Ok, this may be a stupid question......I am new to CAW and want to make a world with only footpaths....where are the footpaths? Or are they just custom sidewalks? Thanks in advance :P

Ya, they're just the custom road sidewalks. :)

They are just custom sidewalks that use opacity maps. They can look a little weird at intersections though.

I haven't tried a world with ONLY sidewalks, but I like a pretty primitive world myself, so I'd be curious how that works with children going to school (where the bus picks them up).

A way to fix the weirdness at intersections is to lay a custom sidewalk with a stand-in normal texture and opacity, to make sure you like it and routing's right. Once you have it laid out, terrain paint under it with a proper trail-like thing. Then make an opacity .png that is solid white.

This will make the sidewalk turn completely invisible and the trail you made under it will show. (Pity it can't be done for roads)

Example from a current project of mine:

Under those pavers/dirt is an actual sidewalk that curves around to touch lot edges. I can add more in CAW of the terrain (and in the lots themselves) to make them feel even more connected.

Edit:
Forgot to mention- when a world is being zoomed in and out of in game, the sidewalk MAY show up briefly as graphics load, but it'll vanish properly once settled into the game and be invisible from distance or close up.

Forgot to mention- when a world is being zoomed in and out of in game, the sidewalk MAY show up briefly as graphics load, but it'll vanish properly once settled into the game and be invisible from distance or close up. Which is why I usually use closely matching texture as the sidewalk base :) When you zoom out, it still looks like a dirt path, just with heavier edges.
