So for those lucky ones who got your paws on Generations EP today, what is your first impression? Just another money waster? A little disappointed? Just as expected? Or a good surprise? Or nasty conflicts with your CC that get you screaming so loud your whole neighborhoods can hear?

I pre-ordered to get the free stuff pack so mine won't come in for at least 3 more days. Can't wait.

So far so good. The instant memory reminder annoys me, but you can turn it off. Although I wish there is a setting that allow me to only use custom memories.

^Memories aren't a generation feature  You'll realize how empty this EP is once you see whats in the patch ;)

Honestly, for me, I like some of the bits here and there, but a lot of it feels empty. It's not because there's a central thing that connects everything together, but because there not a lot of tangible things to use. A lot of things are behind rabbit holes, and behind 'closed doors' and need unlocking. Some features that were stripped from the EP should have stayed in the game to give it more depth and fullness (like dating) and now if feels lose. They don't even give us new wedding Decor or a Bridal Gown (if you want to call the dress a bridal gown, be my guest), and when will we get another 1 tile, 4 seater table! I'm dying over here!

Basically, You pay for a patch, a stuff pack (16 build items, 13 being walls, 2 unfinished spiral stairs[someone mod that] and 1 window that doesn't match anything), and a few new items (even if come are cool like bunk beds and the video camera) and clothing. Thats what generations is. Nothing has really expanded (Since the patch expands EVERYONES game with dating and reputations) and it can feel like of waste of money and space... oh wait... it doesn't take up that much.

Meh, I dint feel like its that useless. I like the imaginary friend bit, proper wedding, the new part types, midlife crisis, pranks, more rabbit-hole activities (proms, after school activities).

And those new items (video cam, bunk beds, spiral staircase, stuff for toddlers and kids, science station) are pretty cool to have and comes with new interactions. So its all good for me. At least now I dont have to age my sims up to adult immediately due to theres nothing for them to do.

Plus, the purchase bumps up my store points, and I used those to get Outdoor Living and High End Loft for free. :D

One complaint I have right off the bat is tweaking the age sliders under Options. It'd be nice if we could use the arrow buttons on the keyboard to be more finite on the age range for each group. Tried as I may, I spent 20 minutes trying to tweak the Young Adult-Elder ranges, going up 7 days each group starting with the baby range. I just couldn't tweak the last three to 21,28,and 35 sim days. The slider would dance all around the place, but not land where I wanted it to.

The age sliders work perfectly fine with me, love them btw.

I don't feel like anything mayor has been added to the game, but I'm having fun with what's there.

Not much to say yet.

I'll come back to this post. My family is about 98% loaded and by the time I hit Post it should be fully loaded. :D

The weirdest thing (well not that weird) happened when I unpaused my game for the first time since generations. 3 of the 4 sims in the house were asleep and one was in the shower, so after I unpaused the game it froze for a second then everyone just popped out of que and were just standing around the house... Did this happen to anyone else when unpausing your sims since installing the new ep?

Oh and another thing.. my sims skills seem to have disappeared?

Well, solved the Launcher install problem.....I just don't know how it rectified itself. Tried playing with all CC installed......crashed, removed build mode CC, crashed, removed mods, played just fine. Now I gotta fine tune and go through all my mods to see whats screwing it up. Which is 133 files, or 46 MBs. Yay....thank god I live alone so I don;t have to worry about anyone's savegames but my own.

Aw gosh that sounds awful. When I restart my game up I'm going to check that out to see if I have that same problem.

Edit:
The desk places fine under the bunk beds for me... I don't know why it's not for you.

Okay so I only added my skins, eyes, and sliders and the game won't even load it's saying the launcher isn't working but I know it is because I just downloaded hair with my new sim points and the free gift that comes with generations. I've never had this problem before. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Try loading the game with no CC Sliders. I don't have any mods/hacks in my game, just custom sim related stuff, and buy mode stuff. My game runs fine.

I would tell you if I could get the stupid thing to install. It first wants me to update my game version via launcher. I'm fully patched except for the latest one issued today. Of course EA posts the info about the newest patch update on their website, complete with formatting and spelling errors, an hour after the release of the game. And it asks you to install via launcher, but of course my launcher thinks the game is up to date. I don't know how you guys got it to install but I'm about to give up here.

My game didn't update via the launcher. I got the update needed message and clicked ok and it started the update which took about 3-5 minutes then went right into the install. The launcher never opened

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I don't understand what's going on in that link at all. So if I download the cumulative patch, that'll be sufficient for Generations to install?

I think this part is throwing me off:

Late Night Updates:

Digital downloaders don't really have too much choice. Either install the Patch or wait until EA provides a new one.

One can't install the Pack without updating the base-game first.

honestly, i've been playing for about an hour and it does feel empty. all these things in this ep could have been put in with other ep's. there is nothing really that stands out as FABULOUS! don't get me wrong, i am enjoying it, but it's a bit of a let-down.

Well, I played with mods and the game went really funny. No interactions between sims, and when I went to map mode, it weren't really the map, but a new fun camera mode, but with the tags and such. So, I removed the mods and left the CC, then my game ran slow as hell, I really don't know why, since objects and such things don't really need to be updated in EPs.

I played for an hour or so with an vanilla game but that's really boring. The new stuff is cool but there's like, five minutes untill you discover all of it? Really lame, EA. If I can't get my CC to work properly in Generations, I'll just uninstall it, since most of the EP is in the new patch. That's also a boomer.

Fun things about Generations:

- Video Cameras are cool, you can actually walk though the whole city while making the video (but you can't leave a lot, so you have to start the video in an street or field);
- Even if a rabbit hole in some kind, Tree Houses are nice with all the effects and it's cut to watch kids play there.
- I didn't even noticed that there's horses and spaceships to ride untill I placed the new playground. It gave me an nice feeling back from Sims Unleashed!
- Pillow fights and Bunk Beds are cool.
- Memories are one of the coolest things of the EP, for me.

Not so cool things about Generations:

- Sandbox is boring.
- The water slider thingie is really boring.

I got It yesterday and had just little time to chek out new CAS stuff and furniture...

+ There are plenty of new clothes for adults, teens and kids
+ Most of the clothes are quite good and nicely detailed
+ There are new hairstyles also for kids
+ New furnitures are lovely, I love the themes in kids rooms and little decorative stuff

- There are just few new outifts for toddlers and nothing for elders wtf...this was generations expansion!
- No new building stuff like trees, fences, doors, windows, flowers....
- There is no new crib, potty or highchair...

It feels a little more like Stuff pack yes, because it has no new neighborhood and no new communitylots i guess. I have not had really time actually play it but so far Im little confused how I feel about it...it´s something between stuff pack and expansion....

Sort of regretting ordering it now from what everyone has said. I hardly ever buy the stuff packs because I usually think "What's the point?" You can get nicer clothes, hair etc from this site.
I think the only stuff packs I ever had were Teen Stuff and H&M sor TS2 and me and my sister shared them between us. ;)

There is SOME game glayplay, but you have to play through some generations to get to it. Not really worth the hassle.

Like Graduations: I expected it to be when you finish Normal High School. Oh no! It's for Boarding School only. -_-

Wedding, while nice that guests sit down, we've already had weddings. The arches are Cute and All, but there's no decorative version of it, which means where there's and arch there's a wedding. And the cake, well it's cute and for weddings. But you need a spouse to use it. Now, I wish we could have a culinary profession and make cakes and stuff. -_-

Well, after all of that, there is no game play, unless I'm missing something. There are also nice little interactions and small things to do, but all of it is just small things. And there aren't even a trillion small things in the pack. Just enough to be called an Expansion Pack, and it can barely be called that.

