View Full Version : Do "stealth stairs" work in Sims3?

I've followed the directions I found for Sims2, because they're very useful for tiny houses - but I can't get it to actually work.

If I leave the lot and reload it (say to move in a test sim) - then the stair usually jumps from the floor to float out of reach near to the top floor.

If I delete the stairs and go through the process of re-connecting the top and bottom floors through cfe to place my stairs fresh - then my test sim still can't use the stairs to get to the top floor. She tries, but either gets stuck behind the stairs or refused to use them at all.

So. Either I'm doing something wrong, or this method doesn't work in Sims 3, and is Sims 2 only?

If anyone can suggest an answer, I'd be grateful. :bunny:

They used to, but I think a patch broke them. I too have tried them and cannot get a sim to go to the next level. I'm guessing, because of that tutorial, that it did work at one time. I don't think I'm doing it incorrectly as I can successfully do this in TS2.

*sigh* Well, that's about what I was thinking. I keep testing, and it keeps popping those stairs right up to the top level every time I leave the lot and come back. I guess I'll have to modify my floorplan by a lot to deal with the warping of split level stairs. XP

I'm not holding my breath for actual modular stairs in the new EP. You'd think EAxis would have noticed by now how much we love to mess with stairs.

Thank you for letting me know!

Hi! There's nothing you can do to stop the stairs from warping to the level of the floor above. But there is a way to get the stealth stairs to work again with patch 1.17. Go to Edit Town mode and evict your test sim and any and all other sims living there. Save the lot to the bin. Bulldoze the lot. Place the lot you have saved to the bin. Move your sims back. Test the stealth stairs, they should work now and will survive normal saves. This method also seems to unbreak stairs that have had their paths broken for some reason.

Stealth stairs are basically 4 tiles of stairs, but are used up in 1 tile. In Sims 2, they were like, ladders, cc made from here, and also you could make them with ConstrainFloorElevation

Thanks so much for a simple solution. I have been pulling my hair out for 2 days trying to put stealth stairs up to the attic. The stairs hanging from the ceiling is going to take a little getting used to but atleast I can put the extra space to use.

Wow, haven't checked on this thread in a while. Glad I did. Thanks, Shoosh Malooka! I tried that out and it worked well. It is a bit odd to see the stairs fixed to the top landing and not resting on the ground a-la Sims2 - but as long as it works I don't care. I can pretend it's an attic ladder or something.
