something special.
t’s too late to run. Running from The Cradle is like running from the air around you. People bandy the word ‘immersive’ around when discussing videogames, but miss the subtext of what they’re really talking about. To be immersed is to be surrounded and submerged, thrust into a new context. If The Cradle is about anything, it’s immersion. Your head pushed beneath murky waters until you choke and drown.

Tropico 1 and expansion. After reading an article about Hugo Chavez on some news site today, I can't help but reinstall Tropico and play it. I know there's a new game called Tropico 3, but the game is terrible, it's too easy and isn't as fun as the original one. Plus, I prefer 2D games.. Here are my other all-time favourite games
Age of Empire 1
SimCity 3000 and 4
Rollercoaster Tycoon 2
Swat 3
Rise of Nations
Age of Mythology

Lots of games for different reasons, but really fond of an obscure Nintendo game made by Koei -Genghis khan (my cuz, neph and I burned many hours to daylight playing it.)
Mario-cart..was a shared game so a social. Sims of course..discovered the pc game due to the console version.
Faxanadu ..have so many old dated nes favs.
Atari 2600 Berserk..very simplistic but was hooked.
Tenchu 1 and 2 I thought awesome
Last platform I was really impressed with was Okami...unusual game and fun although probably not a challange to vets...had good game play...and try collecting all the stray beads, one puzzle where you have to match up dots kept me blinded for hours...eventually had to use cuz's phone cam to record it to get that last bead.
Haven t updated to any platform newer than ps2, cash flow being the thing...I love my games, but like heat and food more so. :P

Alistair Sucks! :p
To quote myself from another forum:
And Alistair, after all the time I looked out for him, comforted him, listened to him go on about how important the Wardens are and that we must stop the blight at all cost... he throws a hissy fit at the Landsmeet when I spare Loghain's life. And then another, forcing me to choose between him and Loghain when it's suggested that Loghain should make a good Grey Warden. Then the queen wants him executed because she's afraid he might make a claim at the throne one day. I did talk her out of it and Alistair has gone in exile, Loghain taking his place, I hope it was worth it.
I spared Loghain, truth being told, because I figured he'd be trailed by his peers, I didn't think it was right for me to execute him on the spot, as an outsider it wasn't my place.
And then Alistair can not simply understand that everything I've done so far, every decision I made (bar one, in the Deep Roads I sided with the Gollem) was to gather a force large enough to concour the Dark Spawn, heck I've been running around with a 7 foot ice cold maniac that killed an entire family with his bare hands because he lost his sword, and a Crow assassin that has no remorse what-so-ever..
If Alistair can't see that there is no place for revenge, and that fighting the Blight is the first priority as a Grey Warden, then quite frankly, he's not fit to be one...
But yeah it's an awesome game ;) still have to get ME2, absolutly loved ME1.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.
It is my all-time favorite game for a few reasons. It has the best story/plot I've experienced. The NPC's in the game are interesting and they feel alive due to awesome voice work and mature dialogue. The little things: TV news channel covering stories about "incidents" in the city, many caused by you and similiar atmospheric details. Lastly because it's underappreciated due to its many bugs, graphic glitches and clunky combat system. One game critic said it to be "the best buggiest game ever"
While I haven't tried Thief and therefor not played the "Cradle" stage. Vtm: Bloodlines has it's own infameous scary level. It's called the "Haunted Mansion" or "Ocean Hotel" Some game critic wrote a whole article about it, similar to the link posted further back in this thread. I can't find the article now of course. It draws inspiration from Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Personally I don't find horror movies/games all that frightening, but for this particular episode I had to play in broad daylight with the sound off... on my subsequent play-throughs. It also prompted forum posts such as "Can it be skipped and still progress the game" the answer is no.
Edit: The Escapist has an article about the in their newest issue, check it out: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_244/7258-The-Last-Masquerade

Gran turismo 1 and 2 were my all time favs. From a young age that game taught me many things. I can now turn corners at high speeds and tune cars (obviously only on games) and the soundtrack was stuck in my head. Then I got gt4 and actually loved it but felt the flame disappearing.
NFSU2 is also another. I loved the graphics of it. It was like HD of the time.
FFVIII brought my fantasy side out. The storyline was so griping and the game required intense logic.
Before it all though, when I was 8 I played resident evil. I was never so scared in my life. Once I earn money I will buy every resident evil below 2 to find a scene that made my heart vanish.
It's sad how games impact you more when you are young. Blue stinger... I'm crying now...

Codename:panzers I and II. Stormregion went under, but that doesn't make these games any worse!
Hearts of Iron (1) and the C.O.R.E. mod. I never did figure out world market, but that was probably the best real-time grand strategy game ever made.
Simcity 3000 unlimited. The height of the simciy series in my opinion. at least the your advisors don't look awful as they do in 4.

Followed by Dragon Age.
Oh, lets not forget to throw Minecraft in the mix :p

GTA III, for what it did to gaming. It revolutionised gaming. GTA IV and a few of the others GTAs were obviously better. (My favourite, Vice city) But GTA III introduced 3rd person sandbox gameplay.

No way. I can't believe nobody mentioned Heavy Rain. Best game I've ever played. Compelling, mind-boggling, emotional storyline. Intense and suspenseful gameplay. Awesome graphics.

And a story line that relied on the game deceiving the audience in order to justify its end. I loved the game right up until the reveal. Deus ex machinas do not constitute good story telling alas.

I got into gaming with the old schooled mario bro's, then at the age of 14 I was introduced to the sims for pc/ps2 and it was over. I became a never ending fan of sims and now I'm 22 playing "the sims 3", which I hate/love at same time. and and between the sims I've always bin a ps2, xbox, ps3 and xbobx 360 girl.
I always will adored the sims 2, but the sims 3 I'm not that fond of because its too many "let downs" about the base game itself and the expansions added a little fun to it, but still not enough for me, and I had high expectations for it when it first came out, so I stop playing for a while, but when they brought late night out it was worth playing until all the bugs start rushing in.
don't get me wrong its a lot of great things about the game but a lot of things is wrong with the game, too. not going to get into all of that but I believe if Will Right took a little control and had better "game makers", who'd listen to the fans, the sims 3 would have bin #1. :(
besides that, give me mission, adventure, action, simulation, fighting and story game like "heavy rain", best game I ever played in my life, that'll keep me stuck into it. :lovestruc :P

I'd have to say Syberia 2. It's the only game that made me cry and made me play it over and over. And Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in America). They both have impressing storylines and they express the feelings of the characters very well. I feel a strong bounding to these games, especially because they're old and I played them long ago. Everyone should try them, they're ... beyond words. The landscapes, the action, the puzzles, the dialogues, everything's PERFECT! And you won't believe that they were both made around 2005, I mean there are very few games that can be compared to them in certain points, but overall, they're the BEST games in my opinion.

Resident Evil, one of the only games i have ever found to be scary and creepy at all, modern scare games just dont cut to RE's style.
IM talking up to 4 btw, 5 simply killed the series. Im playing zero atm and i nearly wet myself when i went round the corner and some mutant leechman was suddenly there. O.O
others are final fantasy VIII (I love Selphie and Quistis!), Gran Turismo 1, 2 and 4, Blue Stinger (gotta love christmas music, and i had a crush on Nephilim (i was 6 when i played it). Pokemon silver (creepy music), Nintendogs (I now love siberian huskys!), parasite eve 2. I connected with the storyline of FFVIII so much, i actually felt like i was Squall during the game.
@simwit your avatar is cute ^^

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to check that out
