So, my sim is a level 9 rider and she should have be able to ride bareback since level 5 but I can't figure it out.
Whenever I click "mount" she automatically puts the saddle on, and when I clicked "unsaddle" on the saddle options she climbed off the horse again. There just doesn't seem to be a bareback option.
Can anyone help?
PS: I don't have any cc installed incase anyone asks.

Click horse -> saddle... -> saddle -> leading. Then click horse again and choose mount.

Dayum, you beated me to that.
Anyhow, riding your horses bareback is possible, I think, when the riding skill is maxed out.

Gelis thank you so much! I was confused over this as well.

would be nice if there was an invisible saddle/bridle option. i could then not feel so funny about having my native american sims go riding.

I use the really lightweight English bridle and recolor it with one of the weave patterns to look like rope.

If you color it right, the metal pattern that looks like gold chainmail also makes a pretty good braid.

This has actually just been done at the Ninth Wave Sims. www.theninthwavesims.com/2011/11/sims-3-invisible-horse-accesories-for.html :)
I had no idea how to ride bareback before I read this thread either lol.

I know for a fact it's possible, but I never was able to do it until I mastered the level. Then I couldn't get my simmie to stop riding bareback.
