I have to say that I am enjoying spiral staircases. There are just some spots where regular staircases won't work since we lost the capability to build stairs with landings without cheats.
But when you use a spiral staircase, what do you do with the opening at the top? Logically I know my little electronic toddlers aren't going to crawl over and plunge into the gap, but it just looks wrong to not have anything around the hole.

I just stuck it into a corner area, where it was surrounded by walls on three sides. It really doesn't look all that bad from the top.
However, I don't particularly care for the look of the spiral stairs in general. I don't like that we can see the round thing at the top from the lower floor - it just looks odd.

I find myself putting fences on the sides. I think it makes me feel better even though it does nothing.

Well, you download clutter so you can have magazines on the coffee table and towels and toilet paper hanging in the bathroom -- all of which will never be touched by the occupants, but make the house look more lived in. If you're going to do that, it only makes sense to put a fence around an opening in the floor because it looks so wrong.
If you look at photos of real houses with spiral staircases, they do put railings around them. I tried a few yesterday and didn't find one that I really liked with the stair cases, they don't really connect like fence railings on the modular. But I figure it's just a matter of time before somebody who can make stuff decides they want a spiral staircase with a different railing and then there will be some more choices and maybe some railings to match.

Or just objects with no passing issue to be places on top of spiral stair case would be ideal.
Something like round glass tubing with metal pole or simple round mesh of floor to wall balustrade.
I must say, it's hell ugly from the floor level upstairs with just a hole at the moment.

I also usually have them in Corners, so there's usually only one opening. But I am waiting for somebody to make a CC rail that fits nicely.

I put fences around the spiral stair. It look nice and suitable for classic house. The floor gap is not a big deal, because it's so little or almost unnoticeable. Covered by the fences.
I also enjoy the round hole with the floor gap, i don't know why people complain about it. It look very good and somehow better without the fences.

They have their own little tab under stairs.

I personally enjoy the spiral stairs. I'm not much of a builder, but they do come in handy when you're low on space. I put fences around the edges too. It just looks weird without them IMO.

Thanks! I'll check again.
