Hello, fellow MTSers!
Are any of you planning on participating in NaNoWriMo (http://www.nanowrimo.org) this year?
I'm sort of pumping myself up to do it. I participated in 2009, but never got over 20.000 words. The goal, for those who are uninitiated, is to write 50.000 words over the course of November. It's quite fun, and you should consider it, because we can be all supportive and all those other fuzzy things of each other. I mean, if that's your thing. I wouldn't, personally. I'm not a bra; I don't support.

I didn't plan to participate, but I was already writing a novel a month ago!

It sounds like a cool idea. Writing a 50000 word novel in a month is a challenge. I'm glad we can write in any language we want to. Writing in my native language would be even more challenging because Polish words tend to be longer but sentences shorter than English.
So, you join?
As for me, I'm not into novel-writing so much. If just a Sim-stories, I can do it. But if a novel, it's extremely challenging for a lazy person like me. So, no.

I wish I had the time (and motivation :().
I had plenty of opportunities to do NaNo in the past, but 50k words is just too much for me. I'd love to see who is participating here though. :)

That's actually a major thing to take into consideration. I wrote in Danish last time I participated, and I did feel like my word count was taking a huge hit every time I wrote something that would require two words in English but only one in Danish.

I'm participating this year. *points to the shiny new avatar* First-timer, I'm pumped to procrastinate MOAR on coursework.

Actually I've just signed up as a young writer. The first time ever. I know I'll never make it to the 50k, so this seemed like a better idea for me. I'm not really sure how well it'll go though. And neither have I really decided on my goal or whether to write in English or Danish.

Not this year, I'm starting my math course soon and math and I don't get along. So I need super concentration!

I did last year and the year before and made my goal... but not this year. Too many other commitments. Best of luck with the challenge though.

I don't participate officially, but I kind of do by making it my work-extra hard on my novels month. I make that the month I the month I write at least 2,000 words a day.

I'm GOING to start, soon. Tomorrow I think. I have some catching up to do. It took me a while to figure out how Nanowrimo actually WORKS - turns out it's pretty much just plain old writing but with a community aspect there to encourage you and a potential prize for getting it done...though participating in the community aspect seems totally optional. It's a bit strange. But I'm going to give it a try.

I started with a bang, but I'm devolving into a whimper. I have a serious problem with constantly editing as I go which is hampering the story, but also I'm just not too interested in where I've placed one of my protag's at the moment. Blargh.
@DrowningFishy: I'm seriously just lucid writing at this point to get some words on the page. Maybe you should try writing like its your journal and see if you get any ideas that way? I'm not very good at the creative process, so that's my extremely lame advice.

Eh older people just take longer to get started then once we get going we really get moving fast-even though it's usually towards the floor.

I think I've pretty much packed it in on this whole idea. It turns out that I don't find writing drivel for the sake of a word count all that fun. You could easily write 50k words with some dedication, but the amount of editing you'd need to do ... I'm not sure it's worth it. I tried to restart a novel I began some time ago. I might just pick up where I left off rather than restart. If I decide to continue trying this. I know, it's against the rules, but it's not like the novel is anywhere near complete.

Oh, I don't think there's any way on Earth that I'm going to make it this year. I'm just sort of poking at it for right now.

How does the competition check if I *really* started the novel in this month?

It doesn't. But would you feel good about getting a winner's diploma by cheating?

And here I was thinking to enter the contest in hopes to get at least one guaranteed reader.