At least the furniture is nice. I just wish that chair with the pillows had a couch to match it, and the themes were complete. (Like the sports set, or the nautical set, or the old furniture set, or that lonely window, etc.)

+ Kids stuff. I love them! My kid went straight away to play in the sand box and he seemed to have fun. :)
+++ The ability to edit each agegroup in-game. Now you're talking!
- Memories. I mean... they get a memory even when they change outfits! Why oh why memories in S3 couldn't be like in S2...

I'll need to test more to see other things.

A few observations from playing Generations so far:

1. When my Sim got a memory of teaching his daughter to walk, the picture was that of his teenage son who was asleep in bed at the time.
2. Both parents got the memory. The mother's picture was her sleeping in bed.
3. Sims can WooHoo/TFB in the shower and the treehouse now. Who knows where else.
4. When Sims WooHoo in the shower. they both get in naked, and stand inside each other. Once you finish snickering at that, what I meant was they are standing in the same place at the front of the shower, violating the laws of physics. And probably a few places in the Bible belt.
5. I noticed the above since the Late night blur removal still seems to be working... along with the NRaas script that removes vehicles and such.

Edit:
6. The bug where Sims doing romantic interactions not getting past flirty us still there. First run through they got to Alluring, then back to okay. :/
7. The maid will still stop and stand still until the end of her shift if there's nothing left for her to do.
8. One of my adults got an opportunity for a Free Vacation - I chose to accept it, thinking it would involve Travelling (WA), but no, both adults dropped what they were doing and left, becoming unselectable, leaving their teenage son and toddler daughter along.

Found a big issue with Overwatch - Overwatch "Recovered" the two "missing" adults and brought them back... aging the woman to an elder, and the man looked like an elder in his menus. About this time I exited without saving, needless to say.

More later as events warrant - I'd love to see the patch notes for the two patches it installed - one for the base game, and one after Generations was installed.

I played now for an hour with three young adult sims and nothing really new happened. I got the information about the memories and some other stuff but that was it. I just hoped that something new happened but the game played without major changes. There were some new interactions (date options - which in my opinion should have already been implemented in Late Night) for example. Oh and the sims had a certificate that they finished school. So after one hour of playing I guess for young adults there is not so much to do. On thursday I have more time to play so lets see.

The tag glitch is STILL there? Can't say I'm surprised.

Is the ghost behavior glitch still there too? The one where ghosts don't linger in graveyards, but instead hop in a car and drive off into the ether before you can even talk to them (the only way to interact with ghosts being if the grave is on your family's lot).

Played Generations for last couple of hours, stopped playing because decided to uninstall Ambitions due to a bit of lagging now and I wanna keep Late Night on there!

Anyway, here are my first impressions on the game.

Pros

Memories!

I love it, I was utterly saddened when they didn't included memories when TS3 first came out. I love the way the game automatically takes pictures when something happens, makes for good viewing when the Sims are older and have been through a lot.

Woo-Hoo and baby making in the shower!

I was shocked when an option came up for this! Gotta love it as more places open up for this activity :P .

Custom Ages

This is very handy, I don't really like Sim babies as they don't do much so having the days of how long they remain like this set way down suits me fine. My favorite age is obviously Young adults, so they get an epic amount of days!

TestingCheats - Edit Sim in CAS!

I LOVE that we can now do they TestingCheats cheat and now edit Sims facial structure etc. I know there were already mods for this but I never really knew what I was doing with them, so this has made life a hell of a lot easier.

Toddler Stroller/Buggy!

I adore this! I haven't even tried it out yet but I love it. I assume toddlers no longer will need holding when Sims decide to venture out which I always thought was a little unrealistic, so this makes it more real.

Cons

Camera Angles While in Map View

I don't really like the new camera angles, it felt a little hard to get around the town, and the town looked a bit glitchy and blurry from closer.

Needs Appear to Be Going Down to Fast

I don't know if it's just me, but my Sims needs shot down even after fulfilling them moments later. A glitch or maybe to add a little more realism I don't know, but I don't like it.

There will be more as I play more as this is only what I have really seen so far. All in all it's a OK EP, some aspects are making it my favourite so far.

I just found something horrible for the careerminded sims.

I've always found it incredibly annoying that your pregnant sims would get waaay to many days off. But now it seems that you also get a llamaload of free days after marriage. My journalist sim has now got about 11-12 days off after 2 marriages and a baby!!

How the llama am I supposed to give her a career?? :faceslap:

I've only checked out the build/buy catalogs so far, and CAS sans-CC. I'm disappointed by how few build items there are! There are some cute things in buy mode, though there weren't any new cribs (really??!!). Some of the clothes are usable, though I only checked out the stuff for YA females (I love those glitzy glasses!). I'm going to reinstall my CC now and make a sim.

I've honestly enjoyed every EP so far, so if I'm let down by this one I don't think I'll be too bummed. At least I got OLS for free.

That's actually an feature. They send the adults away so your teens can throw a party, get caught by the police/parents, and get grounded.

Nothing a good free patch couldn't have added, I bet, but then I suppose you don't pay $40-50 for a patch, do you?

I think i need to play it a little more, not much in the way of content but more interactions and definitely does what it says on the tin (gives you more to do at each life stage) :)

Sims now pillowfight 24/7. Hopefully the XML can be edited to turn that off!

The memory system is also much too fine-grained and talky.

Some glitchiness (memory of first day at school for a teen about to graduate, rapid social decay for children, ...)

Not too impressed so far. Alas.

Like even at the park?

I remember how they would do that in The Sims 2. They'd be out in the snow and all of the sudden they'd start pillow-fighting.

I can't even begin to imagine how bad it would be here. lol

I'm really enjoying the EP so far! I'm finding a lot of the new stuff fun, though I haven't done too much outside of playing with children/teenagers.

Controlling the number of days each lifestage lasts is absolutely amazing. Babies for only a day?! Toddlers only a few?! Love it, although it makes teaching the toddlers how to walk/talk a bit difficult if you end up with twins, haha. And the new Daycare profession is interesting, and pretty challenging.

My only problem is that ALL my skills vanished, and my Sims don't gain any skill points now for some reason. :( I uninstalled all my mods before I installed Generations, so I don't have any clue what the problem could be.

Got it, love it! The instant memory reminder is set a bit sensitive. Hopefully I'll find a way to turn off all the reminders every time my parent sims pick up their toddlers, but I want to keep it active for more momentous life events. I especially like the system for managing the durations of each life stage. I had just last week created a mod to customize that, and now all that work was wasted. But I do like the way the EP implements the customization. There are some features I particularly like. My children sims are doing their homework AT SCHOOL now, so I don't have to plan autonomous time after school for that; I can give them afterschool activities instead, like joining the scouts. I haven't explored all the new capabilities yet, but I like most of the new activity options I am seeing.

- Memories. I mean... they get a memory even when they change outfits! Why oh why memories in S3 couldn't be like in S2...
The same TS2 in which Sims got a memory for every person they met and seeing roaches crawling around? ;)

I am waiting for mine to be delivered. Does anyone know if you can send your baby or toddler to daycare? Or only an active Sims can do it as a career?

