View Full Version : Pet skills not going up?

My cat, who has the traits Genius and Hunter, hasn't been able to gain the hunter skill at all--the blue bar has gone up a tiny fraction, and that's it, even though she spends quite a bit of time hunting.
Is this a mod issue, and if so, does anyone know which mod it could be? Or is this something else entirely? (I can't wait for the faster skill gain mods to be adapted for this version, let me tell you.)

Very likely a mod issue. It's expected that gameplay mods won't work after a patch... very brave of you to even try playing with any un-updated mods in place ;)
Here's a guide to figuring out what might be causing your problem: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Finding_Problem_Custom_Content

if you have the Book of Spells from the Sims Store, this conflicts with the hunting skill. you either need to uninstall it, or use Twallan's Overwatch mod.

How do I uninstall the book? I never bought it per se, I only buy the monthly compilations. I believe it's in the July 2011 Compilation but I removed that .package file and the items are still there. Help? I don't see it in downloaded or installed content explicitly. Could it also be in Hidden Springs?

NM, Overwatch fixed the issue for me. Thanks.

Oh, I'm not brave--after the debacle I had with my mods the first time I tried playing Pets, I removed 'em all and only put in updated mods. I'll take a look at the link, though. Thanks!

I read on MATY that there is some connection between the book and the HS fountain.

That is so annoying. Do you know if they've fixed it?
I've never used Overwatch before. Anything I need to know about it? And how would I use it to fix the spellbook?
Thanks for the info!

The fix is automatic. Simply install the mod.

The Overwatch is automatic. You don't need to do anything special in-game with it. It just does its thing automatically without you needing to do anything else besides install it. You'll know it's working as it'll pop up a message about the Overwatch when you first run the game after installing it.

Link to the mod? http://www.the-isz.com/nraas/index.php?/topic/2013-the-overwatch-phase-five-version-43-updated-2011-oct-23/page__pid__37512#entry37512 there you go, next time :google: or click the link on Twallan's singature.
The mod goes your Mods -> Packages folder as any other .package file. That is all you need to do. Just place the Overwatch mod in your Packages folder.

its work ty but now it said 51 cars have been removed why is that
You don't need to make a new post if you just want to add to your previous one... you can use "Edit Post" :)
That's one of the things that Overwatch does. The game has a bug where it spawns dozens of cars every day for NPCs, which slow the game down; Overwatch removes the extra cars.
BTW, if you continue to have bugs and errors in your game, this isn't really the place to post about them. Go to the Help menu, and read through the FAQs there. If the FAQs don't resolve the issue, you'll find a link to the Game Help forum where you can get help resolving game problems.
And for help with mods from other sites, like Twallan's, you can post in the forums where you got the mod :)

I wasn't entirely sure, because of something I read (and apparently misunderstood) in the Readme. However, I just installed it, there are no (apparent) problems, and Verve's hunting skill has started to go up, so thanks! I don't think I got a message about Overwatch (unless it shows up in the bit about all the other mods that have been installed), but I did get a notice about a ton of cars being deleted. I assume that's OK, and they'll show up again as their owners drive them around. Thanks for the help!

Overwatch fixes an issue where the game constantly generates new cars for townie sims, by removing all the superfluous cars every night. This was really causing performance issues in the game.

ok, i know this isnt really the "OMG PLEASE HELP ME" section, but this thread is addressing exactly my problem, and i tried uninstalling the book everyone mentioned, and...nuthin. i went to the link for overwatch, and it sounds all kinds of fantastic, EXCEPT... what is it going to do to my existing families? what about the families i have a bazillion copies of in my "library" cause something happened that i didnt necessarily like, so i saved under a different name? like it said, it's an extensive mod, if something can go wrong, it will.
i read something about "back everything up" well, ya'll caught me. i dont even know what that means. and i'm tech flicted enough i probally couldnt figure it out if someone tried to hold my hand through it.
SO... if i was to just decide to go on a wild rampage, and delete all my families. ALL of them. every last one of them i've "touched" with the save key... then i decide to install this wonderous sounding mod (and a few others that sounded smurfy on that page) would that avoid all the sillyness of needing to reinstall the game?
OR, am i going to need to just take an hour and cry it out, uninstall ALL the games, reinstall them, (i assume that'll wipe out all my tinkering with pixel dna) then, before i touch so much as a hair on a sims head, install the aforementioned mods?
i know i sound stupid, i apologise. i know this probally isnt the right spot for this. but really, the perfect solution for me would be one where i dont need to install any mods at all. i've been running modless for this long, and it's almost been a battle of wills.
give me a halfassed game will you EA? i'll just play that halfassed game and enjoy the hell out of it just to spite you...

backing up your save files: just go to documents> Electronis arts>The sims 3>Saves
Then copy your save files to other place (eg. Desktop)
Well, it is your own choice to mod or not your game, but if you ask me. I'm using most of twallan's mod, and my game runs smoothly (as long as you use the right version to the right patch level)

i'd almost rather just start over. so, if i just uninstall everything, and reinstall it, will that get rid of everyone who might be a problem? then install the mod/s in question, then put back the damn book that is causing the problem. then start playing again. will that work? can i reinstall barnacle bay? with it's magical piece of paper i paid 20$ for that and a cd case?
i can convince myself i'm a vengefull enough "pixel god" that i visited a terrible plague of pixel herpies upon them that killed them all...
i've never had to uninstall and reinstall, i'm beyond lost here. i wont miss any of these sims that bad. some of them i messed up on so bad, it's just been an experament in torture anyway.
sure i "should" back them up, but i'm not sure saving a dozen copies of one failed challenge family sounds like the best idea either.
i just found out part of all this is moot anyway, since cant find the code to my late night disk . it's around here somewhere, but i'll be damned if i'm going to tear apart my house RIGHT NOW to find it so i can reinstall. i'll try this "backing up" thing, but it feels wrong, i like the "fly by the seat of the pants" feeling
wish me luck

Good luck Somethingelse ;) But I'm now locking this thread, since it's turned into a "OMG PLEASE HELP ME" thread when, as you know, we have a whole forum just for that. With really helpful people who will answer all your questions.
