View Full Version : Prepopulated worlds not working with pets in CAW?

I've been trying desperately to add Pets things to a version of my Morikipo Island, but am constantly getting errors when saving in CAW- if I try overwriting an old version using "Save As" CAW crashes entirely, and if I use Edit in Game, I can no longer open that one in CAW, getting an error saying it is "Unable to Load File"

One of the 'overwrite' attempts that didn't instantly crash when trying to save cannot load saying "Cannot load a Packed File {0} in the Sims 3 Create a World Tool - Beta"

These problems are not happening at all with my work-in-progress world that is not pre-populated, and so I'm reaching the conclusion it has to do with the population, but I'd like to know if anyone else is having this problem before I try nuking the population (besides which, if it's erroring now it might again if I try repopulating).

The populated world was populated using the Porter technique, I have not created any pets yet, I've been just trying to alter/create lots in EIG first.

I've asked Twallan to have a peek at Porter and see if that's the issue. I have worrisome suspicions that CAW can't handle pets, similar to it not handling ghosts and mummies.

This world has no pets though from Porter- I'm just trying to add Pets lots to my Generations save of Morikipo Island. All it has are human Sims, including vampires that I'd made in EIG back in the Late Night version.

Haven't even begun to try adding pets to the families either in EIG, just building lots, and then saving, and it's pfft.

bakafox, it sounds a lot to me like memory issues- Pets seems to have upped the resource requirements somewhat, and I had a lot of save failures in EIG too. The 'packed file' thing indicates missing resources- in other words, the world didn't save correctly.

If the world is particularly large it could be that CAW/EIG is just running out of memory- what are your system specs, and do you have the CAW exe LAA?

Perhaps if you have an older backup you could try adding the lots/ editing the lots before you populate?

I have 4GB RAM and do have it set LAA. Before LAA I had crashes even in CAW, editing lots and such. Now I can do anything in CAW itself... when I do EIG, it tells me it saved successfully, but then that file winds up erroring/no longer working, despite having been told it saved.

Do you have all EPs and SPs fully patched, and your game compatibility versions correct? Kiritra noted that EIG errors can be caused by these problems:

Check that all of your gameversions are current:

Yup fully patched. EIG and re-opening and such works for other worlds of mine, there's just this one world that does this.