I played for a few hours this morning - did a wedding and a day of daycare and lots of pranks. I'm having fun testing it out and exploring. After my sims had a baby, I went into memories to see how they could be edited and it crashed. =/ The only time it's ever crashed on me. I think it's because my laptop got hot (I usually don't play it on a flat surface, but today I left it on my bed instead of holding it in my lap).

I think this EP is filling out the game. It feels more complete. I can't wait to try boarding school and like the after-school activities.

Generations isn't released until June 2nd in UK so hopefully EA will have got their bums in gear by then. (Though I won't get my hopes up.) I'm going to patch when my copy actually physically arrives.

I don't know how you guys got it to install but I'm about to give up here.

http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims.sims3/patches/TS3_1.22.9.0110xx_update.exe

This link was gotten after fooling around and much expletive spewing. I logged onto their help chat and after about an hour, somebody came on and gave me this link.
You have to SAVE IT and then RUN it BEFORE YOU INSTALL Generations. It updates the first TS3 to accept the changes in Generations, or that's' how it was explained to me.

Anyway, it works. Be prepared for a long wait: it is a 644 Megabyte download, then it has to install, then it has to Run. After that you should be able to install your game.

I got it today, and reinstalled all of my launcher content because it had started acting weird.. (newly installed content wouldn't show up in the launcher but was perfectly installed in game) So I haven't really messed with it much. I am mainly waiting till all my mods are updated so I can use my normal familys.

Few things I noticed:

I can't delete .package content in game anymore. Before generations I could delete .package and not sim3pack content.. I haven't tried to delete sim3pack content in game, though. (The reason I noticed this is because there are a few clothing items that I don't want but aren't sure what their file names are..)

Body hair looks better then I had expected. I was surprised to see they even had made pubic hair... (I mean it isn't full pubic hair. More of a treasure trail, but still....) I am excitedly waiting for default replacements and new hairs!

Triple love all of the new YA male clothing so far! Did they hire actual stylists to assist or something? Everything else they've made has been hideous! Then suddenly the store outfits and this EPs outfits are actually really awesome... (I just wish they made more male outfits.. a top or two and a couple new tshirts doesn't cut it, IMHO.)

I am really disappointed with the "memories" BS. So all they did was take the photo album system from TS2 and change the interface? Cuz' I'm pretty sure photo albums used to do this exact same thing. It would take photos when an "important event" happened. I remember having an option to turn it off. I can't remember if it was TS1 or TS2, though.

I'm so disappointed because I can't even get the game to work. I deleted EVERYTHING concerning mods, custom content, even saved games and sims. It keeps telling me I never even installed it, but gets an error when I try to do so. Attempting to UNINSTALL results in an error...Now what?

I've seen some other people having trouble with the patch, but none of them seem to work for me. I digitally downloaded Generations, and that went fine. When I try to install it, it says I have to update my launcher. But my launcer says there is no update. I've uninstalled and reinstalled EADM like suggested, but it hasn't work.

Any other suggestions?

honestly, i've been playing for about an hour and it does feel empty. all these things in this ep could have been put in with other ep's. there is nothing really that stands out as FABULOUS! don't get me wrong, i am enjoying it, but it's a bit of a let-down.

With the three previous expansion packs you could see what you were getting, from what I am reading sounds like a stuff pack plus features that were left out of the original release?
It's $48.00 retail In Australia sounds hard to justify that amount of money on an fluff up stuff pack? Or it’s that being too hard

Oh my, this thread has grown.

Anyway, I agree with both of you, it may hardly justify the cost as EA feels like they are getting stingier everyday. When I have to face with such decision, I treat it as "recreation cost". Spending $40 (USD) for 3-4 months (until the next expansion pack) is still better than paying $40 for 4 cocktail drinks at a local hotspot (in real life). In fact I do spend more than that: let's not even discuss the cost of clothing, average 2 cocktails = $16 to $30, valet = $7 (some place requires valet), some other activities (billard, arcade, etc...) $20 .... so I end up spending $50 per Saturday night. I live in California in case you want to ask. If going out twice a month will cost me $100. Or I can stay home and play TS3, beside the occasional frustrations of bugs and glitches, it is $40 for 3 whole months. :)

Anyway, I didn't hope Generations would be something Fabulous either. It can be, which will be a nice surprise; but I am certainly not setting my expectation there. I glanced over the features of this EP, saw something nifty like new interactions, woohoo in new places, tree houses, video cam, new body hair .... Arguably my $40 is well spent (very arguably at that). Face it, you don't get this kind of value spending on Sims 3 store for things that otherwise EA should have given to us (if this is TS1 or TS2). And those items are just different appearance, same items (aka "same difference"). There is no item on Sims 3 store that offers more interactions than what TS3 and its EPs already give us.

In all likely hood I will purchase as I have every other expansion pack and stuff pack going back to Sim City – Sims 1 just seems a bit over the top charging for an Expansion Pack that maybe is a "Stuff Pack Plus" + random stuff from reading the reviews this appears the weakest content out of the four expansion packs so far for Sims 3.

I am also using the price comparing to a complete new game well it was released in 2011 “Cities In Motion” for half the price of this pack I think EA charge way over the top (don’t get me started on the store prices)
And then to top it off they make life difficult with their stupid installer causing end user so much grief.

At least the furniture is nice. I just wish that chair with the pillows had a couch to match it, and the themes were complete. (Like the sports set, or the nautical set, or the old furniture set, or that lonely window, etc.)

I'm sure the themes will be finished in the Sims Store. Probably this month's store update, even.

Hey I know, if we are to really have to compare to this, then TS3 is really not worth buying at all, paying $200+ for all EP (not counting stuff packs) plus all the grieves it is giving players for bugs and glitches. If you knew me, I advocated so much about how EA should get their acts together and clean up their product (so the game can at least stand on its own without having to download CC to keep it running).

The thing is, if we are to decide toward continuing paying for TS3, it is better for us to look on the bright side, the optimistic side of things, right? See I mentioned "arguably"?

The same TS2 in which Sims got a memory for every person they met and seeing roaches crawling around? ;)

It would still be better than getting a memory every time you pick your kid up or change your socks ;) But that is just my opinnion, I guess. :)

Someone mentioned homework, and I agree: it's now great that you can direct kids to do their homework at school and save that time at home to something more interesting.

I also love the strollers, even though it's just silly that they use them to walk 2 meters with their toddlers. :faceslap: And I love how parents gain fun and social while they watch their toddler play with spring riders :) But toddlers not being able to play with sand box...

I have a suspicion that EA purposefully did not want to release the patch. They must be starting to regret it. The free patch was supposed to include memories, dating, body hair, and adjustable age length. Like, what the hell? That's half the reason anyone would want Generations in the first place.

Anyway, from reading the interviews, I could tell this was going to be a crappy-half-arse-expansion. It was hilarious how they tried to dodge questions with a politician's answers. "Pets, weather, diving boards, new towns---nope, we don't have any of that, but hey!! Check out this neat sandbox!"

Heck, I don't even like kids. Punk teenagers annoy me.

I enjoy watching when sims pull pranks and set traps around the house. One kid got grounded from setting traps and later he got grounded from sneaking out of being grounded.

But one thing I'm annoyed is that even though a previous patch should have fixed the story progression settings (so that when you disable it, it's indeed disabled!), I now find that one of my sims have given birth while I was not playing with them. I don't know if it's a bug with the later patches or what, but I'm definitely not going to play with my custom families and hoods until Awesomemod gets updated.

