View Full Version : CC will only work in old-style folders not new, mods won't work

I am guessing somewhere along the line I have made a schoolgirl error but I'm not sure where.
Initially, post-patch, I left my CC where it was and it all showed up fine. When I installed Ambitions I wanted to move my family to Twinbrook and use Twallan's (brand new updated) super computer to maintain their relationships with the spares. I tried it in the old folder but as I expected it didn't work (I thought it was worth a try to save the hassle of creating new set ups!).
I then removed all CC from program files and deleted the old resource.cfg, created a new one as per the instructions here, created a new mods folder in My Documents>Electronic Arts>The Sims 3, moved the CC files into here in their subfolders, added resource.cfg to the new mods folder.... and nothing showed up in game at all.
So at the moment I am going back to using it in the old folders, because at least it works, but mods don't seem to work in these folders so any help on getting the new system actually working would be appreciated!

Did you use the new resource.cfg/edit your old one so it'll work in the new location?

I removed the old one, then used the edits suggested here to create a new one to work with Ambitions and put that in the mods folder.

Is your CC under My Docs\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods, or under Mods\Packages?
If it's the former, then the resource.cfg must read:
Priority 500
PackedFile *.dbc
PackedFile *.package
PackedFile */*.package
PackedFile */*/*.package
PackedFile */*/*/*.package
PackedFile */*/*/*/*.package
If it's the latter, then it must read:
Priority 500
PackedFile DCCache/*.dbc
PackedFile Packages/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*/*.package
Try cut/pasting everything into the Packages subfolder of Mods and seeing what happens.

I'm getting confused on something with the new Resource.cfg file. I'm using the latter file info, as described above. I go into notepad and enter everything. Then I click "save as" and put it into my new Mods folder in My Documents. Since I'm going to cut and paste my packages folder from the old location, do I need to put a copy of this new Resource file in the packages folder as well? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I pasted my DCCache and Packages folders into the new Mods folder and the resource.cfg reads:
Priority 500
PackedFile DCCache/*.dbc
PackedFile Packages/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*/*.package
AFAIK I have followed the instructions but I am guessing there's something I've done wrong somewhere, I just can't figure what.

Right-click the Resource.cfg and hit Properties; make sure it's called Resource.cfg, not Resource.cfg.txt.
BiGBallA6, no, you need only one resource.cfg.

Gah, I KNEW it'd be something stupid. This was indeed the problem, and it's all running fine now. Thanks.
