View Full Version : Sims don't use bars as tables

I noticed that when cooking food, the sim doesn't count the bar as the closes surface to place the meals on when finished.
The extent of my modding experience for TSM has been to convert a hair from TS3 following the stickied tutorial.
I wondered if there was perhaps a checkbox if you could load the bar item's file into s3pe to make it count as a surface similar to tables? I browsed through all the package files in the Sims install but didn't see what I was looking for.

I don't believe there is any easy way to do this.
Whether an object can be placed on another object I believe is controlled by object slots. Slots are like a characters bone, but intead of attaching a vertex to it an object is attached to it. Objects may also require a specific slot to be attached to, so even if the bar had a slot it would only be for bar items.
I know part of the object slotting is contained in _RIG files, but I assume there are other associated files (CAS Parts also use a BONE file among others). The _RIG files are different from sims 3 _RIG files, and are no longer viewable with TS3 tools.
If you have an interest in advanced modding I may be able to help you figure out more.

Thank you for the explanation Grim.
So it's more complicated than I had thought it would be. I modded a little for Oblivion but that was mostly retextures and stuff. I never got to into the rigging or meshing.
If it's something that can be done with a free program like Blender I'd love the help but unfortunately I can't really pay for any software.