Well at first I panicked, I installed it first, then the game told me i'd have to update, which I couldn't do because the darn Game Launcher wouldn't open, so I had to uninstall it and then patch (I use a mac), which took I swear, like an hour (I feel asleep at my desk literally) then finally it patched, the Game Launcher wouldn't work AGAIN. But it did after I reinstalled it, which I was so glad, I was getting quite distressed as I had to go to work for 8 hours, and that is HARD when there is a exciting new game you want to try waiting for you at home.

So I tried it for a bit, after all that, I used a household I already had, for some reason I expected a new World, which would have been nice, I like seeing new families and stuff, but hey, I'm not gonna complain.

It all happened in the half hour I played, it was awesome. Dad took the little one for a walk with the stroller, while mum watched home movies. The teenage sister (of the mother, who lives with them) got into trouble by her big sister, once for skipping school, and then for having bad grades, she then got time out - a teenager in time out?? the huffy and crying teen while in time out was even funnier. And I got a bunch of memories, first day of school, driving an expensive car, picking up a toddler. I had so much fun in that short time. I can't wait to try other stuff like boarding school and pranks ect. :D

People please, weddings and the old people's canes. How are they like?

I tried marriage yesterday, it was a riot.

You must install an arch on YOUR house, so you can't have a wedding in the house of the rich girl that you're marrying to get her damn money. She was working when the wedding started, so the guests went away and when she got in the lot, there was me, her and two more peeps. Then, you have to click int he arch and choose an option to start it.

Ok, maybe I should have planned it better, in an day that she wouldn't be working, but the peeps that were there cried a little so it was cute to watch.

The next day, they received a huge ass amout of gifts and I writed thank you letters for the peeps that send it. Then I sold the gifts because it was random objects. But in the wedding there was a cake, and it tasted good. Too bad it's a pixel cake. D:

Canes are kind of awesome. You buy it, then put it on the old peep inventory, and choose how they should use it (geriatric mode or southern fancy mode) and they'll start using it how you told them to.

Well now, after getting the game I went back to a family I was already playing. I've only tested out a small amount of the new stuff, and I'm having fun. Overall I'm glad I got it. These are just my personal opinions about what I've messed with so far. ;p

++ New Interactions: I haven't tested the extent of this with different age groups, but this seems kind of lacking. The primary new ones seem to be Give Gift, Share Secret, Ask Out on Date..of course the TS2 Pillow Fight has returned. Elders can now brag about their adorable grandkids or brandish their canes menacingly.. So far, I'm a tad disappointed. However! Sims can now give flowers to eachother! It's quite romantic, especially when you witness some random couple on the street doing it. Aww. (Where's my family kiss, dammit?)

++ New Stuff: Of course I haven't gone through the buy catalog yet, but the primary things that are AWESOME are Canes for your elderly and Strollers for your bebes.
Canes enable your old people to be twice as crotchety and hobble around at a pace even more inconvenient to the sims behind them! They also have a second walking style, if you prefer a more dignified gait.
There's been some debate as to whether the strollers work, and I'm happy to report that, yes! They do! Go for a stroll or even visit community lots without accidentally misplacing your larvae. What I like about these is that they make otherwise dull-as-poop babies seem a little more interesting. Almost cute.

++ Afterschool Activities: This I really like, as it always pissed me off when I was busy trying to take care of my other sims and the kids came home only to whine at me that they were bored. A series of "clubs" is now offered at the school, all linked to an appropriate skill.. which will keep your kids at school an additional two hours each. Ahh..free time. Not to mention the skilling bonus.

+ Cute, Fun, Random: Sims can now woohoo in the shower. :heyhey:| I wasn't that interested in pranks at all when I heard about them. But after seeing a few, they really made me smile. |Curved Stairs. Almost. Yay?| There are now Field Trips! Which bring back cool little trinkets for your inventory. You'll be collecting a lot of useless crap throughout your lifetime.|When a sim Graduates high school, they get a diploma and their entire family gets the Proud moodlet for ten days|There is an opportunity that grants all adults in the household a Free Vacation for 2 days. Setup for Teen Parties.|

---- Memories: How I want to forget. This is the only thing I truly dislike about this expansion. This system is not at all like TS2, which I'm sure we were all hoping for. You'll understand once you start playing. No, we get a "scrapbook". Okay, I'll admit that's a cute idea. It stops being cute however when you get an entry for everything. My household are all vampires. Everyone got several entries for Befriending a Vampire. That would be okay, if they hadn't been close knit family for generations... whut. Also several entries for befriending, kissing, woohooing a celebrity. Sure. But they're married. Why would he suddenly find that significant? He just woke up next to her one day and was like, "zomgurfamous! I'ma put this in mah scrapbook!" Ahem. Yes. Extremely redundant. These entries just keep coming back after you delete them, so I gave up.
You get entries for things like skilling, vomiting, repairing objects, visiting community lots.. some really really mundane crap. Personally, I hate this system. Haaaate. I'd rather have no memories at all than this. Did I mention the layout seems extremely tacky? /rant

So yeah. My first impressions after a brief playthrough. :Pint:

One of the higher ups needs to start a Generations Compatible/Incompatible mod thread so we can stay on top of things. Looks like Twallan has just about all his updated, but there's many more.

Aww.

:Pint:

You get to remember a particularly awesome vomit? Woot! That's awesome! :giggler:

It's definitely an expansion that you can forget you even have. I started out with a single young adult female but I quickly got bored of that for exploring anything new. I often don't use cheats especially money cheats so basically I was playing her like I would any other family I was sending her to work and trying to rack up some money so I moved a family with a teen in to a house. That got the ball rolling a bit more, the parents went out on a free vacation leaving their teen son to throw a party. He knew only 2 teen boys so I was like well this isn't too wild lol Then it got better. One of his buddies decides to cook and sets the kitchen on fire. Teen boy in the family gets engulfed and I just knew he was going to die. Firefighters get it extinguished though. At some point the cops come and say his parents are on the way, the stove catches on fire again! So the parents walk in while another fire is raging and their son is blackened all over lol

I also had him plant a whoopee cushion before all that madness and his dad must have sat on it but I didn't see it happen lol

That's all I've done so far. Hopefully tonight after work and my lil sis in law's dance performance I'll play some more. I want to try some after school activities or something. Oh and I want to teach the boy to drive lol

I played all last night after installing - I hadn't played for a couple of weeks and yesterday I got Generations. I'm a bit disappointed so far, but to be fair I've only played it for maybe 5 hours yet. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm kind of disappointed at the small amount of things for toddlers, and basically nothing but strollers for the babies. I love raising kids in TS so it's a bummer that seemingly not too much has changed in that aspect (I do like the treehouses and outdoor stuff for kids, but there could have been way more toys!). Another thing, my game for the first time actually seems glitchy. I know I'm up to date with everything, so it's not a patching issue. I was having a lot of problems with sending my teens to boarding school. The house I'm playing is one mom with three teens. I had her send one son to the Peace boarding school and the other to the snobby prep school. The first son left to the peace school without a hitch, but the ride just never came for the son who was meant to go to the prep school, and I was forced to age him up as he was listed as being "enrolled in boarding school" but never attended. So I age him up and kick him out. Then, randomly, the first son shows up back at the house, having left boarding school on a Wednesday evening, and he has a want to go to prom. He even gets dressed in a tux. Days past, and I never figure out how to send him to prom, he never goes back to school to graduate, and I'm forced again to age him up just to get him out of the boarding school glitch. Also, for the first time in my game, I'm having problems with the Invite Over option; certain people will just never show up, no matter how good of a relationship they have with my Sim. Or a car will get stuck in front of my sim's home. Oh, and I had a butler who just disappeared - he didn't do CRAP, he was absolutely nowhere to be found all week long...my sims can't get a REAL butler, because there's no way to fire an invisible phantom butler. I'm just praying this glitch goes away when the Sim week ends. I don't have a single bit of CC in my game so there's no laying the blame on that. I also feel there should have been more interactions, and well...just more in general. For 39.99? Seriously. This is a light EP. It definitely adds some to the game, I mean, it's an EXPANSION pack, but I guess I was just expecting too much, and the glitches don't help either.

