View Full Version : Crash and Patch Issues

(I searched through the FAQ but couldn't really find a solution.)
Every time I patch the game, it fails. I restart my computer like it wants me to, and when I try to open the game it says something along the lines of "You are attempting to install (previous patch). You have (current patch) already installed. Please uninstall (previous patch) blah blah blah." And it won't even let me open the launcher. I tried to get a picture of the error message, but it won't show up again.
Before that I just played the game without patching it. I can only get to the point where I have to gussy up in the upstairs mirror. As soon as the mirror comes into view, my game freezes, crashes, and gives me a blue screen. Then my laptop restarts itself.
Help please?

if it keeps happening, you'll have to reinstall your entire game. Unless someone knows a super-ninja way to uninstall one of these patches? Be sure to back up your saves and ach package.

When I uninstalled it, I didn't keep my save file 'cause I thought I had to completely remove the game. Would keeping my save file backed up and uninstalling the game make a difference?

If this attempted patching is being done through the Launcher, try downloading the patches and running them manually. They can be had at patches-scrolls.de and a few other places. I think there are four of them, and you have to do all of them, in the correct order of course. I don't think there is a cumulative all-in-one patch.

I apologize for my incompetence, but how would I go about doing that?

Here is the link with the files. http://www.patches-scrolls.de/sims_medieval.php#20114
Notice the top one is the newest, but it is for Mac only, so you don't need it if you are on a PC. Download the other four, notice there are two kinds of them, one for CD/DVD, meaning you bought the game in a store, you have the disc version of the game; or digital download, meaning you downloaded the entire game from the EA website or Store. So choose the correct type for you.
Save these four files to your harddrive somewhere (outside of your game installation), don't try to run them from the website. When you have them, you only need to double click the file to run it, they are .exe files and start up and find your game installation by themselves.
Start with the 1.1 file, then the 1.2, the 1.3.13 and lastly the 2.0.113. If the first one doesn't want to work and gives you similar error messages, this is likely because you are already on the 1.1 game, then try the next file.

if that fails (It shouldn't) and you DO have to reinstall to downgrade, backing your saves/saved sims folders is a great way to pick up where you left off.

Is it a genuine copy or bootleg torrent?

It's a genuine copy.
@Shimrod101 Your advice seems to have solved things, hopefully for good. Thank you. :) Do I need to keep the patch files, or can I trash them?

You can trash them if you want to. The only reason you would need them again is if you need to do a complete reinstall of the game, in which case you could download them again.

I keep all my patch files on an external for easy sharing, lol
