View Full Version : Unintended underwater basement

So, I have no idea what's gone wrong here, so and help would be appreciated. I've trawled the forums a bit to see if there is already an answer to my problem, but I couldn't find anything- apologies if it exists and I just haven't found it.

Anyways, I'm building a house mostly nestled into a hill. I raise the front of the lot by the 4 clicks minimum for a stair, and then I build in all the foundation at that level. Halfway back on the house, I have the terrain back at street level, effectively putting it at 8 clicks below the level of the main floor, and then it descends down a hill to be at the 12 clicks below floor level for the basement. So far, so good.

However, after I build, if I move the lot or place it into my lots catalog and then replace it on the neighbourhood, the water automatically appears, the ground goes sandy, and I can't work out what it is that is doing this. The sandy ground and water persists in the neighbourhood terrain even after I remove the house.

I'm using a neighbourhood that is as flat as I can find, for the most part, and the lot I build on is totally flat around the edges, as per the suggestions for uploading lots here on MTS. The neighbourhood template was for "DesiderataValley.sc4".

The only thing I can think of is that I'm using all three types of foundation- the foundation, the latticed deck, and the column deck- could this somehow be affecting it?

I've tried rebuilding the foundations in on a different lot to see if it was the place in the area, I've tried restarting the game to see if the game was temporarily having a dippy moment. Neither worked.

I've included pics of the problem. The first two show the issue as I have encountered it, from front and back, and the third pic is where I have just recreated the foundation level conditions and then moved the lot to see if it was a universal problem. This is the first house in that neighbourhood with a usable basement- all but one of the other houses I have built there have no basement, although some have foundations, and there is no problem moving those around. The other part finished build I have with a basement is also effected by the "move it and water appears" problem.

The fourth and fifth pics are what I'm taking my inspiration for the build from, and I've included them so you have some idea of what I ideally want to end up with, more or less.

Thanks in advance for any help guys.

And man, am I glad I found this problem before I had it all finished and ready to upload, or indeed when other people downloaded it...

Your lot is too close to the neighborhood water level. Try moving the lot on top of a hill.

It's very similar to what would happen if you tried to build a real house where the water table was high... the basement would flood.

If you still have the problem when you move the lot on top of a hill, please let us know.

Thanks muchly! Problem solved; it does indeed work if I place the lot somewhere higher up, and also if I "prebuild" a hill for my house to sit on, that therefore does not require the basement to be built any lower than the ground level for the lot.
