Help me make these stairs better?

I worked on this myself and it's the effect that I'm going for. But it still needs polishing.

How do I get the sides of the stairs to look good/better?
How do I make the foundation (grey brick part) to be lower, like 4 clicks lower than a full wall (it's going to be a basement/cellar)?

Any suggestions, comments to make it better is welcome. This is the exterior of a French house I'm currently building.


If there are any tutorials that demonstrates stairs like these, please link me to them. I have no idea what these stairs are called so I don't know what to look for. Thanks!

This tutorial should do the trick, http://www.thesimsresource.com/tutorials/view/category/sims2-houses/id/2632/creating-stair-rails-with-fencing, yes it's for Sims 2 but its the same for 3. Once you've got the hang of this one you should be able to change it to fit your needs.

You have to use cfe or constrainfloorelevation to make those walls for your fences to rest on. You need testingcheatsenabled and constrainfloorelevation to build the right hight walls.

I guess you use friezes or something on the landings? Put a wall beside your landings, and use any tile to press the wall down to the same hight. Then you can replace the landings with walls. Have a wall also between the different landings. Then you have walls beside your staircase to place fences on. I don't know if this make any sense. There must be lots of tutorials on cfe on this site and others.

I used cfe to make the landings. Should I put the walls and the fences on it before doing the levelling?

I didn't really know I knew this much about building, but I've made quite a few tutorials already. Made a staircase tutorial for you yesterday. Hope it's useful. It's being processed by youtube as I write this so hopefully it will be up soon.