I have today off so I'll be playing a lot. Maybe once I explore more and spend more time with it I'll feel differently. We'll see.

In the UK it's out on the 3rd (since all games here are released on a Friday), so if Amazon dispatch on the 2nd then you will get it for the 3rd. They're pretty good like that.

I would love to have a first impression of the game, instead I got to spend all night after work uninstalling and reinstalling all the games 3 times last night. That happened to me too. I was like "WTF! The game is ALREADY installed!!" I calmed down, uninstalled and reinstalled everrything LOL

But I have just spent the last hour just in CAS looking at all the clothes and hair. The ONLY hairstyle I don't like for female Teens and above is one that looked like a beehive, but upon closer inspection, appears to be just a roller set. You won't be seeing my Females wearing it LOL

The clothes are cute this time around. Now I need to get into the game and see the Buy Mode additions and all the interactions. Too bad I only have the rest of this week to explore the game before I begin my summer travelling. Packing around a 15" laptop that feels like a tank isn't happening.

So far I love it! It's been lots of fun trying out the different features. I mostly play families so this makes it much more interesting. Time will tell if any of it gets old, but so far I am having a blast. I agree that the memories are spamming the player pretty hard over all kinds of nonsense, but I kept hitting the upload to the EA site button anyway so that I could get the free stuff they give out. I drew the line, though, at the toddler 'I just went to the potty' memory. :P

Also kind of creepy was the the teen 'baby brother has such soft skin' memory (from picking up toddler). Ewww! :wtf:

I'll just also add this: I think people will like this who enjoy sandbox play or story telling, especially if they play families. If you only play YAs or Adults and enjoy challenges, then you might not like this EP so much. For example I like the extra time off when they marry or have kids, I can send my sim to collect rocks and gems if they need money so it allows time to explore others aspects of the game. I also love all the toys and clothing that were added, and there are more spontaneous interactions between sims. In my game the teen babysitter whipped out a bouquet of red roses and tried to present them to the teen girl in my family. She made a funny face that reminded me of the elders who gnaw on their toothless gums and then the babysitter looked all dejected. This was all autonomous, I only watched.

http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims.sims3/patches/TS3_1.22.9.0110xx_update.exe

Wait, you need to download something off the internet in order to play a game you physically purchased?

Are you kidding me?

I'm on dial up.

I don't think that's what s/he's referring to. It's no secret that a large chunk of the EP focuses on kids/relationships/elders. You can't see very much with a single sim since this is a family EP.

No it's about generations. And young adults and adults are also life stages where some features exist (but unfortunately they are rare...). In German the EP is even called "Lebensfreude" which means "enjoyment of life". So no, it was not only meant to be a family EP. Or it's just me who expected more of the EP... I mean compared to sims 2 expansion packs the expectations were high.

KirsiF
1st Jun 2011, 09:58 PM
I actually like this EP. Sure, there could (or should) have been more content. But to me families have always been the most important thing in Sims. There wasn't much of a family connection before and I like it that with this EP families feel more real (and sometimes dysfuctional!). I usually end up using only a small portion of EPs features anyway. I like the new clothing and furniture and decorations. Build mode stuff is terribly absent. :(

Memories I don't like though. I thought I would love them but now I'm just annoyed. I wish there was some kind of filter to which kind of memories you want to be recorded. I don't want my Sims to remember every single thing they've done in their little lives - just the big ones like weddings, promotions, children being born, making good friends etc. I'm putting my hopes that someone makes a mod to make the memory system less dominating.

I think it's pretty obvious that the focus was not on adults (or at least singles). There's the daycare career and dating but other then that hardly anything for single adults. If you wanted something with a lot for Adults then you should have gotten any of the other EPs.... The stuff for adults is mostly for couples, expanded wedding system, 2 new woohoos, bachelor/ette parties, couple other interactions, etc.

I'm sorry if I have no sympathy to people complaining that the game is empty (mostly because I see a lot of you on the forums all the time), there have been numerous reports and articles going in-depth about every feature, pictures of every outfit hair and object, reviews by simmers here on the forum, etc. Basically I think that you should have done some more research or waited before buying it. It's not like they said a ton of stuff would be in it but then cut it all/expected some feature to be more than it really is. If you're only interested in building then why didn't you check out the numerous build mode pictures/information? The game is what I expected it to be (haven't found anything I didn't know yet besides a couple minor things) and I'm enjoying it so far (sans a couple bugs).

Hey Crix, the child in the family I'm currently playing has the doll, how does it become the imaginary friend?

Don't know if anyone responded yet but if your relationship with the doll is high enough, you should be able to take it out of your inventory and it will grow up with your child. i'm assuming if your relationship with the doll wasn't high enough it just stays a toy. :)

Hello again, my lovelies. I played all night and into the morning and after sleeping all day I awake disoriented and not even knowing what day it is. ;p A minor report to suffice until my next thorough investigative session.

While I haven't gotten to test the Child x Toddler yet, I'm sad to say we only get one new interaction with our Toddlers, and it's not even particularly notable. Nothing new for babies. Unless you count the equally unremarkable and slightly questionable memory for picking them up.. Seems to be all that hype for the younger generations went into strollers and toys. Boohiss. I want quality family bonding. The supermarket ride will only keep my attention for so long.

:alarm: With testingcheatsenabed, shift+clicking on your sim now presents the option to Edit in CAS! I haven't tested it though, so be cautious and don't blame me if anything blows up. :alarm:

Just a quick question - are wedding rings automatically given to Sims now after a wedding? The trailer seemed to imply that; after they got married they gazed at their hands and rings had appeared. If it was staged I'm a little annoyed as it was a specific part of the trailer where the only focus was on the rings. Not only that, but as elders they still had them on.

I haven't said that I don't enjoy it. So why do you think I don't enjoy it? My only complaint is, that I expected a bit more. I mean - sorry, but it's my right to say this here since everyone talks about his/her impressions on the game. And compared to sims 2 EPs there is not so much content in this one. And why do you think I am a builder? I also never said this, so what you do is simply speculating about me and I don't like such guys who think - according to some of my impressions, that they know what I do in the game. Sorry, I have my opinions and you have yours but I never would begin to speculate about you. Please leave this out in your posts.

Anyway - I only had a few hours to play the game. Today I have a day off because of a public holiday and I am sure I will enjoy to explore this new EP. And maybe after playing a family it feels more complete for me either.

Dunno what you guys are talking about, I LOVE the memories and scrapbook ! I think its really cool, I imagine when my young adult sims are elders, and the sim kids are grown, it will be cool to go through that scrapbook of memories of their whole lives. I mean sure some of them are silly, like some elders who have a grown daughter got a memory for their "first" woohoo, and its awkwardness :wtf: but you don't have to keep them all.

