View Full Version : CAW,PETS,LAA equals Error

I was happily working on my world with no problems. I do use LAA and have used it since Late Night so I know how to save, backup and update.
Installed Pets and "fixed" my CC with the Rig fixer.
Played Pets for about a day and all seems to be ok.
Updated CAW and went back to try to work on my world but I get the infamous "out of memory" error.
Hmmmmm.......checked and rechecked LAA.......uninstalled and installed both LAA and CAW.
Opened Riverview in CAW with no errors or problems. (Took a short tour of the new objects available in metadata. Cool new trees, rocks, billboards and flag banner, btw.)
Tried to open my WIP again ......... "out of memory" error and crash!!
Tried to open an older backup of my WIP and same thing. About to cry :(
Soooo......what next?? My thought is to try to open my WIP without the mods folder installed. I'll go back and try this while waiting for any help......
I hope somebody out there has a suggestion. I was about 80% finished with my world and I'm anxious to test it out soon.

Have you tested it with all in-game CC removed? Also try deleting your CAW caches and LocalWork folders.

      Yaaaaaay!!!
First, I want to thank Simsample for his quick reply and suggestions...
However...I was dreading the task of removing the CC in my downloads folder bcuz I failed at sorting that stuff a long time ago......... :faceslap:
I did delete caches and Localwork folders and moved my Mods folder to desktop...Nope, didn't help.
I tried one more thing..... I added the CAW exe. to LAA (along with TS3EP05) and set both to "true". I don't know and not sure if I was supposed to be doing that in the first place but it worked!!
Or I should say - something worked!! My WIP opened up in CAW and I'm back in business!! Maybe this too will help someone else in the future.
 Happy Simming everyone!

Well done for fixing it, divalbw2! That tutorial is linked through the announcement at the top of the forum, and I'm always updating that, so if you ever get any problems it's a good place to start. :)
I'm glad you got it working!

I came here to try to find a problem to my crashes. Everything is as the OP says. I can't play the game as when I try to save it crashes, I can't use EIG as when I try to save it crashes.
Now not only did I try removing CC and Mods, in a fit of rage I renamed my EA folder to bak, then let the game install a whole new clean folder, so there can't possibly be anything in there causing an issue.
Still no good.
Searched google, found CFF explorer and followed the instructions to fix my .exe's.
Still no luck
Searched google and found the Crash Log Analyser tried that three times, every time it comes up with LAA is the cause. Ok so downloaded LAA and allowed the tool to work itself.
Nope, still having those crashes.
If it was just CAW, I'd think there must be a dodgy lot or something, but it isn't, it's happening in a normal game, I just can't save. I can play for a long period of time, but no save, whether I try save or save as.
Also, on one of my attempts with the game I started up and my world wasn't there. I mean the game I was playing was no longer in the scroll bar to choose. You know where it says which world it is and what family you are playing is in the icon? Checked the folders, world still installed, check, world caches, check, save game still there check.
I'm completely at a loss right now and I'm thinking my only solution is to uninstall the whole thing and then reinstall, I get a headache just thinking about that.
Now I was silly, I did allow the launcher to give me the pets store patch after I installed the EP. I usually never allow the game to patch until I'm installing the next disc and I let the disc do it for me..
Oh I have 4 gig of RAM in and because I'm on XP, I can only access 3 gig, no problems there. I also have 323 gb of free space on my C drive.

Fluttereyes, it could be that you have a version mismatch. Try the things in this thread:

That's linked to in the forum announcement, too.

Simsample, thanks for a speedy reply, will go do that
EDIT***
It's not CAW that's broken. I did download the latest. I always uninstall CAW before installing anything then I download a new one and install that.
Anyway, my normal game is crashing too, it's not just CAW and CAW only crashes in EIG, it's the game itself that has an issue.
I'm an idiot, I was looking in the my documents for the default.ini for CAW

STEP 2 Locate your game folder, by default:
32 Bit Operating System: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\[Latest EP or SP intalled]\Game\Bin
64 Bit Operating System: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\\[Latest EP or SP intalled]\Game\Bin
As you say that your game is crashing too, have you checked that you have no old framework files left?
See 'remove the old way' here:

No, I don't have anything left, I regularly scrub my PC, plus I always defrag before installing anything. I also degrag/clean up after uninstalling.
Right now I'm using Revo to completely clear the lot off my PC, then I'll go for a reinstall. I don't see that there's much else I can do right now and no point going all over trying this and that when it could well be the install itself that's become corrupted somehow.
I won't install that final Pets patch and test without it. I know it's only for store stuff anyway (allegedly) and I have a tool here to fix all of that anyway.
If I don't come back, you'll know the full uninstall and reinstall worked.
Oh, Revo, I use that as it gets rid of all old registry entries and documents too, after that I go regedit and see if any more of those wee boogers are still hanging around. Then when I'm happy my PC is clean, I reinstall, so technically this should sort it if it's an issue with the game or install.

The store stuff patches only place a file in the doeuments folder, they don't actually amend the game data files in any way.
It would be nice if you could let us know if you do fix it, as others will be able to benefit from your solution.

Yeah thanks SS. I'll tell you what I've done so far and I know that if this game doesn't work it won't be any problem with this PC or the installation.
I used revo uninstaller to uninstall all of the Sims 3 and CAW, I use this as it does a registry cleanup and documents clean up too, that way you get a spotless install. I have had issues before when an uninstall and reinstall has done nothing for me, but if that registry isn't cleared, it's not a true uninstall. A free version of Revo can be found Here (http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html). Be sure to get the free one, anyone who is doing this.
I then did a regedit search for anything to do with Sims 3, and deleted them.
I deleted all unused programs with revo too. I ran ccleaner, defragged with auslogistics defraggler, for good measure I bout the auslogistics boost speed to to optimise my PC, got it half price because I declined the first price.
So my PC is as smooth as a baby's bum. Now I'm reinstalling and only allowing it to patch when I'm asked by the disc.
Must remember to reset my DEP settings, lol.
I'll let you know how I get on, I have all EP's and SP's so this will take some time.

Make sure you fully patch the EPs and Sps- CAW has problems when they aren't fully patched. If you're running Win 7 or Vista then be sure to install to somewhere other than the Program Files or Program Files(x86) folder.
I personally would not let any third party program have admin priveleges to edit my registry, unless I knew exactly what it was going to do, but that's just me.

I'm just about to test the game out, I'm all installed.
As for third party, Revo is a reputable piece of kit by a known company, I use it all the time. If you know anything about registry entries it's fine, as you see what is to be deleted and you select which ones can stay or go.
It's fully patched as you can't install the next disc without patching the one before, I did it how I always do it and it worked fine till Pets. Though in my own experience, it's usually the patches that cause the issue with CAW.
I'll let you know in ten if the game is saving, then tomorrow, if it's working, I'll install CAW and see if I can get my world to work without crashing.
EDIT*** Yep, saved and quit just fine, I'll put CAW in before adding any content and see if it works
EDIT2*** Ended up testing CAW while waiting for Big Brother to come on, it saved fine and didn't shut down. I haven't put my store stuff back in yet so haven't been prompted for that second patch, I think I'll just leave that out until after I have all CC and mods back in and it's working, if everything is fine, then no after patch for me.
