View Full Version : How Do I Edit the "Official" Name of a World?

Every so often I'll get a popup message in-game that alerts me that my Sim is being honored for their work at Town Hall, or that they have advanced in their self-employed "career", etc. For EA-made worlds, there's no problem. But I've noticed that for custom worlds (at least the custom worlds that I've personally played), the place where the name of the world is obviously supposed to go is blank.

I'm in the process of creating my own world, and I'd like it to be as perfect as I can make it. So is there any way to fix this?

In case my description is confusing (a very real possibility), I've attached a screenshot showing exactly what I'm talking about. Notice the double-space where the name of the world should go. Excuse the picture quality; to get the pop-up in the image, I had to use print-screen instead of the in-game camera, meaning the image came out dark and nasty. I cleaned it up as best as I could.

It should be that all you have to do is right click on the global layer in CAW and then go "Edit Description". Just put your world's name there and it should work. If not, I have no idea. It could be that its one of those things that EA, in their infinite wisdom have overlooked.

Haven't gotten far enough to worry about world descriptions and thumbnails yet, lol. However, the name was already filled in, leading me to believe it's something more. Thanks, though, you still gave me info I didn't have before! XD

I didn't even know that was there! lol, how did you manage to test the world in game then ;)
(you can't export without giving a name, description and a thumbnail)

I think Caitie had tested another custom world and encountered that issue and was wondering how to fix it for when he/she finishes their own world. At least, that's how I understood it.

And TVR's suggestion is exactly what I was going to say; as that's the only thing I can think of when fixing naming in a custom world. Although, I've never encountered that specific problem (as far as I'm aware).

I noticed it when playing someone else's world, and just wanted to know for when I reach that point in my own world.

It's not something that would come up that often, not unless you were actively playing a world. I don't know if it would come up in testing, unless it was a pretty in-depth test, lol. And I suppose it isn't that big of a deal, in the long run; it's just a little detail, but it's one I'd like to be able to fix in my own world.

Also, I'm a "she", lol. XD

Do any custom worlds show up in these messages? I'm wondering if the game is looking at the STBL resources associated with the worlds, instead of the WDNM.

For example, if you make your own version of the EA worlds by editing them in CAW, you'll see that all of the names and lot names will be replaced by a reference, something like EPx:lotname:swamp01. This is because the world text strings are stored in STBLs, which will not work for an edited version of the world. SO perhaps the game is looking in the STBL and not in the world file itself.