I also love the daycare profession, my sim is on their first day and its really cool. I also sent a teen to boarding school, though I wish they also had the choice of a private day school, like in Sims 2. And tried some house pranking, didn't get arrested but it was cool anyway lol. So far so good, not perfect but good :)

My game is virtually unplayable now.. Generations lags so bad and every action the sim does takes nearly 5 minutes real-time to perform. It's agonizing.

I noticed before you had CC. Even non-mod CC can affect your game. I would recommend removing all your CC and setting it aside on a folder on your desktop temporarily see if that helps then if it does just slowly add groups back to weed out the problem. It is a bit time consuming but better then having your game lag so horribly.

For people experiencing crashes; add TS3W.exe (found in TheSims3/Game/Bin) to your Data Execution Prevention settings. This happens to me every single time I get a new EP.

I don't know if this bug is Generations related or just an old old one I haven't had the "pleasure" to know previously:

Whenever my sim is pregnant and delivers the baby, she seems to get stuck with the pregnant-style walk. Thankfully I use Twalland Debug enabler and was able to get rid of the wobble with "resetwalk".

TS3W is a new exe icon that shows up in the base game's game bin (in programs) after the latest patch. So, you don't need to execute the game from the latest EP or SP game bin (which is where the launcher usually looks). Now the launcher can just launch from the same place, no matter how many EPs and SPs you have. Because of the new exe, the DEP (data exception program) doesn't recognize it as the same game already on the list. So, DEP will shut down the game because the game wants more RAM than your computer thinks the game should need. The DEP list tells the computer that this game is an exception. It needs more RAM. Do not shut down the game. It is not a virus set to take over the computer.

(The W may stand for Windows or Work-around.)

Oh my. Sorry that I have to say this. But isn't it sad that we have to create a family to see new features of a sims expansion pack? :faceslap:

I don't see a problem with that. I actually prefer to play families anyway. I could let a single Sim date, get married and have a family to see the new stuff.

I don't think that's what s/he's referring to. It's no secret that a large chunk of the EP focuses on kids/relationships/elders. You can't see very much with a single sim since this is a family EP.

Correct. I wasn't referring to the fact that I ONLY had to create a CAS family to enjoy the game.

Okay, it seems the whole pregnancy is bugged. :( (I do use Twallan's mods so I have to investigate if it's related to those.) My sim is not pregnant anymore but she gets reverting back to the pregnant morph and walk. I can edit her in CAS and get her to look normal but as soon as she changes clothes, she's back to looking like she's expecting. How annoying! Do I have to kill her because I can't tolerate to play her like that? :wtf: I like her, I don't want to murder her. :(

I love it  Even though most of it should've been in the base game, I've overlooked it and appreciate that I can actually use these features now. I want to find and try everything this expansion has to offer so I started a new game with two young adults. Going to make them go through the dating, getting engaged, having bachelor/bachelorette parties , marriage, and eventually having children. I saw that you could get sleeping bags in buy mode and sims can tell ghost stories, camping trip maybe?

I had the same thing. I first opened the launcher, but it said I'm up to date, then when I started installing generation it said it needs to update before installing, then when I opened the generation launcher the first time, it said there's a new update, and I updated. So either I got two patches, or I got patched twice by the same patch.

Still haven't plaid, I've been updating mods, but I did turn off the memory notification system quite fast. The first two minutes in my test hood and my test-persons had like 17 notifications.

For all who have problems with the patch. You shouldn't patch the game via the launcher but use a direct link instead: http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims/sims3/patches/TS3_1.22.9.0110xx_update.exe (Source: http://www.simtimes.de/2011/diesims3/probleme-mit-dem-neuen-die-sims-3-patch-8272/)
EA is working on the problem. When installing via the launcher they say it can completely screw the game.
I downloaded it directly and installed it manually and it worked perfect. Maybe this helps someone who has troubles with the patch. Unfortunately the car bug is still there but for me the game runs more smoothly with the patch than before.

Do you have the most recent updates of Twallans mods? If not all are updated now except the Woohooer and you should update if you haven't, you may have to restore your family from your backup save or start over. Also make sure to clear all your cache files, this can sometimes fix bugs and glitches.

I must say that I've really enjoyed this game so far. It's been a long time since I've played without cheating money or needs, but I decided to play for the last couple of days "pure".
The challenge was unexpectedly enjoyable.

Anyway, I'm only up to one toddler with my family. I spent most of the time just trying to make ends meet and save money to buy a decent family home. Is anyone able to buy a fancy house without the cheats??

As far as the new game goes, I love it so far. The stuff I've encountered that hasn't been mentioned in this thread:

The bachelor/bachelorette party!! OMG a stripper showed up! The party went to 4 in the morning and people were dancing on the kitchen counters! I was laughing out loud. There was lots of drinking and champagne spurting at each other. So much fun.

The body hair: There are at least three choices in the design of body hair, and most of it looks pretty good, especially if you match it to your root hair or make it a bit lighter so its not so harsh. You can make it look quite realistic.

The other no mosaic - not the Nraas one works too. I forgot to uninstall it and it still works well. (as do my guy bits)

There are a couple of new traits - Rebellious and Nurturing (good for daycare workers). I don't remember if there are others.

There are several new houses to choose from in your bin. A few are especially good for large families.

I agree with the other poster about the new men's clothing being much better.

I love the strollers!!! The babies/toddlers are so cute, pointing and laughing at things. You have to remember to tell your sim to come home from their stroll, they keep going and going...even when the baby is having needs.

The sandbox/turtle sux. It's just for decoration, my toddler couldn't interact at all, but the springy rocket toy is awesome:)

I love the medieval dress up box for kids, I can't wait to try it.

I'm going to post more later :)

I've been having a lot of fun with this EP. I've been playing with a family since that is what this EP is meant for. There is a dad, a mom, a teenager and twin girls who both have imaginary friends! They all live in a one bedroom house (Thank God for bunk beds!) and it has just been crazy, but a lot of fun. The imaginary friends prank every thing in the house and talk smack about the parents behind their back. The dad had a midlife crisis and the teen was having major mood swings. The laundry overflows like mad and it's all been great. XD

Not Generations related, but it is. The Sims Team HAS to fix that celebrity/agent situation. Freaking agent calls my family every five blessed minutes! Neither are celebrities! I don't even have a studio in the Sunset Valley I'm playing.

Which is another thing. I was under the impression that Sunset Valley had gotten a make-over. Not in any fashion I can see. It's the same old Sunset Valley in my game.

And it seems that MORE vampires than usual are being spawned. Roughly 50% of my game town is now vampire. All due respect to you all who play them, but I think they're ruddy boring and don't find them terribly amusing.

The teaching the teens to drive is just cute. So is the prom, rabbit-hole not-with-standing. Which leads to an odd glitch. My family's son went to prom with Lisa Bunch. They started going steady at the prom. He tried to call her to go on a date a week later and I keep getting a message that Russ doesn't know anyone well enough to ask on a date! :faceslap:

Overall, I'm finding this EP to be very cute. The charm isn't wearing off just yet. But I play as much as I build (the lack of new building items is a major disappointment).

Should people buy the EP? Well, I've been playing it almost non-stop since Tuesday morning and have found myself to be eager to play again. Something I hadn't been prior to the release of this EP. Content-wise, you may feel it best to wait until it hits the bargain bins to make it worth the money. It is a little thin on content for the buck. I'm not a story-teller, but I think there's a lot here for those who are to work with. Particularly with the family stories or potentially with the dating reputations.

