(A new thread from me? Shocking, I know.)

Anyway, there's a good chance you've heard of the new Tomb Raider planned for 2012, which had a trailer here (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-tomb-raider/714562). The game was intended as a sort of cultural reboot, presenting a Lara at the very start of her career, in present times.

E3 had an actual gameplay trailer, showing the gameplay as being survival horror rather than purely exploration as in Underworld or Legend's run-and-gun gameplay.

Warning, it's some grisly, compound fracture-looking stuff, when you consider no one's getting shot or chainsawed or the like. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7KNhWZ6EbU&hd=1)

I don't think the series needed a reboot, but at the same time, they seem to be bringing back the very detailed, very lonely environments of Underworld, and I'm very much intrigued by the direction they may be going with the survival/survival horror method (at the risk of sounding macabre, I really want more games where, if your character is injured, they have to continue with the injury or otherwise address it).

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else was interested in this.

OMG CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS!!!!111ONEELEVEN

I think that expresses my interest in the new Tomb Raider. I love the concept of this game, and how it's quite different to to previous games.

That is exactly what I don't like about Tomb Raider. Seeing Lara fall and hit the ground with a crack and seeing a rearranged Lara, or impalement. Because these are fatal, gamestopping deaths, it implies that Lara gets away with every adventure having missed zero ledges. Because if there is a Tomb Raider 2, then she must have performed perfectly in Tomb Raider 1. I have no idea what became her in the games after those because that was where I quit.

There are some photos of a woman named Allison Carroll playing as Lara. They are for the game or a movie, I think she is great. But if she is going to do splits then she needs to tan a little higher in the inner thighs.

Potentially, this might be fun. I played TR because, at the time, it was fairly unique and interesting and I enjoyed it. I didn't play the later iterations though and the T. Rexes always scared me half to death. It got repetitive after the first two and I stopped about half way through the third one. I quite like the look of that video though I'd have to see a review of the full game before I thought about buying it.

I'm actually wary of one particular thing--namely, this will likely not feature Lara "Wooing" her enemies with her trademark two pistols (because...John Woo...you know) and acrobatic abilities. At the same time, TRL took that way too far, so they might as well try the opposite diretion, and from a standpoint of plot, it makes sense (this is a young Lara, before she killed everyone who stood in her way).

I think it LOOKS amazing, the graphics are gorgeous! My brother is going to be so pissed when I'm on the xbox longer than he is, hehe. Hope the camera isn't batshit temperamental like previous installments, though. That is highly irksome! :faceslap:

I'll definitively buy it, but one thing I will say is that like many of the people in the comments, I turned down the sound on my speakers in case my Dad thought I was watching porn. :D Seriously, the combination of the heavy breathing and the 'oh my goddddd' and the 'get off me!' made me cringe. :giggler:

Yeah, I remember hearing a lot of people describing the video as "injury porn". For better or worse, that's pretty much guaranteed to any game that actually tries to render pain and injury in a complex manner.

By the looks of the gameplay, they could have called it "Tomb Evil" or "Resident Raider"... :P
I just hope that with all that water around, Lara can actually look a bit more clean sometimes... :D

i agree. The series did NOT need a reboot. It was good like it was. But underworld kind of closed the book. She lost her home, lost alistar, found her moms true fate, killed natla, made up with amanda. Book closed. However im gonna miss the old tomb raider.

I don't think it really closed the book, in so much as Crystal Dynamic's demonstrated capability--the game can obviously go on without Allistar or Natla (though some people would rather it didn't).

Frankly, I'm kind of tired of the whole Norse Mythology shtick anyway. But, this is the way they decided to go, and I'm all right with that.
