View Full Version : Internet cuts out

Hey sorry if this isn't in the right section but I only made this account so I could ask this question.
So I got a new computer and installed all my Sims 2 games and it was all fine. But when I went to play this message came up:
Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics... blah blah blah.
So I updated my drivers somehow and now it works fine. The only problem is, as soon as Sims starts the wireless internet in my house cuts out. I have no idea why, as Sims doesn't use the internet anyway.
So any information anyone has would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Your post is off-topic for the thread you posted in, as the gist of the post has nothing to do with that OP's Computer Upgrade question, so I've split it into its own thread. Please don't hijack threads in the future.

This happens only when playing Sims 2? Do you have a DVD version or a downloadable Digital version? If Digital, from where? And just the base game? Has it been patched?
Are you using Launcher when this happens? And this is the first time playing Sims 2 (at all or on this machine)?

Did you also update DirectX when you updated graphics drivers? How about the wireless drivers?

Again, sorry for that. I wasn't sure where else to ask.

I've had Sims 2 for years on other computers with many expansion/stuff packs and I've never had this problem before.

Yes, only when playing Sims 2. I have many expansion packs installed and they're all original disks. It hasn't been patched either. If Launcher is the message that comes up and asks me to press play, then yes I am using it.

I only updated the graphics drivers I think from nvidia.com. I've just checked and it says the version of DirectX I have is DirectX 11. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, as Sims works fine now, it's only the internet problem. And to be honest, I don't even know how to check what wireless drivers I have.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Can you elaborate further on this "Net disconnection problem? You have multiple systems and when you start Sims 2 on this one PC, the other systems lose the Internet connectivity?

This is the first time trying Sims 2 on this PC, then?
Patch your games first - go to SimsPrograms to download the patches as the EA site has been down awhile.
And test if this issue happens when you bypassed the Launcher. Game_Help:Bypassing_Launcher

What is the driver version that you downloaded from Nvidia.com? Is it for the correct Operating System?
OR better yet, post Game Help:System Specs.

Yes, my other divices (iphone, laptop) lose connectivity when i start Sims 2 on the main computer connected to the modem.

Yes this is the first time I have installed it on this computer. I patched all of my games and I also bypassed the Launcher, yet the problem hasn't been resolved.

On Nvidia.com, this is what it says about my driver:

Product: NVIDIA GeForce GT 520

Current Installed Driver: 280.26

Latest Driver Update: Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time.

Have you tried disconnecting the Sims PC from the router and loading the game? How does that affect the other devices' connectivity?
Or connecting directly via the Ethernet port on the PC and disabling wireless?

I suspect it is a router or modem issue though.
What is the router model, by the way? Update firmware and all that?
I found these, dunno if it might help.

Specs look good for the game and I see you have the newest AMD APU processor. :)

I just tried diconnecting the Sims PC from the router and it had no effect. My iphone still lost connectivity. You'd think that would fix the problem since the computer isn't even connected to the internet, but I guess not.

I think you're right about it being a router/modem issue. I googled my router model (at least what I think is my router model - TG782T - and other people are having a similar problem when playing World of Warcraft).

So I think I'll call my ISP and see what they can do about it.

Thank you so much for your help and time. You really have helped me A LOT :)