After only playing a few minutes I already don't regret buying the EP. I love:

-Giving flowers. I love the variety in their meanings and how they give a great moodlet.
-The imaginary friend is so cute. I love how happy the kid looks playing with it.
-Bachelorette party!

The huge amount of playground equipment and odds and ends for the house and yard are also great additions. Yes it would have been nice to have some more kid in-house furniture, but the variety of tree houses, bunk beds, hop scotch sets, etc. is appreciated.

The memories are a bit annoying but I'm sure Twallan or Pescado will fix that.

I am enjoying all the new interactions between adults, my sim family don't have children yet. I wanted to start a new family and usually wait a while for kids. I read in the game loading tips that reading a sleepy child a skill book will give them a little boost in that skill. Have anyone tried it?

About the work out without breaking a sweat works for me too. My sim just finished a opportunity for working out without breaking a sweat for 3 hours.

First of all: I am playing without mods and cheats which I didn't have for a long time and I am enjoing it so far. I played a family now with two teenager and suddenly the parents got the oportunity for a vacation and left the teens alone. Then I threw a party and it was fun. I like the sleeping bag. No need for beds for the ones staying over night. And what was also good: the teens had more wishes in terms of interacting with their guests. I didn't have much time so this is the only thing that I've done with the new EP installed but this was real fun. I think this EP is obligatory for story makers.

3rd Jun 2011, 09:09 AM
The sleeping bags work in WA tombs, and are GREAT for that, since they go in a lot of places where a tent won't fit :) and you get a "snug as a bug" moodlet from em.

Wish there were more new Elder clothes, but the kids stuff is great, and a lot of clothes are enabled for athletic which is nice. For adult females, I especially like the hat with the lil veil, and the dress/jacket with the dragonfly pin.

Some of the new patterns are awesome :D Whole bunch in Themed, mostly suitable for kids but some have other uses as well, and there are a couple nice new fabrics.

And new walls and floors are great (for people complaining there's nothing for builders). Elegant coffered walls, especially... and the tiles, espeically the one with the seashells :)

Sandbox: toddlers can't use it, but kids can. I had one sim with the artistic trait... not sure if that was the reason but he couldn't stay away from it, was in there every time I turned my back on him. He got pretty good, was making some neat sand sculptures :)

NoMosaic: I've read elsewhere that (as usual) you'll be missing some of the new visual effects unless you update, or use Twallan's version.

Need to turn off memory notifications for sure, since memories can definitely be spammy, but it's fun looking through them, anyway, and making custom memories is a blast. I have some very cute pics in my albums. I'm also impressed at how much work went into that system... ambitions, WA and LN features are fully supported, so your sim gets memories from fighting a fire, exploring a tomb or befriending a celebrity.

Wish there were new LTWs... that's my biggest complaint.

By simply installing Generations without downloading any patches, it seems I may have avoided the problems all the other Mac users are having. Played for a couple of hours and no debug errors either. Whew! Finally for once no problems?

This EP seems pretty good so far, the only thing is that the improvements are more subtle than any other in the series. Seems that pillow fights are now restricted to bedrooms. I'm going to miss the epic pillow fights in the street, but it's probably for the best. I'd rather not have sims pillow fighting in my VIP lounges.

I'm enjoying the kids costume chest more than I thought I would. I love how each costume changes the walk style as well as open up a couple of new interactions. I'm also loving the new playground equipment. I improved the playground behind the suburban school in my neighborhood, it's so much better now. The "play on playground" interaction is a nice touch.

Just like with Late Night, the new music is great. Steve Jablonsky has gotten much better since the annoying base game stuff. Jimmy Eat World did a Simlish cover of Movielike which was a pleasant surprise. It would have been better if they did The Middle which is much more popular, but I think EA is only going after very new songs.

The canes for elders are interesting. I noticed there's a "Harass World" interaction when I clicked on the ground. Didn't try it, but I'm guessing that's the "darn kids, get off my lawn" interaction.

The video camera is nice. I like the added touch of realism where the cheap TVs do not work with them. The super sensitive camera movement though, that's unrealistic. Feels like I'm playing as Sonic the Hedgehog in an FPS game, not walking around normally! We NEED a mod to tweak that ASAP. :wtf:

The new graphic tee for females (one of the designs has a star on it) is enabled for all categories. Yikes, hope that's fixed in the next patch. On the upside, pretty much all the new clothes are great. My initial reaction to some of them was "Ha! That looks good enough to be something from the Store!" With Late Night I was satisfied with the ladies formalwear, but now there's even more choices with Generations. That muscle shirt for the kids must be some kind of inside joke among the developers. Did they seriously think we would use it?

I noticed the no new lifetime wants thing too. I was expecting one related to daycare...oh well. *shrug*

Overall I like this EP, but because there's no big overall addition to the game like open restaurants or weather, it would be difficult to say it's the best one. I think Late Night may still be holding that crown. Regardless, for people just getting into The Sims I do recommend getting Generations first because it adds a lot of things the base game should have already had.

BTW, was anyone reminded of the PS3 when they saw the new video game console? Here's a pic:

I generally don't focus so much on the little things in the Sims games.
However I have found a lot of enjoyment doing just that with this expansion.
All-in-all, it doesn't contain anything 'Big' like a new world, or anything of the likes.
But all of the many little things added together, in my opinion, make it a worthwhile Expansion. (At least by EA standards).

I would recommend it, and especially to storytellers and the likes. But expect it to take a few generations before you discover everything.

That's Sims2.

I have studied the ring fingers of my Sims conclusively and I have deduced that there is no automatic insertion of rings.

In the wedding ceremony they're exchanged, but they don't stay. Same for engagement ring. Post #162 suggested I was being stupid so I'm not going to dignify it with an answer.

I guess you have to do it yourself with the "accessories" in CAS? Seems strange that they would take that away in TS3, but it isn't the first strange thing to go missing from TS2 to TS3. I miss Maxis...

this expansion was so disapointing, the sims 3 is a poors man the sims 2 and the sims 2 is a poors man the sims, the franchise is slowly dying.
the only good thing in sims 3 is the open world but the expansions are second rate versions of old expansions imo.

Yeah in TS2 we could travel to other countries and see what our sims do at work. Give me a break dude

Ok, I just remembered something weird. After I installed Gen, I noticed that sometimes something goes poof above my sim's heads. It just makes poof and some smoke poofs. Wtf is that?

I finally have a first impression, as I got to play it a bit. So far, I've been playing my childless couple and it's been fun. They haven't done yet many Generation specific interactions, except going on dates and watching the towns adults and elders play hopscotch in the park. Currently my game is on hold until the romance bug in awesome gets fixed. It took me 5 Sim days and 5 Sim dates to notice that what I was experiencing was a mod problem. Until that time I thought the wife was the problem, as she's a bit moody, sorry Socha.

Hmm, I just realized that we didn't get a "free" objects download with this EP. First they take away the free Simpoints when you buy an EP, and now they don't even toss a few cheap objects our way? Hmph.

[EDIT] Thanks for pointing out that we got free objects when sharing memories! Also, I hadn't registered my game yet through the official site, and when I did, I got two outfits and phone. So I guess I was wrong all around. haha

I never considered the free points we got with the base game to be really free, because at least when I brought the base game, it was really expensive something over 60€ (50€ is a more normal price for games), and the first EP was 40€, when the free points were dropped, the EP's started costing thirty something euros. Now I got Generations for 30€.

