View Full Version : No wants?

I made a custom 'hood and attached the premade towns (bluewater, downtown, etc.) and i never really played with them until I desided i wanted to dabble around with them.

Well to my (not so) pleasant surprise some of the sims don't have wants! They have fears, but no wants. This isn't the case in premade towns such as Pleasantview. Only in "Sunnyfields".

I did the "Game problem" FAQ and all it did was just give the same results. I mean, after I removed my downloads, I loaded up the Delarosa's and she had wants! What a relief! But they were job wants, and just to test, I made her get a job, and all of her wants dissapeared.

I then put my downloads back in, and with the (I know, unsupported) insiminator, i rerolled her wants, and they were fine. So I closed the game, and loaded up SimPE, and Delarosa's wants were blank! She had fears, memories, LTW, but no actual wants.

What should I do? Are they corrupted? How did this happen if I NEVER played with them? Do I delete the subhoods?

If I do need to delete them, I may have a problem. One child from the "Sunnyfields" knows Tessa Ramirez. Should I sever their ties via SimPE? But what about my college students? They never interacted with any of my CAS sims, except for one who works as a barista in one of my cafes.... Is there a way for me to keep my "Sunnyfields" intact?

Oh, and all of the pictures were taken with "downloads" and "saved sims" removed. Keeping neighborhoods in (for obvious reasons.)

EDIT!!

I'm also very comfortable using SimPE, so don't worry about me not understanding. :p

MORE EDIT!!

I also found out that this does effect some of my townies, but if that's the case, I'll just move them in and kill them off or something.

I found that my particular problem was with custom careers and uni majors. Remove those, delete your caches, and start the game. After I did that, some of my sims in some of my households still had blank wants, but only until they got re-rolled (I just had them go to bed, actually. . .) I didn't go so far as to check each individual custom career and major, so I don't know which particular one was doing it, but when I checked my downloads, several of them were showing up as many as four times - which I'm sure wreaks havoc on BHAV files. Hope this helps - it's worth a try.

I don't have any custom careers (that I know of! XD) but I do have custom majors. This problem I noticed with one or two townies (when i made them selectable because I was bored) BEFORE I installed the custom majors... But I'll try what you said. :)

So you were right about just deleting the cache! It worked!

Then I turned off my game, and stuffed the downloads back in and the wants were blank again. :( Except, I did as you told, and they work! I mean, they had to waste a whole day, but now they have their wants!

Thank you SO much!

I'm happy it worked for you!

I`m not sure if this is related, but I have a similar issue. Sometimes, usually after I first load a family during a play session, especially when I had just installed an expansion or stuff pack, my Sims will have [or even roll!] blank wants [but never blank fears, IIRC]. I do have custom careers, and even a few custom majors, but this isn`t *usually* enough of a problem for me to remove them. When I forcibly re-roll the wants with the BatBox [ffsdebugger.package], the blanks [almost?] always re-roll blank again, but when they re-roll "naturally", they almost always come back to normal. Oddly enough, during normal play, I get the occasional blank want come up when a single want gets satisfied [or otherwise invalidated]. I`ve also had a few Vampires roll the Be a Vampire want, but I don`t recall ever noticing that before seeing a picture of it in one of the Funny Picture threads. All-in-all, I just live with it, though it is slightly annoying when it happens at a "critical" juncture for a particular Sim.

I had tried a couple of potential fixes before I decided to look through my downloads and noticed the same career and major filenames appearing multiple times. Some of them appeared with names of existing ingame career and major names, too, rather than a custom name, which I thought could be either an oversight on the creator's part, or a genuine issue, so that's when I took them out. Whenever I take something out of my downloads, I make it a habit to clear my caches, just in case.

The blank wants were appearing all over. There was no connection between a household or sim having a custom career or major and the blank wants. Some households were all blank, some had only one or two sims with blank wants. But now I see it only when I go to a household that hasn't been played since I took out the cc, and once the wants re-roll, they don't go blank again.

Maybe you're OK with it as an occasional problem, but if you decide to take a look at it, would you let me know if you're seeing those duplicate/misnamed filenames in your download folder, and maybe with some consensus here, the problem files can be tracked down? Since all of the ones I was using were downloaded from here, it would be a good thing to find out which mods were causing problems, right?

I try to keep "on top of" that anyway, and do occasionally scan for duplicate files, and remove some when I find them [I`m sometimes not sure *which* copy to remove, and so defer the decision until later], but I`m pretty sure I don`t currently have any duplicate career or major files in my game, and I do keep my Downloads directory tree well-organized. I agree, though, that it would be a good thing to get to the bottom of. It just isn`t much of a priority with me at the moment. Sorry I couldn`t be of more help there.

I've noticed my vampires with occasional "be a vampire" wants, but as college graduates it only fills one slot so it didn't bug me much and it did re-roll. I used to have custom majors, but they were removed when they were overwriting regular ones. But I have a lot of custom careers.

But we didn't have any duplicates.