So I can't really say I'm unhappy I have to pay 10€ less for an EP and not get 10€ worth of free points I neither want or need.

----edit---

A question, how do you get to splash champaign? My guy held a party, but I didn't see an interaction for it, nor did I find any special bottle in buy mode for it either.

I pre-ordered it, but it hasn't arrived yet. I checked my mail twice today, but still no luck. I have an extra day of weekend too, which means no mail and no Generations.

I'm so excited that I will probably be disappointed anyway.

There is a registration download. It's a guys top, a ladies top and an old timey phone. It's really not much but the guys shirt is good looking imo and I'm using it on my current sim.... there's also the memories upload bonuses

It's also going to be a lot easier making really tall hobbits, I guess.

Love generations so far!!

My only one concern is that I can't get the stroller to function properly. My sims put the toddler in the stroller, they walk two or three steps, and then take the toddler out and just walk with him in their arms. The stroller gets placed in the inventory. I don't see that anyone else is having this issue, so I'm guessing it is just a weird glitch on my part!

Other then that, it's been fun! :)

Sims will do that if hills are too steep. They do it in my game and Matrix said they were doing it too. I'm guessing it's intentional.

Generations is definitely a more subtle EP than any of the previous ones. But I just cracked up at the following chain of events in my game, which is the Bunch family in Sunset Valley: Lisa Bunch woke up with a mood swing from being a teenager, and immediately wanted to cut school and egg the neighbor's house (and how could I refuse). Lisa promptly got scolded (for skipping school) and then grounded (for egging the Bachelors' house) by mom Judy, and was looking at 2 days of negative moodlets. Less than a day into being grounded, dad Jack autonomously has a "Let off hook" interaction with Lisa, who's forgiven, and is then ungrounded. LOVE. Just like my mom and dad haha!

That might be for the best right now ;) did you patch? New EADM and ummmmmm so far I have a slight autoage problem in that all my played charactors are auto ageing early even though the sliders are correct. That is without the game installed.

I'd love to know this too. Anyone?!

One of the glitches that I've seen so far was when my couple went on a date and even after ending it few hours later, the game seemed to still think they're on a date. This lasted for 2 sim-days. Even when they ended it several times, it didn't help. It only got fixed after the male moved in after they got married.

Have the child relax in their bed, click on them and have the parent "Read to sleep". The parent goes to the bookcase and gets the book you have chosen and reads it to the child. The most difficult part of this interaction is keeping the child in bed. Sometimes it requires you telling the child to relax in bed more than once.

Post #162 answered it better than anyone else could.

I'm pretty sure that the Sims got rings before Generations, that's a base game thing, isn't it? Or am I reverting back to TS2 memories?

My Sims exchange rings in the have private wedding task, but I never checked to see if they have actual rings after. I dont have Gen yet so, but they do ring stuff in Sims 3.

Well, I caved and bought the game because I received some graduation money. My first impressions were meh, I immediately checked out the new aging options and after a couple of minutes of gameplay I went and turned off the memories identification. I saw the option for woohoo in the shower but I didn't get to check it out yet.

But, I did come across a surprise that I found to be extremely cute. I saw that the son was requesting the mom to do something, I had no idea what. And then it said "Read to sleep" as the mom got a book.

Has anyone yet worked out how to get the cheat to show up so you can edit your sims in CAS? I'm not sure if someones already answered you :$ but I entered "testingcheatsenabled true" into the cheat box, then holding down the shift button when I clicked on my sims it gave me the option to edit them in CAS. :) Hope this helps!

It sounds like there's a lot of good stuff in Generations but I have to say I'm surprised, so much of it seems to come with the new patch anyway. I'm excited about pets.
I normally don't install a new patch or EP until at least a month or so after it's released, when all of my favorite mods are updated. For me it's the modders that improve the game to a point where I want to play. Big props to you all!

I have a quick question, do I REALLY have to uninstall my WHOLE game to get rid of 3rd party content as EA says? I normally just remove it all to my desktop and completely clear all my caches then test new ep/stuff packs with no CC enabled. I took a chance doing that with Late Night and I had no issues. But maybe I was just lucky :s

Have fun folks!

I've read that some were able to fix this by moving the age sliders all the way to the left, then all the way to the right and then back into their intended position in order to fix this.

Thank you! After I downloaded Twallan's updated mods I finally was able to play my legacy family. It was good until almost all of my sims started having birthdays. I didn't mind the kids aging early but I didn't want their father to turn into an elder so I had to edit him in CAS. I will definitely try that slider trick.

As for Generations I think overtime I will come to appreciate it but the gameplay is very subtle. It will take a while to really see everything this expansion has to offer. Being a decorator type of player there was not that first rush of seeing all of the new objects and going "ooh, I can't wait to use this!" The new bunk beds will come in handy but it doesn't feel innovative thanks to our fantastic CC creators.

I did exactly like that but for some reason the option to read to sleep doesn't come no matter how many times I've tried. With both the kids biological dad (who has very good relationship with him) nor his step-mom. Does anyone else have the same problem? :(

I've never seen an option, as far as I know it appears randomly and automatically. I'll press the moodlet for tired to make my child go to sleep, and then he/she will automatically ask one of their parents to have a story read to them.

I'm enjoying it. I like some of the new interactions and the better weddings. I just wish that it had come with more wedding dresses. I had to uninstall and reinstall my game because the new patch wouldn't install. It had said something about a file being in game that wasn't suppose to be. I am enjoying playing the game mostly vanilla though. It had been a while since I had done so. I wont be fully satisfied until Awesome Mod is updated though. :p The game seems bear without it...

I got the interaction once. I had told the child to go to bed, then when he was sitting on the bed,but before he went under-cover, I accidentally clicked on the child or bed, and had the interaction. The next day, I tried to actually fulfil the want but couldn't get the interaction, had the child on the bed relaxing and everything.

Yea, I've only managed to get my sim to read to my child twice, each time I had to have my child's energy level way down (which I used testingcheatsenabled for). But I've also had his energy level down and I can't get the interaction to show up. So for me, it's pretty random when it does work, and when it doesn't.

My children will always automously ask an adult for a story if they go to bed autonomously.

THey also do it if you send them to bed by clicking on their sleepy moodlet.

They'll ask the butler if you've got one, which I think is sweet :)

Also, you can read em skill books!

What I find really annoying is that you can't do the interaction on bunk beds. In my legacy family, I instantly brought bunk beds (1st gen isn't even elderly yet, so I'm short on space and funds) but whenever the kid automatically wanted a bedtime story, he'd get into his parents bed, then I'd have to wake him up to go back to his own.

I had one of my explorer sims settle down and get married... she had one child and I figured why not another? She had effing twins. The night she brought those little monsters home was a bad night for them... they were crying hysterically along with the other child who was crying.

I sent the firstborn to a boarding school, but she didn't like it so her parents agreed to let her come home. Now, both parents have aged into adults and are going through their mid life crises together. :P

I gotta say, this new EP is actually quite enjoyable. Not nearly as many objects as other EPs, but there are a ton of new fun things for my sim kiddies.

it has worked good for me since i hasnt have crashes because of the mods, the stuff they added, being a non US user, well, not so interesting, the memories thing its cool, the imaginary friend, a bit (havent tried yet), but i dont know if you have this issue:

when you start in a default neighborhood like Bridgeport the NPC families appear with tagged names, i mean, if its one of the bartenders for example, they dont appear with their sim name, their names appear as "Mr. Comediant" or "Mr vampire japanese"
